  1. Sweet fish but I would have to agree. Kinda just quit spring brown fishing there 10 years ago and went to Ontario.
  2. Just remember to put a bead in front of the swivel that goes to your leader so when the diver slides down it has something to bump into that's not a knot!
  3. Some days you eat the bear and somedays the bear eats you. I might actually be able to get fishin next Weekend
  4. We fish chunk and live herring too but it's typically far less predictable.
  5. Not actually all that difficult to troll for them around Kingston. Pretty essential to have downspeed so you can match speed going down and upstream and deal with different tidal flows. Big Rapalas in Hot Steel and similar color patterns down roughly halfway in the water column. Go out on outgoing tide When you see a pile of boats and they are going back n forth- you found the fish. Slack tide not much is happening
  6. Unfortunately, as of a couple weeks ago, the Auroralite's folks were unable to fill any orders for the custom Stingers
  7. The traditional wisdom is that in the 'summer' browns will be where the thermocline hits the bottom. June isn't typically a month when the thermocline has set up but the browns still relate to structure more than some of the other species. They like 55 degree water and if there is a lot of it then as others have pointed out they can be spread around pretty good. The Alewives spawning in shallow water in late spring/early summer will certainly attract browns and others species but when the bait is thick it can sometimes be tough to find a good bite .
  8. Tony did a bunch of work for me years ago but I thought he retired?
  9. I would agree. spend the $ on a couple wire diver rigs and hold off on a planer system until next year. Bigger bang for the buck and if you want to stretch out you can always run a junk rod down the chute or off an inline or 2 if you get feeling like you want to up your game
  10. A properly tuned mercruiser setup with a clean carb should be able to get you near walleye speed if the motor isn't too big. If the that doesn't work 1 or 2 Amish Outfitter trolling bags are your best option depending on the size of your boat.
  11. What in God's name do Lakers have to do with Coronavirus? Can't we have a discussion with out it turning into some kind of idiotic tea party forum?
  12. I was starting to say to myself " What the heck is going on here"?
  13. Yeah Frank, I'm afraid I got complacent about some of my short cores. The 2 color that broke on the king held up Ok on 2 good browns but let's face it that's just not the same thing. I have a 2 spool lead box on my shelf, have to make time to do the 2,4 and 5 that I left languishing.
  14. Had a spring King break off the lead core yesterday at the Oak on a 2 color while fishing for Browns yesterday. Hard to say exactly how far into the first color (without effort and conjecture I'm not going to expend)I'm not sure but looked faded for sure. That particular core setup is 13 years old. haven't given a whole lot of thought to changing out lead core line but perhaps I should? Thoughts/ personal experiences appreciated. Thanks
  15. Left County launch at around 9:00 am. Headed west in 10' with stix off the boards and a shallow rigger w/ a copper backed reg Stinger spoon. Water was milky and roiled up and 49 degrees. I had nothing going on for over an hour so I turned and headed east and pulled the rigger and tossed out a 2 color with a copper back scorpion spoon. As I approached the break wall I was looking out the back and saw a large spring king launch out of the water and could hear the 2 color rod burning drag. Fish took a lotta line and eventually broke the core which is aged and needs replacing in a perfect world. I went east for a while still in the shallows changing stix and spoons on a shallow rigger and tying a new leader on the core. Feeling the need to turn this day around I turned and headed west but began trolling out in 25 clear fow with just riggers and a 2 color. After passing the break wall heading west the new program began paying dividends and I boated numerous hefty browns on all 3 presentations down 7', 17', and approx. 10', all on copper back scorpions. Feeling vindicated I hauled the lil boat out and headed to L & M for a much needed trailer swap. Best speed seemed like 2.4 gps.
  16. I was planning to use the county launch at the Oak on Sunday. I realize it's blowin to beat hell today but if anybody has any first hand info on status of the launch please let me know, thanks
  17. I'm reasonably sure leadcore undulates considerably more than copper. That being said I'm pretty sure it has a different sonic signature as well.
  18. Oh well, I'll throw this out there anyway. I've had numerous HDS units and really like them. My present setup is 12" HDS linked to a high end high watt transom mount transducer, with thru hull like performance. The 12" HDS is also linked to the Lowrance autopilot. A 2nd 9' HDS unit is linked to the Lowrance Broadband Radar. Pretty happy with the whole system and I would argue that you do want to think about where you want to end up when you get the first building blocks instead of reinventing the wheel a couple of times on your way
  19. You make some interesting points. I myself have a 25' and a 16 1/2'. If the fish are hot the 2 rigger deal in a small boat isn't a bad way to go for sure. Problem is: You don't know that when you start. Personally when I'm fishing alone in my lil boat I like to run a rigger with a fixed or sliding cheater, a dipsy, and a junk line off the big boards right off the bat and vary depth as much as possible. This way I can get a read on fish mood and attempt to hone in on best approach. If all the lines take fish then I switch to what's easy to run and life is good. There are those days though when you all you can get to go and only once in a while is one setup with a specific spoon and although it's exasperating , if I start trying to figure out things right away I might manage a one man box and good eats by finding that one thing and working it to death from 7:00 am to Noon. Anyway that's my 2 cents.
