  1. Time to remove the old and reload new line on my trolling reels. Where is the best place to purchase bulk spools (1500 or 3300 yds.) of braided line and does anyone have a specific line they recommend when using it for backing material? Thank you.
  2. Everyone, you should find a topic dated around 7/23/2015 - B & B fall fishing tournaments. It should have a PDF with the entry form. Yes the dates are September 12th and 13th. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. Nice fish guys, sounds like you had a good day. You got to love those pleasure boats. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜–😜 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. Slouiscar Started trolling myself about two years ago and I feel your pain. I went through a lot of the same learning curve that you are going through. One thing is for sure this site is great and the majority of the people on this site are really helpful and know what they're talking about. I also have used the videos from the fish doctor website that quality time is talking about. That knot works really well on all of my wire divers and it is the only knot I use. Another good website to look into is called the Great Lakes Angler Magazine. It is very similar to this site except it is just geared toward the Great Lakes. Between these two sites you can get a lot of good advice that will help speed up the learning curve. Just remember there is no dumb questions and before you know it things will get a little better. 5. Lavarock, Sorry it has been so long since I have gotten back to you but I have been very busy. Spoke with the person in charge of the Perch derby and here are the answers to your questions. The payout for the event will be based on the number of entries and there is no kids division. If you have any other questions or concerns please call the number at the tackle shop on the entry form. Thank you.
  6. Attached are two PDF documents for the Perch Tournament and B & B Fall Fishing Tournament on Cayuga Lake. The Perch derby is August 8th and 9th and the B & B Fall Fishing Tournament dates are September 12th and 13th. Please direct any questions or concerns to B & B bait shop located at Myers Point. Thank you for your support. Perch Derby Entry Form.pdf B & B Fall Trout and Bass Derby Entry Form.pdf
  7. Just starting to get more glow and super glow spoons, and I was wondering what people are using to charge these spoons with and how many times do you need to re-charge them before they weaken? Thank you for your help.

  9. Just starting to use lead core this year. Has anyone had any luck running 2, 3, or 4 color lead core off the Off-Shore in line boards? Being new I like the visual I get using these boards because the flag moves down when something is wrong or a fish hits the lure. I have been told that these boards will not work and I will need to change to the TX-44 orange walleye boards. However these boards do not have a moveable flag system like the Off-Shore boards. Has anyone ever tried to modify the TX-44 board to make it moveable like the Off-Shore boards? Thank you for your time.
  10. I am looking to install a bimini top on my 2004 Smoker Craft Pro Mag 168 Tiller. Last year it was just too hot out during the late morning and afternoon sun trolling on the Finger Lakes. Anyone out there have any suggestion on the type of top I should buy, height of the top 46†or 54†and how or where should I install it to not interfere with the fish ability of the boat? I currently have two Bert’s rod holders per side mounted in the back area of the boat that I use along with down riggers on both corners in the back. These items were put in these locations because it is a tiller model and for the most part I am fishing by myself. Any suggestion based on previous experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  11. If you only have one day to go to the show, which day would you go? Was thinking about going Friday because it would not be as crowded, however somewhat interested in the marketplace on Sunday. What do you think? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. Nick, Do you still have these items and do they track we'll? Ran in-line boards last year. First year trolling so I think I want to make the jump to boards only. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  14. Forgot to attached the photo. We will try again.
  15. Just started using Spin Doctors and trolling flies about a month ago and I must say “Why did I wait so longâ€. Attached is a photo of two types of trolling flies that I have been using. Last night I was looking over a couple of flies and I noticed that the leaders are starting to get a few rough spots in the leader materials and I think I need to replace them. The Dreamweaver Strong Fly shown to the left in the photo will be easy to replace because it is just a straight piece of fluorocarbon material to the treble hook however, the other fly (A-TOM-MIK) is connected to two hooks. Does anyone know if someone has done a video of how to tie the A-TOM-MIK rig so they are back to the original configuration or can someone explain it to me so I can fix these flies? Also, what is the benefit of the A-TOM-MIK fly rig with two hooks over the single treble hook used by the Dreamweaver Strong Fly? Both flies have worked very well for me just wondering why the difference and how to fix these leaders? Thank you for your time.
  16. Forgot to mention the dipsey setting was a zero. My thinking was that this setting would be very close to running a downrigger directly behind the boat. So yes the setup that I was running was two wire dipseys off one side set to 0 and the other one set to a 2. During the weekend when I was fishing with the boss I ran two braid dipseys off the other side set to a setting of 1 and the other one set to 3. Sorry I forgot to state that important fact.
