  1. It's about time some salmon are being caught. Great Job!! We have been catching small salmon and some nice steelhead in 400-500 foot of water. We went for lake trout today after working out deep earlier. We only took one small salmon out deep but took some really nice lake trout in close. The biggest were 15lbs 7oz and 23 lbs. We took 8 and they were all over 12 libs.
  2. Nice report! Glad you guys had fun and caught some nice fish.
  3. Very Nice fish and report! Things have been slow over this way except for lakers. We took 2 17lb plus fish last weekend and are on the board for now. Good Luck!
  4. We run 3 different dipsey rods with slide divers except on the wire rigs. We run 10' ugly stick, 9' 6" heartland, and 10' Okuma. If you don't mind the 10' length I recommend the ugly stick. I can't tell you what it is but that rod takes 3 times more fish than are other setups. We also experimented with the same exact lure sets. I realize there are other factors but it's very strange. If you fly solo often you may want to look at a shorter rod. However, you can muscle the fish a lot with the ugly stick so you have more control. We took a 36.5 lb king on it last year.
  5. Great report! It was a really good year. Have a great fall and stay safe.
  6. Bruce, That would be Mr. N. As many people know he has been all over the world hunting and fishing. A great guy with a lot of experience. I slightly missed 2 details on the slide divers. We had been running them anywhere from 50 - 90' behind the diver all year and that setup was our hottest this year. We had about 240' of dacron out which gets about 80 down on 2.5 setting. That day we decided to slow eveything down to about 1.6 downspeed. That allowed us to run for lakers on one side and slider / flashers running really slow for salmon on the upside. I guess that worked for that day. I would highly suggest that people run them - we even put the wire rig away and now run 2 sliders instead. We took a lot of big browns and bows on this setup all year. My son placed 5th in the summer derby catching a big bow on a NK chicken wing. Yep, we still us those old time lures that you guys turned me onto 10 years ago. We also placed 6th in lake trout. Here are some other pics of those fish. I hope we all appreciate living around a world class fishery! Enjoy. Rich
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: 4 hrs Weather/Temp: nice Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1 Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: NK's, Jensen flaher, flies Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 75-135 Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== It was probably our last trip of the season. Had a friend of mine out for the third time this fall and was hoping to get a salmon over 20lbs. We had done well the past 2 trips with 15 plus fish caught each trip but no mature salmon. We started fishing inside (75-85) and took a couple of browns. We hooked up with 2 teens age salmon and lost them. We decided to head outside 100-130 and saw some good marks about 80 down with some good temp. We slowed things down and went for lakers off the bottom. We ran 2 slide divers with small flasher / flies about 50' back which have been our best sets this year. We caught 3 lakers one was 11lbs. We made a turn and the slider fired and I handed the rod to my friend. We definately had a mid 20's mature salmon on. It made 2 runs and burnt 450 foot off the reel. All of a sudden the down rod fires on the other side and it was a 11lb laker. I finally netted the fish while trying to drive the boat. Wew fire drill over. We kept circling the big salmon and it felt like the fish was getting bigger and bigger the closer it got. Finally, after about 25 minutes the fish was about 20 feet from the boat and now it looked at least 30lbs. It kept growing and growing. We finally netted the fish on the first attempt and it looked even bigger. Before we had the fish weighted he guessed 32 and I guessed 33.5 lbs. The final weight was 36lbs 9 onces. WOW. Here is a pic of my friend holding the fish. Nice Job! Rich
  8. We typically replace all the hooks with steel ones. I don't trust those hooks with big fish expecially with sliders and wire sets. We have lost a lot of really good fish and tackle this year. We had cheeter swivels blow up, line bit off above the lures, nicks in the line (poor maint), big fish just coming off,, The fishing has been great. Fall derby is just around the corner. Good Luck and be Safe!
