  1. Just in case anyone else is interested.... here's what I found so far: Sandy Creek Marina They don't open until May. He says they have alot of remodeling and repairs to do. Braddocks bay Bait and tackle (Manitou Rd.) $60 a week Genessee River - Gibbs Marina $22 a night I think Still waiting to get info from Mayers, and Braddocks Bay Marina. Anyone familiar with SouthPoint or Newport?
  2. Thanks Hank and Jeremy! I'll be calling them for an estimate once i know the motors sound and in the water! (priorities right?). Just picked up the GPS/finder, and my LOU sticker came in the mail, so i think I'm set on the vitals!!! Let the upgrades begin!!!
  3. I've got to agree, thru Joe's posts and his personal emails he quickly sent anytime I raised a hand, I feel as if I knew him well. I didn't make it out there that much and I am disappointed in myself that I never shook his hand for all the help. He is what got my first Steely with a dipsy, and what got me into the great sport of trolling. Here's to you Joe ! May we all learn from your guidance and contributions.
  4. Thanks guys! I have some work to do, but I'm looking forward to dressin her up Anyone have a canvas/side curtain kinda guy in their Rolodex? I'll have a bimini and camper frame, but curtains are ripped and the second canvas is missing. Anyone have anything against the Lowrance LMS 320 GPS? I'm going to pick a used one up this week.
  5. Its a 22.5' Raven. Merc 4.3L.
  6. Thanks for the tip! Jax just recommended the same! I'll call him on Monday.
  7. Personal dock or your unused slip. I bought a new boat that needs to be run and set-up before the LOC! I'll be calling around to the marinas, but would rather give funds to someone from LOU, and the savings into my boat!
  8. SICK! Thats awesome Tim. Unfortunatly my wife's Bday is on Saturday maybe I can 'cough, cough' make it out Friday or Monday....
  9. I've lost a good share of sunglasses fishing but never like that! That was good, thanks for sharing!
  10. Suck it up cupcake. Thanks for the info Sluggo. Spreading the word of whats working makes the fishing experience alot more enjoyable for those sportsmen like myself (and anyone on this site for that matter) that takes the time to read and contribute who can't make it out all the time. I hate the greediness of fish dicks, and I'm sure there's alot more than 69 of them!
  11. Thanks JR! Nothing fights like a big toothy! That's still my PB! She was ready to burst! I was out at Sodus on Feb. 7, west of Leroy Island, on the west edge of the deeper hole there in the center, lined up with the North tip of Leroy and the north tip of that smaller island. We had a smaller pike thru, along with a bucket and a smallmouth. The perch we found around there were on the bottom, where the larger species liked the presentation about 2 ft. up. Larger pike minnows did nothing, smaller niagra's only caught perch. The Medium bass minnows that were a bit more active than the bunch caught the bass and pike.
  12. I'm still a novice fishing out of my smaller boat for 5 years on Ontario and T.I., and have grown up around the lake and boats my whole life. I have about a half hour to kill, so I'll throw out a few things that come to mind. If they don't help anyone, at least they'll remind me to be safe and humble I've learned the following: When putting in, make sure the tie down straps are off; the motor will start in the driveway and at the launch; wait and take the wench off once your boat is 50% in the water until you're comfortable your boat wont slip off the trailer; and like it was said above to put the drain plug in. I've witnessed (and performed one, i wont say which) and they're a bad way to start the day. When at the beach or even parked fishing, more anchor line the better, and the use of 2 anchors if possible to stay where you want. I was anchored at Marge's near Irondequoit bay when the lake picked up. Luckily the wind was coming in instead of out, because the waves bent my anchor and pulled it loose, and I found my boat beached 4 doors down! Don't try to troll with Little Cleo style spoons! Also spend the extra dollar on good swivels, deploying them at every connection. Line wrap is expensive, frustrating, and time consuming. Without getting too close, if you see a grouping of boats out there, most of the time they know whats up. It can at least give you a good starting point if you're unsure of where the fish are. Avoid going out alone, and always make sure there are people who know your location and expected time of return. Dialing *24 on a Cell phone will get you directly to the coast guard, and regularly checking your VHF by saying "can I get a mic check" is always returned. Have a back up plan for everything. If you're out at night, have a back-up set of battery powered navigation lights. A reserve tank of gas is always smart. Keep a few bottles of water incase the sun or waves get to you. If you're trolling down the coast, keep in mind the next harbor in case the weather/lake acts up unexpectedly. Info is your best tool. Maps, depth charts, gps, fish finder, etc. are key to a good trip on the water, and fish in the well. LOU is the #1 spot online to learn about Lake Ontario region fishing and boating!!!! NO question is left unanswered, so ask often. I have and these guys have taught me "boat loads"
  13. Actively looking at my options for a new (to me) boat for the upcoming season. With 2 kids, and a want to fish bigger water. We're in the market for something with a cuddy, not under powered but economical (is there such a thing or do they cancel each other out?), easily trailerable, and minor blemishes acceptable. Things I'd prefer but are by no means mandatory or expected: • outboard • aluminum • canopy of some sort, love t-tops • swim platform • priced in the 2k-4k range I'll entertain any option, and appreciate any advice as to where I should look or suggestions anyone has in a boat they think is right for us.
  14. Is that at the rift? Where in TI did you go? Nice bucket!
  15. from personal experience, the largest pike I've seen are in the spring too, the best was a 52" female (damn scale was rusted up ) caught on an orange rapala I left out coming into Sandy Creek in Hamlin, but the fastest action was fall around heavy weedlines on drops. I think I'm going to target them more at ice out as recommended above!
  16. Nice smallies! I cant wait to head to TI this spring!
  17. great trip it looked like! What an opportunity! thanks for sharing Hank.
  18. A friend of mine had a dozen or so 12+ perch Monday on Sodus. Not sure nay details tho.

  21. Looks like a deformed rainbow. There's been other posts of em. When did you catch it?
  22. I wrote a similar letter to Bobs, recommending the use of 3 rods per person, while trolling in NYS.
