  1. 2 friends of mine trolled Saturday from 8-12 with wallydivers, dipsey / spoons, jigged with worms, casted everything in their boxes... nothing!
  2. Have you ever seen a nose pointer towing a boat? Curious. Thats why I usually try to launch at the free lot in the south end. I don't think I'm the only one who will agree with the following statements: 1. I always catch something when I'm on the boat, even if I don't get any bites! 2. Fishing is 1/3 sport, 1/3 outdoors, and 1/3 getting buzzed without anyone nagging In all honesty though, I'm pretty good at sobering up before I hit the dock.
  3. in Eel Bay, along grindstone there is a ridge that I've seen and heard of people trolling. A month ago, that marker near canoe point was HOT!!! for perch. Find 20ft of water on the SW of the marker, and use minnows on the bottom. I'm only up there for a week out of the year, and usually pressured to do other things that waste valuable fishing time so I usually have a minnow down, and cast larger stickbaits.
  4. Just $850 takes it! Still not low enough, make an offer or a trade! The motor runs absolutely perfect! Comes with controls, gas tank, and battery. Pics and full description: http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... php?t=6838
  5. I forgot to wrap this up... Hank (L&M) in Port Bay replaced the water pump, impeller, and reverse gear while he was in there. Motor's running perfect and cool, and I can't say enough good things about him! He got to work on it the next day and I picked it up on my way to the Islands! The electrical issue came back while I was on vacation, and so i replaced the starter sellinoid when i got back to Rochester. Now it starts up perfectly too! Thanks again Hank!
  6. I caught a 38" monster at the opening of the rift where it just starts to get narrow. I've heard of people (Look up Gene's post about the islands) trolling for them in the Swiftwater channel around Picton island at Eel Bay and along the shoal near Grindstone. I've hooked them in the Narrows too, at the north end of Murray right where it enters Eel Bay. one other spot is between the Gull islands in the middle of the bay too. Look for shallow weedlines that drop off, and run deep divers along there and thru the open pools between the tall grass. Steel leaders are key I've found. I prefer the 3" black ones with a barrell swivel. Give a good report! I was there in July and it rained 8 out of 10 days... saw nothing with teeth :x
  7. Last time I pulled the boat out there it was 1:30am, and as i was packing down the boat, 2 Monroe County cars pulled in the lot. They sat there for 5 minutes or so talking, then 1 took off, and the other sheriff drove up and asked us how the fishin was! My main concern at that launch is a transom full of empties and the boats with flashers that hover around the mouth Marge's is the best kept secret as they say. Thats one advantage to parking there too... the celebratory shot at the end of catching fish all day... and you can go there in cammo or a soaking wet bathing suit and nobody treats you any different! I wasn't aware they had a closing hour?
  8. from 590, get off at empire blvd and head east. Turn left onto Orchard Park Blvd. Its the last left before the hill down, 1 road past the light at the park i think. Anyways, once you make the turn its a straight drive past a dozen or so houses, then down the hill through the woods. At the bottom is the parking lot. The best place to launch from that lot is to the far right as you look out to the bay (where the red car is in the google link). Be aware of the drainage ditch and the few rocks around there on the shore. Also, its gravel for only about 5-10 ft. out, then it drops to about 3 ft. of water and muddy bottom. Once you know the place, its really easy. Good luck!
  9. Any luck? The thunder kept me off the O, so we slammed some bass in I-Bay. Still got caught in a ferocious down pore Sat. night, but we were close enough to the launch to avoid the lightning. Saw a wicked light show though! Biggest was a 3lb. largey caught on a Berkely rubber crayfish near the gun club.
  10. Let us know how you do. I've been out a couple of times without any luck. I've always heard the Glenn Edith in 20ft+ water, but I've never caught one there, but have had a few pike in the boat. Only Walleye I've seen in IBay was casting a chartreuse bomber off the Helds cove point at dusk. I usually launch at the gravel lot, on the south west side. Its free, well lit, and away from the mainstream traffic. Not alot of water, but if you have a smaller boat it isn't a problem.
