  1. I'm sure there is, just a question of how far out the safe ice extends. should be pretty good now though. just be careful on the way out...check it often to be safe. think i saw on the shanty that people have ben going out from the launch for a bit now. might read through the thread there [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. me? I would do the south end. its locked up now and heard its producing. you wont have to deal with all the gill fishermen at the north end, but then again you wont have the dink action to keep you busy while waiting for flags to fly either.
  3. I'm planning on it, but been holding off in case of unavoidable conflicts. Guess its close enough to pull the trigger. I should be +1 for it too [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. I'm not sure whether its technically faulty info or not but certainly not the numbers we would hope for. you're right on about migration though...can't recall where I read this but i saw studies that have shown fish do move around the three rivers system and can start in one lake and end up in another (onondaga to oneida for instance) [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. I have had the same experience. pickerel but no pike. from what I've read and heard, the pike used to be plentiful but the swampy transitional areas that were their prime spawning grounds have been alerted and filled to create regular shoreline for waterfront homes. numbers have been steadily decreasing over the decades I think the pickerel must spawn under slightly different conditions [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  6. I would say curado or the toro but not the toro winch for pike. I haven't used the toro series but I do use the 300 and like it a lot. the winch is for dcgs and the like [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  7. first I've heard of it. even if they did most likely all are gone by now...that was 15 years ago. certainly not worth your time targeting there for tigers specifically [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  8. oneida will be a zoo unless you are prepared for a looong walk or have a machine or private access. cross is safe now just stay away from the south end. cross lake marina has access [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  9. Dayum thats a nice sized fish! Looks 40" easily. Wish I could see the historical stocking rates. All I can see on the DEC website is 350 in 2009. Doesn't sounds like much but it's small and that's only one year. Now ya got me thinking [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  10. Wow, small is right...I used to be up the boonville/lowville way 1-2 times a month for 5 years and never heard of it! If its really no motor (or even hp restricted) i'm probably not likely to fish it, on account of being lazy I haven't pulled out the canoe even once since I bought the boat How much pressure does it get? Sounds like probably not much if it so far off the beaten path, could be some bigguns I suppose. I could be temped to ice fish it tho... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  11. hey tiger hunter, welcome aboard! bunch of muskie hunters and generally good guys around here. come late june a lot of us will be frequently down on waneta. nice little lake. great job on those tigers. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  12. good deal. just remember what i said...if you decide to go big, consider your pricing so that you can manage the volume and keep the quality up without starving your family. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  13. Oh yeah, I will be down on the cow for at least a few day trips, starting with the first open water. I will let you know... I'd like to try for some stripers, so I will probably make a raystown weekend (instead of cave) but that will be a bit later in the spring. I heard RT isn't that good for muskies, so probably just a hurl a few token big baits for chits and giggles if i see a slimy looking spot while I'm there. Another store stocking huh? Sounds like things are going good on the baker bait front for ya. thought maybe I'd see an ad in the new issue of MH. Maybe get Jim Bortz to do a cover pic of a slobber breaking the surface with baker hooked tightly in it's mouth. Talk about product placement! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  14. Thinking I'm not going to make butler so you'll have to show me one from your personal stash next time I see ya. Btw what was that striper/musky lake you mentioned a while back? Considering a wknd on raystown in the spring...was that the one? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  15. On sale in the new bass pro ad if you're in a hurry [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. gambler, how do you like your camera set up? do you point it downward at the surface or keep it horizontal and rotate it around? particularly if you're in weedy areas. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  17. Yep, some guys will even have 2 setups and swap the head unit. Some of the hummingbird FFs have a flasher screen built in. Then it's just a matter of getting a 2nd 'ducer. Just be sure that if you do, you get a dual beam. Sonar first, camera second. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  18. Those look really nice zach. Tough to say whether I like those better than the foils. Your foils are amazing (pretty high bar ya set!) but pics just don't do glitter the justice they deserve IMO - it's all in the movement. Can't wait to see 'em in person. Will you have them at Road Rules? NM [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  19. We bought a half acre in a nice development on cross lake...going to build in the next couple years [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  20. Sounds like when they "renamed" the Patagonian monk fish as Chilean sae bass and the price went up something on the order of like 10x. I agree they need to find some use for these fish that will spur on some real commercial harvest. I like the 'feed the poor' idea, but I'm sure they would turn their nose up at it when they found out what it was...apparently beggars CAN be choosers in these days, with all of us forking over huge percentages of our paycheck to them in the form of runaway govt programs [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  21. yes, seems to be an open tournament [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  22. me? I rather release my sewer trout, preferably daily and unharmed (sorry SF, the door was open couldn't help myself )
  23. It's a very nice lake. We were looking at property here as well, but ended up finding something elsewhere. It's relatively shallow for it's surface area so it warms nicely in the summer, tubing and swimming are good but be prepared for wading in weeds if swimming from shore, there are few if any steep break lines- shallow for a good ways out nearly everywhere. Fishing is great for sm lm bass eyes perch burbot and pickerel. Pike these days are rare. Best inland lake around for eater eyes, so yes, plenty clean. There are tournaments every day on the weekends including an annual stop on the pro bass tour. so be prepared for some potential noise at 7 am or earlier every weekend if you are not tucked back in a bay, particularly if you are near oneida shores park on the sw shore. The water quality is good for such a shallow lake. Yes it can get a bit greenish mid summer, but generally not pea soup, save for an occasional bloom as you mentioned. Cant say how frequently that is tho. Turnover can get a bit stinky too, particularly on the south shore in late fall but no one is swimming then. Good luck with the hunt! 24. linked get truncated in the body of the forum, you have to click on it and pull the addy from the top of your browser window. BTW- did you see a post somewhere that said the article was inaccurate- conewewango flows into chatauqua then into Erie, whcih they say is incorrect. I as well thought that Chautauqua flows into the Chadakoin river and into the allegheny. the whole premise could be wrong according to this guy. seems likes hes right, but what do i know