  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Lined-Out ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/3 Time on Water: 4 hours Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: SW Waves: < 1ft Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 22 Total Boated: 18 Species Breakdown: Brown Trout Hot Lure: NK monkey puke, NK 42nd spoon, Last Strike yellow / orange and purple tape Trolling Speed: 2.2 - 2.4 Down Speed: getting fixed Boat Depth: 95 - 105 Lure Depth: 80 - 85 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I fished with my youngest son but we almost decided not to go. However, we had a feeling that it could possibly be a great fishing day with the weather fronts lurking. We love to fish on those type of days and done well in the past. We decided to target brown trout and were on the water by about 6:45am. The fishing was great! We hammered the brown trout and had 20 knock offs and boated 18 fish. We had a several doubles. The bite was steady all morning but had to quit fishing at 11am. We probably caught 7 fish between 7 - 9 lbs and took 2 fish that were 11lbs and 13lbs. Many of the larger fish were caught on slide divers - 70' back from diver and about 213' of braided line out from the diver. The 2 biggest fish were caught on the same lure (last strike) which we nicknamed grampa's juice. This was one of several lures that were given to us by my mother in-law when my father in-law passed away. We love to run them and think of him often. Good luck and be safe. Rich
  10. Fished with my wife on 8/27 from 12 noon - 3pm and we caught 15 lake trout. Two of them made the derby board and are currently in 13th and 15th place. This was my third trip fishing with her in the derby and we got on the board 2 out of 3 trips. I think she needs to go more often.
  11. Fished off Rochester Friday morning and caught a 12.2 lb brown trout. It was my first derby fishing trip ever with my wife. I finally convinced her to fish with me in the derby. We fished for about 2 hours and took 5 brown trout. The 12.2 lb was the first fish taken on an NK Frog after trolling for about 20 minutes. It was a nice way to start the derby. It's currently in 11th place and probably will not last on the board. We also fished on Saturday for 3 hours and caught 2 kings and 2 browns. Sunday fishing inside went very well. We went 10 for 16 with 7 browns and 3 bows. NK 42nd spoon and frog worked well. My down speed and temp unit is not worknig so things were slightly uncomforable but worked out ok.
  12. Bob, I met you this past weekend at Gander Mountain. I was the person with Moor Sub-troll issues. I think the probe may have issues because it took on some water. However, I want to make 100% sure so was wondering if you could try it on yours? I am only down the road from your dock. Thanks, Rich (cell) 944-8640
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Lined Out ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 9/3 Time on Water: 4 hours Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1.5'-2' Surface Temp: 71 Location: East of ibay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): We took a friend fishing who has not been on the big lake in quite a few years. Fished from 7:30am-11:30am. We had 18 knock-offs and boated 12 fish (10 browns - 2 salmon). Largest browns were around 7.5lbs and salmon were around 10lbs. We lost a 25 plus salmon that tripped out 250+ feet of line out on the first run. Unfortunately, we probably had a bad spot on the line from catching so many fish this week. My bad for not keeping the equipment in good shape. All fish were caught in 70' - 88' of water - riggers were 69' - 78' down. DownTemp was terrible - 70 degrees but our graph was covered with bait fish and fish!! Seems to be temp does not matter much at this time of year after the lake turned last week. Thanks Mike!! We had several amazing trips this week which will stay in our memories for a long time. We took 3 different people fishing that don't really get a chance to fish on the big lake. Two of them had never even been out on the big lake. We set a goal 3 years ago, to take 3 people fishing on the big lake that have never been. It's a wonderful feeling to share these experiences with people who don't get a chance to do what we take for granted. I hope that others are or will consider doing the same. Enjoy the remainder of the season and be safe.
  14. Started fishing about 9am in about 80 - 110 and took 2 bows (about 8 lbs) and 1 laker (9 lb). Bows can off on 42 lure free slide cheater about 30 down and laker came off NK purple thunder at 75. temp was about 70 down but no kings. Only have down speed / temp and gps - no graph. For some reason, my X19 lowerance does not graph deeper than 30 feet. Also, depth cursor starts flashing. Works great until it gets deeper than 30 feet then depth cursor starts flashing and no bottom. Graph has worked great for 3 years. I adjusted tranducer (50/200) angle several times and tested w/o boat running but same results. I suspect the tranducer is shot but not sure if it's the graph. Any HELP would be great. If anyone runs an X19 and would be willing to take my graph and test that would be GREAT! Appreciate any insight. I may try and replace tranducer but did not want to waste $150 if graph is fautly. Thanks
