  1. My friend has one that he pulls his 17 ft. old-school ski boat with, and he loves it. He even says it out performs his wrangler when off-road at his camp down towards Dansville. Only thing he misses is the clearance. He's pulling out in gravel 90% of the time without any issues, but maybe your craft is heavier? Anyways, great trucks. I'm going to trade my dakota in for one in the spring. Tons of storage and convenience, and its rated and performs well. It even has a built in live well!!!
  2. which reminds me... why the F do people pull them by the dozens on shore to rot? Let them spawn and die on their own so we have better numbers! If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a walk along any creek in October and see the shores lined with them (5'+ away from the water). I understand collecting eggs to tie your own sacks, but WTF! Last year Sandy Creek in Hamlin was a war zone.
  3. Do we get to see pics? My father is ready to downsize and keeps talking Blue Finn.
  4. I'll give you 2,000 plus exclusive rights to use it whenever you want! Gorgeous boat... Exactly what I want... down the road some day hopefully.
  5. I'm a newbie to trolling as well Dave, and Dan hit it on the head. This board and others will put you in the neighborhood. One thing I'll add is that I'll usually spot the pack, do a huge loop around them as quickly as I can to get a decent idea for fow they're targeting, then move down the lake a mile or so and set up. I don't have the luxury (yet) of a probe to accurately know whats going on below the surface (speed/temp) or the experience for that matter, but keeping an eye for bait and fish on the screen, then targeting 5-10 ft. above has been my plan with acceptable results. Zig zagging n-s heading west @ 2.5mph seems to work better too for what I can only guess has to do with current. Good luck!
  6. Article last week on www.bassresource.com: [We videoed the procedure of fizzing or air bladder relief and release her. The video can be viewed at http://www.rattleheadbaits.com/index_files/feedback.htm and it is on the bottom of the page.] I don't know if it works for trout, but it might help you guys. Personally, I practice "if it floats, it stays on the boat". We had a good sized brown in the spring that we pulled up too fast i think, that did the side stroke while we reset our gear... tasted great in the Wegmans lemon olive oil and some Mrs.Dash!
  7. Nice bass! Nice pike too! Its not the claws you should be afraid of on those snappers. I've seen one chomp through a hockey stick! No lure's worth a finger... I'd let it go at the swivel or cut my line for sure. Thats a great setup you got there. I've never seen a kyak porcupined out like that. Sounds like its working well in our waters. I can't wait to hear how it handles a king! Glad you're on the water Phil!
  8. I knew that was the way to get in from Cuba, but is homeland really that tough at the Rainbow bridge? Maybe they should mount a windmill as a hood ornament Ray! I wonder what the top speed is? It can't be enough to plane out with all that drag, but the wheels would help getting out of Braddocks!
  9. Boat's running great! Still a few tweaks needed to make it right, but 36mph in a 15ft. aluminum boat doesn't leave alot to complain about! She's not a morning person, as since those damp, colder mornings have started it takes a while to get her warmed up. Maybe rebuilding the carbs will settle it. Also I need a transom plate i believe to lift it out of the water a few inches. The tilt arms spray water straight up and into my transom well. My bilge pump has gotten a workout! Also considering a whale tail to stabilize the ride. It was a great upgrade from a 28 to 50 and now its running great! Thanks again Hank! BTW, I still have that 28 Johnson for sale. 800 will get it out of my garage. let me know if you know anyone out your way lookin...
  10. First, this is the wrong forum, you'll get a better response in the bass/walleye section. Best way I've avoided the gobies, while fishing for perch in the islands, and bass fishing out in Ontario is to move your bait up 18" or so from a sinker. You can feel the gobies when you're on the bottom everywhere I've fished in the lake. Its ridiculous. Then move up a few inches and they leave it alone. The bass and perch hang up there besides. FYI: I caught a huge 13" gobie Monday. I thought they only got to be about 6" till I saw that bastard. He never saw the pliers coming until his head popped off! Kill them all! Also quite remarkable in our outing, my buddie landed a 23" brown in 14' in front of the braddocks point piers! Beauty, especially when drift fishing for smallies! It hit a orange/yellow fire tiger deep thunderstick. Let the spawning runs begin!
  11. Sweet! Glad to see you got out and landed a few fish! That Commorant Island is nasty, isn't it? Thats a great bass localle tho. Sounds like you were in all the right spots. Only other place I'd suggest is across the bay on the east side just south of the bridge. The point there always does me well, and it goes back into Helds Cove, which is filled with bass.
