  1. Nice Fish! What made you run to the 28? Cold Inside? We hope to be out in the morning.....and I'm hoping for better conditions than the weekend!
  2. It was one of those unforgettable days! Most action was between the 28 and 30 lines, NW of Olcott...... Riggers were parked between 35 and 50 most of the day.... diver hits came 135 - 150 on a 3 setting..... DW Gator, SS Coyote, and several others all were hot..... Biggest Steelies to about 12 lbs....Big Fun...
  3. Ouch!......sorry to hear about the expensive trip..... we ran to braddocks where there were decent temps, but still struggled..... 3 shaker kings..... we looked inside for a while and then wound up in 200, but really never turned a good fish.....
  4. Northstar Sportsmens Club offers one of the nicest facilities in Upstate New York for shooting clay targets in a 5-Stand format. 5-Stand is a clay target game similar to Sporting Clays, except that shooters are positioned at 5 permanent stations, and clay targets are thrown from automatic traps at 7 or 8 different locations in front of them, from all directions, angles and speeds. 5 targets are attempted at each station in a round, for a total of 25 targets. If there's enough interest from the picnic participants, I'd be happy to open the 5-Stand range at the picnic. Target cost is $6 or $7 per 25, plus supply your own ammo in 12 ga. or 20, shot size 7 1/2, 8, or 9........ IC chokes or tighter would be plenty for these targets...... The range would be opened after the weigh in was complete, and into the "socialization" and feeding period.... Of course, NO ALCOHOL consumption would be permitted prior to shooting...... If you're interested, reply here, or send me a PM and I'll post a "GO or NO GO" message next thursday based on the response..... Looking forward to meeting folks at the "shootout"!
  5. We fished 75 fow for Browns down to the lighthouse, and took one brown and 5 skips...... then slid out a little to 100 - 120 and fished to what I thought were kings...... we dropped one major on the surface after maybe a 10 minute battle, and then Joe B. landed one at 25lb 13 oz... Looks to me like the kings are starting to show up ...... 90 to 110 down.
  6. Coyote Ugly is "IN" ....... Hey Rebel....... Christie is expecting ice cream at the picnic!
  7. A little rough tonight, so we went W out of the port to about the middle of the park and trolled back E with the waves. Water is warm, warm, warm...... with 120 FOC temp varied from 70 F to 56 F depending on direction and speed....... fished 115 - 150, with most marks and bait in 115 - 130. took 3 fish on 6 hits, 2 shakers and 1 steelie. spoons (DW SS's )took the fish, but SD/flys took a couple of hits too...... nice night.....none of the guests turned green
  8. Gland to hear things worked out.... seems like they always do out of that port......Sandy is, without a doubt, the friendliestly place on the lake..... I can't tell you how many times other fishermen have checked on me and my "crew" before running in late in the evening........ It's a great feeling to know that you're on both ends of the safety net....
  9. In 225, we had 60F down 50, 55F down 60, 50F down 70........ Cold water came up as we came in, but maybe only by 10 feet or so......
  10. If reading that don't put a grin on your face and a twinkle in your eye, nothing will....... very cool.......
  11. Started fishing at about 5:00......East wind......Fished from Cowsucker back to the creek. Started in 225, worked out to 275, then back into 90 FOW off Newmans...... best bite seemed to be in 225 - 240...... 3 steelies landed, 2 lost, and 1 screamer lost....... Wire divers out 240, riggers at 60 - 80...... Nothing was real hot. Action seemed random .....Pulled lines at 7:50........Nice evening.
  12. hey Scott .... I fished with Kara on Saturday in my boat, and I think we landed 12 or 14 fish....... Sunday I fished with Joe and his B in L George, and it was about 20........ I can't remember the last time we had such good fishing out of sandy for so long a period of time...... We struggled to find the big kings though...... lost a couple, just couldn't keep them hooked up.. Couldn't find a brown over 10 lbs...... or a steelie over 12....... what a problem to have..... Big Fun.....
  13. Thanks for the report....... Did you happen to run a probe? If yes....... how deep was temp, and how were the currents? I'm considering taking a VayCayDay tomorrow if thing look good in the early morning.
  14. Sounds like you had a ball Steve, that's some great fishing...... graduation Saturday and a party today had control of my weekend, but hopefully we'll be chasing fish this week and into the holiday week too...... a buddy is in town today, and we planned on fishing tomorrow with his 10 YO..... but the SCA has scared me off the plan.... damn weatherman.....
  15. Like Yoda...... Wilson splits the difference. It's my favorite port on the lake.......Spring kings and lakers at the bar..... offshore steelhead fun in August.... what a place.....
  16. Thanks for the answers.... JCR ...... Your suggestion is what I was hoping for when asking about 16" rims......How is the offset measured?
  17. Need tires for my trailer..... The current tires are 8.75x16.5 LT....... .... Called GY..... don't have.... neither does the warehouse. Called a trailer shop...... got a confused response...... 16.5??? Seems the 16.5 is an odd size and with an "E" load range....... Anyone ever run into this before...... Sears has goodyear workhorse RIB 8.75 x 16.5 LT advertised on their website, but Goodyear is unaware....??? WTH? Whats RIB? Can I use 16" rims with the same bolt circle and a similar or greater load rated tire????
  18. Thanks for the report Scott ...... the water in the western end is warming up fast, so you'd think it'll be improving off the Oak and Sandy soon.....
  19. Great article today about LO Atlantics! It's wonderful to see them as a consistant part of the take. There was one weighed in at the the Niagara Pro-AM Cash Friday event that pushed 20 lbs real hard! The downside is that to read the article you have to stare at Jerry F. ......... almost puked in my coffee...... at least he wasn't wearing "THE HAT"
  20. Launched out of Wilson at about 5:45 started out in 75 FOW a little W. Fished 2 wire divers w/spinner/fly. 2 spinners / flys on 2 riggers rigger, and 2 spoons on the other 2 riggers..... took 2 shaker kings and one 6 lb steelie in there and headed out deeper for a different class of fish.... ran into a bad case of the dropsies, lost 4 fish in a row including one on a spinner/fly that broke us off after a 150 ft rip.... Then we doubled up on majors, one on W.diver / spinner / fly and one on a cut-bait rig....... Your's truely banged one in the head with the net and we lost that one...... Christie landed the other one.... a beautie king at 25+..... We landed one more 10 lb king on spin/fly...... Overall a great day. Lots of fun.... some excitement too...... We weighed in the big king at 25.03..... and that sat in 1st for big fish for a while..... Then Rebel showed up with one around 25 1/4..... and we watched our fish drop out of the money...... A great time though, and if we'd have landed the fish we had on, we'd have done pretty well! If, If, If......
  21. Had an older gentleman from work who hadn't been on the big pond since 1998.... Can you say "JONESIN"?....... so we targeted lakers and did about a dozen from Lighthouse to Sandy in 90 - 110....... We didn't mark a ton of lakers and we did mark several pods of what I thought to be silver fish(35 - 60 down)....although we never fished to them...... The younger daughter is getting to be quite xpert...... do this, change that.... try this..... holy chit!.... who trained this kid?
  22. BA..... Direction of troll can be huge due to E-W current.... if you have down speed, you'll know what's up...... if you don't..... pay attention to direction of troll and rpm when you're catching fish (and when you're not) and like the other's have said.... with cowbells/peanuts, fish dead dog slow..... 1.1 - 1.5..... good luck.