  11. Whats she have on her hands? I need to get my brother-in-law a pair of those! Nice fish! I need to make my way over there. My wife wants to travel from Rochester, to Cleveland, to Toledo where she's from, and back home to Rochester. I'll sneak Barcelona on the itinerary! Is there a good B&B near a marina near there?
  12. Glad to hear you put some in the boat. Its supposed to be rainy and colder this weekend which means 2 things that equal fishing time for me! Too wet to work in the yard and too cold to bring the family to the beach...
  13. Nice slob! I'll be there this weekend. I've found that a good way to avoid the goblins is to use a 12-18" line on your sinker to suspend your bait off the bottom. It also showed an increase in smallie and perch hits. Anyone catching them at the hump in front of Long Pond? I'm sure I'll head there if its slow at the shoals. Last year in early August we caught a ton of smallies using softshells.
  14. Sounds like a great week. I'll have to try that area next year. That spot next to round island near the shoal marker is hot for perch! We had 30+ days everytime we fished there 2 weeks ago, most in the 10-12 range with a few 14s.
  15. No launch near his property, but a nice dock. Wow! What a complicated channel! I had a hell of a time coming back to the north launch at night! Didn't catch anything, but had more of a family cruise. I plan on giving it a better chance in the weekends to come. Thanks for your help guys!
  16. You guys know of a topo map online for Canandagua? How about a boat launch on the west side, near the middle? I have a friend with a cottage past the golf course. I'm hoping to find some time out there, as I've never truly experienced the Lakers.
  17. Where did you run into them? I'll be out there this week trying to hunt them down either out of Braddocks or I-Bay. I heard Puttneyville had a ton last season, so I may try down there if my buddies up for splitting gas money to do so!
  18. FYI: All of the shipping channel around Wellesley State Park is in Canadian waters. I'm not sure of the exact penalty, but have heard plenty of rumors about loosing boats, gear, and hefty fines. Here's a good map to check out. Notice that there is very little US water around the park until you go west and into Eel Bay, or going east thru the rift to to Lake of the Isles. http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/14773.shtml Sounds like a massive bully tho! I pulled in a 6lb. smallie not far from there in the mouth of the rift last week.
  19. I'm selling a 1987 Johnson 28hp longshaft outboard motor, with controls. It's a great running motor, perfect idle and trolling is exceptional. Electric start, and fires up on first turn without a fight every time. It also comes with 2 extra, different pitched props, gas tank, battery... I've reduced to $850 from $1200, which was a steal I was told! Email me for details or to schedule to check it out: shanepdale at gmail [/img]
  20. Hey Gene, I gave you a holler Saturday and Sunday a few times, but the closest I made it to Clayton was Swiftwater around Picton island, so maybe we were out of reach. Only remarkable catch i had was a 6lb smallie, 17.5". No pike to be seen, not even when we stopped trolling and jigged for perch. There were a few guys filleting a nice catch of Walleye when we got to the dock with our bucket of perch though. They said the caught them up in the Canadian Channel near Grindstone.
  21. My name is Shane, and I too am an addict You guys use a checking card to pay for things like groceries and gas right? DEBIT! You go to a Rite Aid, Walmart or Wegmans type store, and select debit instead of credit. Type in your pin, then they ask if you want cash back! I keep my stash right in my tackle box! Side jobs that pay cash help too. Anyone need a website?!
  22. I'll be up there camping out of Wellesley Island State Park for the 6th year in a row. My best fishing spots up there are the rift (be damn sure you know where that border is and hug the south shore to be sure), the Narrows thru Murray Island, Picton Channel, and the hole between big gull and little gull islands in Eel Bay. Top water in the near dark hours along weed lines is awesome for Rock Bass and Smallies. Drifting minnows about 8" off the bottom works well in the 18-24' range too. Can you tell I'm excited to go? We'll be in a 15ft. white aluminum Lowe, or a 20' tan walk-around SeaRay with dark brown canvas named High Times.
  23. Found my answer. Bad fuse harness! Fuse was fine, but no juice running out of it. Now that I replaced it, it starts right up every time. Now I have an overheating issue. I haven't run into trouble yet, but the water coming out of the stream is practically evaporating out of it, and is an inconsistent stream. I guess I'll bring it in. I was hoping it would treat me well fishing in the islands starting Friday...