  12. Are you boating or shore fishing? What kind of fish are you interested in? You're surrounded by some of the best creeks and bays around. Of course Irondequoit Bay is right there along with The Genny and Webster pier, but Pultneyville, Sodus, Port Bay, Bear Creek, Maxwell Creek, are all within a half hour from Webster too. Catching sunnies and small bass tells me you're using worms most of the time. Up your bait to minnows or crabs, and/or try casting more lures and you'll attract bigger bass, pike, etc. If you know where any fish are, you've overcome the hardest part! Good luck!
  13. Will do. I was talking to an uncle of mine tonight and he told me he used to catch them just north of the public launch just off the weedlines too. Can't wait to see what the lake has to offer. Good luck hunting down musky! I caught my first one in June near Cape Vincent!
  14. Very cool, thanks for the help! I'll be out there on the 6th, now thinking about camping F,S & S to put more time in. Are you guys fishing the shorelines, or drop shotting in the deeper water? Looks like there are a few nice drop-offs around the points in the middle of the lake. Good luck this weekend, and I'll look forward to your post. I'll be out of Braddocks hunting for smallies!
  15. Thanks! I'm hopeful I'll find a tiger since I haven't caught one yet.
  16. I've never boated on Conesus, but will be there next Saturday for a work picnic at the NE side. Anyone have a good map they can forward? Any suggestions as to where to start out? We'll fish the morning and dusk I believe.
  17. am I right? 8 hours of no fish is STILL a successful trip! In all honesty though, my wife will wet a line now and again, and she's pretty easy on me when it comes to going out fishing. I was out in I-Bay on Tuesday night, caught a med. bass from the sandhill beach, bouncing a 3" white tube jig up the cliff (60'-4' drop) and had 2 more on, loosing one literally at my feet. Then we trolled after sunset for an hour or so. Didn't pull into anything, but marked alot of bait and a few hooks on the German Village side just north of the bridge 20' down over 30-40. I wish I had more time and my dipseys, but the wife and son were crashed out and we had to get in.
  18. so the minnows did well too... maybe I'll find a bait catcher since we plan on staying out there a night or two. I usually use tube jigs and plastic craws, but the perch love live bait. Hopefully the big o will settle down after the impending storm slated for Thursday... Cya out there!
  19. Way to make it happen! I busted my transducer off at the beach in that wind last weekend, but I think I salvaged it with guerilla glue and zip tie . I'll be out at the shoals all of Labor day weekend with the same game plan as you pointed out (trolling for monsters, then bass/perch program). We're thinkin about camping out on Roses Marsh beach if the weather cooperates!
  20. I'm just a rec guy, but I've been cursing about this for years as well. Every other county has a ton of support on their site, but I can't even find a list of boat launches in Monroe County? Anyways, if you guys need some help from a pro designer with a background in marketing, I'll donate my time to get some eyes on what we have here. I'm with Yankee, just have a weigh in and reg right in the parking lot for the whole city to see. Awareness is the key to bring this sport back to what it was.
  21. If you see a small yellow ski boat, its my friend Mark. He's been diligently trying to figure it out every Friday and Saturday. Any guiding words? I might join him on the hunt... more than likely though I'll be out on the lake looking for smallies at dawn in front of Long Pond.
  22. Black creek would be SOUTH from there, about 3 or so miles. Like I said previously too, there's plenty of shore fishing spots there, at the corner of Scottsville Road and Jefferson. There is even a small launch into Black Creek if you can get your kayak out that way. I've put my aluminum boat in there and hammered the pike back in the creek. Glad you had a good time! On your Birthday even wasn't it!
  23. The canal and Genny cross at Genesee Vally Park. Last time I was walking the dog back in there I talked to guy with a stringer of 4 nice sized walleye and 1 largemouth! He says there's a small creek that runs back into the golf course, and he casts a worm on a jig head near the mouth into the canal. Its on my list of places to go when boating is out of the question. Another nice spot on the Genny, is at Jefferson/Scottsville Rd. where Black Creek dumps in. I've caught a few monster pike back in the creek, and they made some really nice fishing access points at the mouth. I'd throw the bike on RTS headed for RIT since its only a half mile from there. I'm glad to hear about the Canal, as I promised the family a ride, maybe this week I hope. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a few poles off the back trolling some crankbaits I'm just afraid of what I might snag on in there!
