Reel Doc and Traveling man joined me for some fun fishing/ shakedown mission with the big Crestliner today. Fished a lil East in 90 -100 fow with riggers at 50, 60 n 70 down. Slide divers down 35-45 . 8 and 10 colors w/ spoons off big boards and a 300’ copper w/ jointed rapala down the chute. Mostly spoons on other stuff + a ‘joelagreca’meat rig/flasher combo on 1 rigger.Surface speed: 2.5-3.1. All presentations took fish. Mostly kings today with a few pushing into the 20#s . Nice day on the water with old friends

Worked East of Port in 70-90 FOW. Ran riggers 60-30 down , 10 color & 7 color off big boards, Slide divers down 30-45’. Spoons were on all lines. Varied surface speed from 1.7-3.0. All presentations took fish. The 3 guys boxed out with a nice mix of Kings and Lakers.

I drifted the river some Thursday, especially before and then out past the coast guard station. Marked some fish but not much bait. Continued my search to the green can and then on out to the red can marking a few fish but no bait. Caught 1 laker drifting emeralds.

You betcha. Not out today (Saturday) but have a trip tomorrow and will post a quick summary.

Went way west today in search of kings . I was convinced that the suspended fish were kings but came to realize that most were lakers. Worked 70 - 120 fow . Found very active lakers in 70 fow from 65 to 30 Down on spoons behind riggers, core and slidedivers

I usually consider a bulk of the fish coming on junk lines to be an indication that the fish mood was negative. Stomach contents: 1/2 full of partially digested smelt,emeralds, alewives

Worked most of the water column from 50-80 Fow with spoons on 7 and 10 colors off big boards, slide diver and riggers . Ran FF on wire diver and a 4 color stick down the chute. Varied speed from 1.8 to 2.6 . Took 1 laker on 10 color, 2 on slide diver , 1 on rigger. Marked no bait. Only marked 3 suspended fish , most were closely associated with bottom

This started as a kayak idea and I’m gonna see if it proves out on my more ‘dedicated’ trolling vessels. Last fall I deployed a TX-44 with a spool of 50lb Dacron with a 300’ copper clipped in the rear release ( upgraded a little) and let it out . I was not successful in getting a strike but the idea proved quite doable and I think I’ll repeat my efforts on one of the fishing vessels at my disposal. Anybody else try this ?

Spoons, they didn’t seem very picky. Glow frog and Bloody nose was what I put on to start and just left em on.

Gave the gin clear shallows a couple of empty passes with the boards and shallow riggers and then went out to see what the Lakers were up to. Found em pretty quick in 60 fow on riggers at 55 and 40 at 2.0 gps

Got ass handed to me today . Ran west in gin clear water in a freshening East wind after the curl of the creek dissipated. Temps 43 -46. Popped a random Atlantic on an inside blk silver jointed , riggers with spoons were zip. Ran 1.6 to 2.3 gps. My home is supposed to be Olcott now so we’ll see what’s happening there tomorrow for a first go but not really excited bout Lakers

For Charter boats, the Coast Guard requires that you have the traditional orange lifejackets that keeps an unconcious person's head above water and it has to have the reflective material strips and an automatically activated flashing beacon.

I realize I'm sorta in a poverty stricken class by myself but personally I feel like my money needs to be working for me so I have always invested it instead of having it tied up in a 50K+ fishing boat or worse paying gobs of interest on a boat loan that looks like a mortgage. It's true buying a used boat is a pain in the ass but seriously; you cant even get a boat that is as well built as they were 20 years ago. My advice: Wait untill late summer/fall and thent ry and find a solid used 20-22" aluminum deep v outboard. That kind of boat will work for anything, tows easy & trolls cheap. Fishing is supposed to be fun and if its too rough for that kind of boat , do you really wanna be out there? So IMHO: Put your $ towards your retirement and enjoy more time fishing...

Yep, got 3 of those for customers who want to wear one. Still have to have the coast guard approved units onboard but bought the inflatables to be accommodating