  17. Question for all of you that have been doing this a lot longer than I have. I have been running wire dipsey for the last three weeks doing very well on the Finger Lake using both spoons and Spin Doctor/Fly combos. But for the last moth I cannot get a rigger to fire at any depth. Yesterday I had a dipsey firing with a doctor/fly combo every time I put it down to 85 feet. Down it goes and 5 to 10 minutes later fish on. So I decide to take the complete rig off the dipsey and put it on the rigger down to the same depth and the rigger would not fire. Why? Any ideas? I just don’t understand why the same rig at the same level as the dipsey and it won’t fire. I was also using a black dipsey thinking the silver one was attracting the fish in to the rig. Boat speed was the same as when using the dipsey. Downrigger weight are also black. Just don’t understand what would be different from one setup to another. I also tired letting the rigger down another 10 to 15 feet thinking the blow back in the rigger might be the problem. Still not firing. Any ideas would be appreciated. Still learning a lot.
  18. Good evening everyone, looking to get up on the big lake for salmon and trout in the next month or so. This area is the closest for me to have access to the big lake. I have a 16 foot tiller smoker-craft and this area over to Fairhaven is a place that I would like to learn for fishing in the fall and spring. Would anyone be willing to share some information about starting points and setups (downriggers, leadcore or dipsey). I have spent the last two years learning to fish my home waters on the Finger Lakes and still have a long way to go. I am willing to pay my dues and learn this area but I am somewhat concerned about how far out you have to go to find fish this time of year using a small boat. Safety – I love to fish but no fish is worth losing your life. Any help with starting points, how far out, what to use, what winds to look out for or winds that are favorable and time of year would be greatly appreciated.

  20. Anyone got any input on running slide divers on wire dipsies rods? I have been running wire dipsy this year for the first time using the original Lure Jensen dipsy divers and now I want to give the Slide Diver Lite Bite a try. So how do you setup these divers to run with wire? Thank you for your help.
  21. Made a quick trip yesterday morning to try fishing the AES area on Cayuga Lake. Launched at Myers Point and headed north at 7:30. Fished the area in front of AES working from 80 to 200 FOW. Not much for bait in the area but I did pick up 5 Atlantics all around 20 – 23 inches long. Three of the fish were on dipsies set on setting 3 either 150 or 175 out. The other two fish were on downriggers set 50 feet down. One fish had a lamprey on it and did have a few fleas on the rigs once in a while. All fish caught on UV Michigan Stinger spoons running at 2.2 to 2.6 and all fish released to fight another day. Wayne
  22. Yes you are correct. My bad i meant to say fixed sliders sorry everyone. Still trying to learn everything and trying to keep it all straight. Wayne
  23. Well, made my first trip to Deans Cover. A slow start to what was a beautiful morning after the fog cleared. I only had about three and half hours of fishing time and lost probably a good hour working close to shore because I was new to the area and the fog was thick. After the fog cleared I moved out to 60 - 80 FOW. Setup was two riggers each with stacker running Michigan Stingers. Ran spoons back 25 feet off the ball and all stackers were 5 feet long, 10 feet above the bottom spoon that was off the ball. Marked a lot of fish from 20 to 50 feet down and also marked a lot of bait from top to bottom both north and south of the launch area. Caught my first three salmon all off the stackers using a UV Gator spoon. Why did all of the fish come of the stacker? This is my first time using stackers. After the third fish, I switched the spoons on the stacker. The UV Gator went on the ball and I moved the UV Black Tuxedo up on the stacker. Down we go to the same depth, 50 at the ball and around 40 on the stacker. It was not 10 minutes and the stacker goes off for fish number four. Again why only the stacker? With only about 30 minutes left before I needed to head back in, I ran out a dipsey with a UV Purple Tuxedo on setting 3, 85 feet out and caught one more salmon before heading in for the day. All and all a good morning with not a lot of fish but I did get to try something new using the stackers and I did spend some time working a third rod using Torpedo Divers (Snapper and Shark). Also before I forget no fleas yet even with the surface water temperature of 66 to 68 deg. If anyone has an idea about my above stacker question, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you. Wayne
  24. I am looking to get some information on fishing Seneca Lake this Friday. I have been trolling Cayuga Lake hard for the last three weeks and I am not doing very well. It is probably something I am doing but I am so frustrated that I need to try something different. I usually fly fish the south end around the dish charge at clute park for salmon and browns in the early spring but have never been trolling on the lake before. My plan is to use the same program that I used in the spring on Cayuga Lake. In-Line boards with sticks and spoons off the riggers. I am assuming the water is a little cooler then Cayuga and the fish should be in the 10 to 30 FOW. I am thinking about going out of Lodi Point and fishing the north and south of the point around the launch area. Or should I launch down on the south end of the lake and fish that area? This is going to be one of those pay your dues type trips which I don’t mind doing I just would like some help getting started. Thanks in advance for all your help. Fishbowl836
  25. Can you use a Spro swivel to connect braid and mono? I am using a size 10 swivel. I know it will go through the guides on the rod but my concern is having the swivel on the reel. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
