  1. At least entertain us and say that you caught 30 salmon off of it last week end!
  2. Where the hooks that straightened on Howie Flies?
  3. I read somewhere that the line might be getting caught at the bottom of the treble hook. The fish is hooked and then turns. The line gets caught and pinches off. A solution was to place a drop of epoxy where the three hooks come together. Just a thought.
  4. I have used spiderwire for the past three seasons and love it. A few times a year I retie the snap swivel but still have the same two swivels I started with. I have no complaints.
  5. Here is a link to the article: http://www.in-fisherman.com/content/dep ... rier-kings
  6. Gray Fox- There was an interesting article in In-Fisherman last year about "deep" salmon, and how much they would move in the water column during a given period. I looked for the article but could not find it. I do remember being amazed at what I read but can't remember the exact numbers. Anyways they talked about salmon in the great lakes that were over 200 feet down and would come up and move back down. They weren't talking about 10 or 20 feet they mentioned fish moving up 100 feet and then back down in a matter of minutes. I wish I could find the article, if any one does please let me know. I practice mostly catch and release, last year I believe I kept four salmon and fished at least 25 days for them. I love catching them and I love seeing them swim away. The next generation will have enough problems, I don't want to see lack of salmon on the list. Charter Captains- Thank you for all of the information that you have given me over the past two years. I know that I have gotten better at this game because of this website and all of the useful information. People pay you hard earned money to go out and consistently catch fish and EAT FISH! It isn't an easy job. I have nothing against you filling boxes for your clients and belief if you didn't, you would be searching for a different job. One last thought: I heard and belief that there is natural reproduction happening on the lake(Kings). I believe it is on the Salmon and Credit. What about the other tributaries that are too warm for reproduction. I fish 4 and 12 mile creek ( small streams that get above 80 degrees in the summer) and have been ridiculed for keeping fish on these streams. Other fisherman have said that I am "hurting the fishery", because these fish will not be able to reproduce. I thought that anything that is born in these streams will die because of the high temps and lack of oxygen. What is the difference if I catch that fish in the stream or in the lake when they are staging? Just looking for opinions and information.

  8. Musky, Hope you make a speedy recovery and everything is OK. Best of luck, our thoughts and prayers are with you!
  9. But just the tip right Musky?
  10. Bill, come down to the south side of the lake. You won't have any problem finding fish or fishermen willing to talk about it! The Bar, Wilson and Olcott aren't that far away and there are plenty of salmon.
  11. I'm looking for parts for older Penn 209's I have good gears just broken side plates. If anyone has any that they would like to get rid of give me a call, 880-9681. Will trade for beer, lures and when all else fails cash.
  12. The pike love stickbaits, spoons and spinnerbaits. Good luck.
  13. If you don't have a line counter one trick is to measure the amount of line that comes off of the reel with one pass of the levelwind. Each reel is different but I believe it is usually around 10 feet. Once you know how much line is released with each pass it is easier to determine how much is out and to be able to repeated it. If you want 100 feet it is about ten passes. 150 about 15 passes. Hope it helps.
  14. Usually, I start 100 back and 100 out but I will go as far as 200. Using rapalas, 7s and 9s, I usually put a large split shot about 3-4 feet above the lure and this will put me about 8-9 feet down. This is just a starting point. Could have been temp, clarity, lure color, depth or speed. Tons of variables. Good luck and keep trying!
  15. There still there! I know they were catching them on kwiwfish and spoons.
  16. Great story and sounded like a great day. Anytime you come back with everything you left with, and catch a fish is a success! Auto Pilots do have a break in period. Good luck with the new boat.
  17. Fished 5-8 PM, east of the red can, 130-200 fow, surface temp from 49.5-51 F. Wind 15-20 out of the west. Ended the day 4 for 10 and lost 2 right at the back of the boat all fish between 8 and 15 lbs. Fish came off of the downriggers, and dipseys I believe they were split 5 and 5. Red coyote with green atomik fly and Mt. Dew. Spindoctor with Atomik No-See-Um off the riggers 45 down. Purple frog and Watermelon NKs off the dipseys 105-135 back on a 2.5 setting. Trolled with the wind today and saved a little gas.
  18. Order them right from Cannon. I just order two of them and they cost me $7 a piece. If these are the ones you need the part number is right below it. Part# 2207002 The phone number is: 800-227-6433.
  19. Fished east of the red can, 160-230 fow, surface temp from 49.5-53.5. Barely any wind, shockingly. Finished the day 4 for 7. Three off of the downriggers 60’ down with a red coyote flasher and a green atomik fly. Fourth on an orange crush NK, #3 setting 150 feet back. First fish on before we were able to get all of the rods in the water. Took a friend out for the first time on the lake and had a great time. He dropped the first three then got the hang of it. Can’t wait to do it again.
  20. Dave, welcome home and thanks for everything. If your ever in WNY and want to fish the bar, drop me a line.
  21. Is their an inline fuel filter? Is there a fuel filter at the end of the fuel line that connects to the engine. I know there can be one on carbs but I don't know about fuel injection. Something quick and easy to check.
