  1. Get your license on the way to Youngstown. There isn't anywhere in town to get one on a Saturday. Stop at Wal-Mart in Niagara Falls, it is the only place I know you can get one on a Friday night. There is a free public launch in Youngstown, if you come in on route 93 ( Youngstown - Lockport Rd) that will take you directly to the launch. If you have any problems just ask the people where you are staying. They will know exactly where it is at. Youngstown is pretty small. Enjoy.
  2. Nice job! Hope to make it out Wed. afternoon.
  3. I'd try them! Blues and greens and my favorites. Check out A-Tom-Mik's website, you might get some good ideas for color combinations.
  4. Just Fishin, it's Tuscarora State Park, never had a problem with parking either.
  5. Nice meeting you Alan. Hopefully, the water is a little better next weekend.
  6. Trolled in front of Four Mile creek from 8:00-3:00. Caught 1-5-6lb King, 3-14-15" Atlantics, 1-6lb Steelhead, and my first smallmouth of the year. I left the camera at home so no pics. All fish caught on stickbaits, firetigers, oranges, chartruse trolling east. 8-12 fow, temp around 44 degrees. Trying to catch some brown trout and not one. Lost one fish at the end that was a tank. Ripped of the 10lb test and then snapped it, wish we could have gotten a look at it. I have read in some of the other posts that Canada is stocking the Atlantics, up until this year I have never caught one and I think I have caught 6 or 7 already. How many of these did they put in? How big will they get? Every time I catch one I am very careful with them and release them immediately. Also I caught one heck of a sunburn! Six days until it begins.
  7. Check out the temp of the water coming out of the river: http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/ontario/o11.html
  8. The strong winds out of the west over the past few days turned up Erie and left us with MUD. I'll be trying for browns tomorrow then maybe out to the bar.
  9. Thanks for the info eric. I think I might make it down for the opener if not soon after. Looking forward to your post.
  10. I believe that it is part#L0313202 here are a few more pictures with measurements, hope they help. They are in order from the boat to the bottom of the ladder. Sorry the pictures aren't the best, they'd be better if I had black carpet!
  11. Chad, very user friendly and well designed. Fat Nancy's, I live to far away! Ever think of a store in Niagara County?
  12. Jimski, not to sound like a smart arse, but if you do comply what rights does it give you. If I comply and it means that another vessel can't come within a certain distance this may be something worth looking in to. Just curious.
  13. Wait until they have their first race (or regatta how ever it is spelled) and drive right on the course and stop your boat. This technique works well if you have six or seven other boats with you. They don't respect our hobbies why on earth should we respect theirs! Our local yacht club puts race buoys out, they are about six feet tall and two feet in diameter. The first time I was out after dark I almost hit one going about 20. You think they would put a light or reflective tape on it? Not a chance. The friend that was with me talked me out of cutting it free.
  14. Swap coils and and see if the problem goes to the top cylinder. If it does it's the coil.
  15. Bob, thanks for the info. I've been doing quite a bit of research and now I can't wait to get down there. Let me know how you make out and thanks again.
  16. I thought about going out on Sunday, I drove down to the lake to see if it would be manageable and the white caps sent me home. This weekend.
  17. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  18. I'd try for the browns, I haven't heard of anyone catching any salmon yet on the bar.
  19. I don't think I will be going to Gander Mountain anytime soon. I bought two new to me downriggers and the base from my old riggers are different then the new ones. No big deal, I just called around and found that Gander had "exactly what I needed". $32.99 a piece. With the price I paid for the riggers, this is still going to be a great deal. I drive the 40 minutes to Gander and they do not have"exactly what I need". The same thing happened to me last summer, I called looking for a certain rod, gave them the model the number. They said they had it. I drove up there to find no rod. The person in the fishing department then tells me that they most have just sold it. Thanks! Just another case of someone saying" O yeah we have that", with out ever checking. what do they care, it's not there business. I usually try and go to the independent guys but sometimes they do not have certain items, like bases for downriggers. Next time, I'll just have them order it for me. In the end I called Cannon and they ordered the bases for me $7.00 a piece and they should be here any day.
  20. I have tried checking the surface temp of the lake a few times and the image form 4/5/09 seems to be the only map I can access. I tried the link from this site and also went to coastwatch and had the same problem. Is it just me or are other people having the same problem?
  21. Trolled in front of four mile creek today from 12:00-3:00. Water temp was between 37.4 and 39.5, the warmest water was about 1/2 mile east of 4 mile. The wind was out of the east and blowing pretty good. Lost one and ended up with 2 browns and 1 small coho. Rapalas caught all three. Launched out of the fort and there was NO ice in the river. Tomorrow, I might try out of Wilson, I planned on heading out there today but somehow I ended up at the fort.
