  1. BA..... Direction of troll can be huge due to E-W current.... if you have down speed, you'll know what's up...... if you don't..... pay attention to direction of troll and rpm when you're catching fish (and when you're not) and like the other's have said.... with cowbells/peanuts, fish dead dog slow..... 1.1 - 1.5..... good luck.
  2. WTG Jerry.....That's just great! Why didn't you talk about Kings, Cohos, Lakers, Steelies.....????? Anything but Browns! Prolly gave up the secret spot too!
  3. Fished with the 2 kids this morning..... Launched at about 6:15, and ran out to 400 fow looking for some thermal structure..... nada.... steady temp drop the whole way.... Ran back into 100 FOW off Lighthouse, and started trolling W. Plenty of lakers ...... 9 lakers and 1 small king in 90 - 105 fow.... Fished til' about noon.... nice day. King came 210 out on a wire diver w/ DW SS in toxic toad.
  4. Thanks Scott / Skip / Steve ...... She kind of saved the day. I was looking for a fishing partner for Sunday, and she volunteered! I think she's gonna twist my arm to fish the Friday pre-fish tourney at the Niagara Pro-AM... Maybe her older sister will join us too. I hear school's optional on that day if you have a good excuse . YT..... The screen on Sunday was amazing...... full of fish for miles and hours. If everything goes right, we'll make another attempt down there this weekend....
  5. Fished with my younger daughter this morning.... not fast and furious, but good company.... the graph was full of fish from 65 to 75 fow from 1 mile E of Wilson to 4 mi W. We took 2 kings on 2 hits..... white sd with green krinkle fly 140 out on a wire diver, and 60 down on a savant spook...... nice day, but not real productive for us......
  6. We travel to Wilson Tuscarora to fish all the time... In fact we're heading there tomorrow morning. All of us spend a considerable amount of money on boats, gas, tackle, electronics..... bla...bla....bla... and there's state taxes applied to all those purchases.....so let's make it difficult to enjoy the things we like to spend our money on...... doesn't make a lot of sense to me..... you can go right down the lake and name the State launches.... Youngstown, Wilson, Golden Hill, Oak Orchard (saved by the locals), Sandy, .... and eastward...... If the state were to close all those areas... in the long run, won't it hurt the income side (tax revenue)? Hell of a plan..... I agree with the votem'out philosophy! We may not have to worry about low water if there's no place open to launch from...... Question?....... is there a good privately owned launch site in Wilson for a 20 - 25'boat? Wilson Boatyard?
  7. Way to go Rob.....I've gotta learn to incorporate deeks into my hunting..... I've never used them, but there are times that I think they'd help me out......
  8. Thanks for the kind replies..... They're both good kids and they're my "boys"..... This morning #2 and I sat about 75 yards from a pair of gobbling birds..... they flew down and went away.. ... We chased and set up, chased and set up..... chased and set up..... and then had a pair of big boys come to about 60 yards. They gobbled to every sound we made, but wouldn't close..... I was certain one of them would commit.... and then a bird behind us alarmed , two deer crashed by at 15 yards and it was over.... once again, no gobbles late in the day..... last gobble about 9 AM.... big fun! Woods are very green..... and black flies are just starting to go to work.....
  9. Fished west of Wilson to the bar.... 50 - 120 FOW..... 6 Lakers, 1 Atlantic, 1 King..... We struggled to find the kings..... Only landed 1 small one, and lost one major on a wire diver rod. No spoon pattern was evident. Several different spoons took fish. Full size Savants took a few in alewife patterns, and several on SuperSlims in various colors.......Fish came from 32 to 50 down on the riggers, and out 85 to 105 on a wire diver rod. None on spinner/fly. Biggest laker was 14 lbs....Tough day for us....
  10. We worked 2 birds off the roost 1st thing, but with little interest, and things got pretty quiet at 7:30..... We never heard another gobble all morning. I'm sure 80+ degrees wasn't helping much......At 11:30..... 3 birds were purring back and forth about 100 yards out, and at 11:45 3 of these guys walked into a slate call, but only 2 made it out..... She made a nice 30 yard shot and tipped him over. The quote of the morning...."Man! I forgot how hard those shells kick!" It's her second bird..... Back at it again in the morning with daughter "#2". I do love this time of year.
  11. Does anyone know if the Wilson (Tuscarora State park) launch is open? Are there any good options in Wilson other than the park launch?
  12. http://www.usps.org/localusps/rochester/loran.htm Here's a link to lat / lon for just about anyplace on Lake Ontario you could ever want to go........ and probably a few places you wouldn't want to go
  13. I hadn't heard about your surgery....Don't hurry .... make sure you heal up properly.....there's plenty of time to fish ...... I don't know if I'll get back out again for a while...... this'll be Christie's last youth turkey season, so we'll be hunting this weekend.... but maybe she'll be done on Saturday ...... then the regular season kicks in....... Just too much to do this time of year.....
  14. 1st trip of the year. Launched about 1:45 with Joe B. (Reel Drag)... fished 'til 5:30.... 7 for 8 .... 1 Coho, 2 Steelhead, 1 Atlantic, and 3 Browns..... 8 - 12 FOW. FT Smithwicks did the most damage. Nice day.... a little "breezy"....
  15. My Fishhawk 840 experience is similar to TB's. I contacted their customer service for support..... "shure, we'll look at your 840. Just send it (display/x-ducer/probe) to us with $100 and we'll let you know if we can do anything with it". I've got a plan for what they can do with it. .... The X4 may be a great product, but after the 1st go round I won't purchase their products. My 840 ate batteries, was unreliable past 80 or 90 FOC, and had a display that would not display complete numbers on a hot dash in August. (The numbers became incomplete characters, missing "segments" in the display.)
  16. 40 lb male, but Not a salmon....... He came from my favorite spot.... 30 FOW in front of Jerry's place!
  17. Congratulations Paul ...... and relay the same to Christie. You'll need to buy side x side treestands, a couple new shotguns, the list goes on and on..... It's great! You'll have Dylan rolling around the deck in a walker at 1YO, so you gotta childproof the back of the boat too!
  18. Tonight while fishing out of Sandy, we caught a very small Juvi king....... like NK Mag size......It was much smaller than the "shakers" of the year. Maybe 1/3 their size. I was in such a hurry to get the little bugger back into the water that I didn't admire it much.... so I never looked at it's fins for any kinds of clips (or lack of clips). Was it a "natural" fish? Anybody else run into guys like this? I'm certain it was a king.......
  19. Rosie bellies tell part of the story! Let's hear the rest......
  20. Hey Paul .... No Pro-AM for us..... if we show up, it'll be for the Friday event. If I'm understanding you correctly, we'll need to sign up for that by the night before (Thursday night)? Last year we signed up at 6AM on Friday morning.......at the Slippery Sinker. BTW, Nice bird.......
  21. Rob, I fished in front Wednesday evening, and marked some fish in 80 - 100 FOW. We took 2 kings (26 and 28 lbs), one steelie, and lost 2 other fish. The fish were mostly stuck to the bottom, and cut bait (filleted herring) took the 2 kings out of 90 FOW, 107 down and 95 down...... the steelie took a yellow SD/ no see um fly out 270 on a "2 1/2 " wire diver. There were not a ton of marks, just enough to keep your interest. It was a the kind of picture that the meat usually works well on..... from 75 - 95 down, temps varied from 55F to 63F....... I probably won't be back out until Saturday PM...... weather permitting.
