Seems like white oaks put off acorns once every couple of years. But if you search the woods you're sure to find 1 or 2 putting off acorns. I would rather have 1 or 2 white oaks trees putting off acorns instead of all the white oaks. Makes it easier to figure where to hang your archery stands, at least for the 1st 2 weeks of the season. I've seen deer walk past a standing corn field & not give it any notice to get to a white oak tree putting off acorns. Red oaks put off almost every year. I don't see deer give red oak acorns much run (a few exceptions, chestnut oak) . They must be a bit bitter. They'll eat them. But usually save them for later after most other options are gone. Looks like red oaks are set to drop quite a few acorns this year. Around my area we've got apple, crab apple & hickory trees loaded with a bumper crop. Butternuts are spotty. Like someone mentioned earlier walnut trees are loaded to the hilt. Good luck to all!

You're right! I forgot about the "NOAA" factor of THEIR height of the wave x 2= actual wave height! Thanks for the reminder.

Wave report for Hurricane Irma I was curious so I went to NOAA's site to check the "offshore" & "open sea" wave report in & around the Hurricane. We can't get out on the Great Lakes when there are 2-4' to 3-5' waves. How would you like to be looking at 27' waves on the offshore & 54' waves in the open sea? That is just mind boggling! Nice Fish! They both still look pretty silver! Two fish to make your season with in 15 minutes.

I would think that would be at the discretion of the angler who caught the fish. Or if there was a pre-arrangement made before hand between you & your fishing partners. I've only placed 3 times in the derby & it wasn't for a lot of money. And my fishing buddy & I have always had a 50/50 arrangement no matter who catches the fish. And we're also not on a charter. Maybe the folks who fish on charters can help more with this question than I. Good Luck & hope you run into that "problem". B Safe!

cannon rigger issue I have a Cannon rigger that is having, I think a clutch issue. The unit is a manual crank Cannon Uni-troll 10. Upon lowering the rig into the water the spool will grab & stop the ball from lowering. If I crank it counter-clockwise a bit it will start to lower again. But then it will stop again. This will happen till I have the ball to the correct depth. Any ideas? Is there a viable service center other than Cannon I can send the unit to be repaired? Or do you think I can repair it myself? Any help would be welcome & appreciated. Be safe!

We had a "gnat" (just for 1 year, in 1 or 2 counties)that hung around water holes & was biting the deer transmitting a disease called Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease(EHD) that would make them thirsty, seek water & die, either in the streams or ponds. It was terrible. Anytime you were around water you would find a dead deer. The woods smelled like death. But it only lasted 1 year. Being that it only lasted 1 year made it seem odd. But that was the official story the Pa. Game Commission was sticking too. But the deer population took a noticeable hit.
