  1. that's good news Sean...I think? what exactly do you mean when you say you 'got' him? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. the new NYS record is 46...came through the ice of otisco during the period covered in that report. the report mentions a few others logged via the diary program approaching that length as well...some not to be returned [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. I was reading the DEC's Otisco Lake Volunteer Angler Diary Cooperators report from March 2009. Due to the increasing quality of the tigers population, it suggests that there may be some consideration of rasing the minimum size to create what amounts to a trophy tiger fishery. From the report: "It may be time to consider a higher length limit for Otisco tigers to take advantage of the lake’s excellent growth potential. We would be interested in hearing your opinion about increasing the minimum length to either 36 or 40 inches." I would encourage anyone to weigh in on this and share your views with the DEC region 7: [email protected] Since it doesn't look like we're likey to get pures stocked into any new lakes around here, this would certainly be a welcome addition which offers a slightly different perspective and approach than targeting pure muskie. there are plenty of other local waters to catch an eater pike or if for whatever reason people feel the need to bring home a tiger muskie. I personally would also advocate that the minimum length be a bit higher, say 45- to make it an honest trophy fishery if you want to view the report its here http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/r7otisad08.pdf thanks NM
  4. Chad- here is a link to a site that has a picture of one of the latiano jerkbaits-you'll have to scroll down...keep in that Ed made lot of differentt lures in lots of styles...his estimate was several tens of thousands over the 70+ years of making them http://www.lurebuilding.nl/enggallery2.html I imagine from the looks of it, this is the one that was used in the tourney (the ready eddy)... but I will ping the guy and see if he can confirm. Zack- just to be clear, the Ready Eddy was/is an actual Latiano, while Leo is a separate mfgr that is still in production: slightly different though based on Latiano's original design. http://www.leolures.com I was told that Latiano did not want to sell/transfer the name or production of his exact lures (brand) to someone else. quick bit of history i found: http://www.rozzolures.com/PostGazette.html
  5. yeah, I think about it all the way to the lake, every time...but then head north from the launch.
  6. Chad, yes that was the lure that Lance was throwing for the win in Sept. ya better get in line....they aren't made anymore since he passed and I imagine that people keep a tight grasp on them as I've never seen one for sale...if I had, I would've snapped it up! but you've given me an idea, I'm going to see if mr toothy can/will repro them or something similar. he showed me a 'special' latiano at his place that I think was the jerkbait.
  7. If ya got a lot of time on your hands I've got a solution for you Joe....a little bit of time clean house with a 12 ga, and a lot more time to 'chill' in the bighouse have to admit, as bad as this incident might seem... as long as there's an open season with such low size limits, we've got bigger issues to deal with.
  8. gotta say I've been wanting to give it a go myself for a long time, but I'm to chicken. keep going for the better odds on waneta. I was talking to a very reputable source last week that was saying that a drop off by the north island has produced in recent years...I'm making a new years resolution to give it a try this year
  9. those Maina rods ARE nice for the price. in fact they have one less now I think it was like $70. looks like only the ones on the shelf now- no longer on the BPS website. But at $37, they're practically giving those Gander rods away. sock one away for that price.
  10. In case anyone needs a new rod...Was at the Gander Mt in Henrietta yesterday...they have a bunch of IM-7 and IM-8 guide series muskie rods on major sale- under 40 bucks, clearance- not beefy enough for mag dawgs but some were goodall around rods (3-4 oz range, I think). I'd have picked one up if I hadn't just spent over double that elsewhere last month for my big bait rod
  11. thanks Larry and likewise, merry christmas to you and all the other musky nuts here! hope santa brings everyone all the fishing gear they've been dreaming of [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  12. ahh ok, since ya asked Musky Hunter website has their online fishing game up for the winter. www.muskyhuntergame.com Chaut is one of 5-6 lakes let's hear your high scores. mine is 1147 in my first few attempts.
  13. wow, lots of you old farts 'round here holdin that average age waay up there. 34 years...Had to do the math Not 'young' but it'll pull that LOU average age down by .000001
  14. LOL...Ahhh No!! that invader is good just the way it is I was on R+H last night looking at the replacement tails last night, but even that will be a sad day when its finally toast. the old one's going on the wall when that happens the believer on the other hand has a pretty sad 'nitro custom' job on it now that needs some serious attention. plain pearl body wasn't doin it for me: some painters tape, a brush and whatever colors of testors model paint that hadn't dried up in storage for 20 years and now its damn ugly. I was about to paint the clear storage box black so no one would see my 'handywork' we'll have to meet up for a beer (on me!) and make the hand off. I'm sure you'll breath some new life into her...
  15. Zach- cant wait to see the new creations June 19th I've got one believer that needs a do-over fo sure.
  16. I'm in +1!! can't wait... Will have my $$ in by April 1 Thanks again Capt Larry for putting on these great events. Glad to see the new format helps out the fund even more as well.
  17. good luck to you and BP out there hope it stays nice and calm for ya and bring us back a nice pic [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  18. some HP restricted lakes will allow you to take the prop off the big motor and still be in compliance - which would be the only reason I would consider the 9.9, otherwise if you have no intention of going to one, for muskie you're looking for a 15 (20 wouldn't be too much if you find a good deal) to get up into the higher speeds (above 5, even to 10) without revving up/straining the motor, loosing fuel efficiency and wanting earplugs. If I remember, your big motor is 2 stroke merc, no premix, so as long as you go 4-stroke (good idea ) or otherwise don't need premix, then you can plumb it right into the fuel system (tee). I don't use a kicker, but power tilt seems to be one feature that those who don't have it kick themselves over I'm sure others will chime it, and welcome to the trolling club. NM
  19. Well there goes another season here in NY . Was a good day to be out though, and gus' tasty burgers washed down with a cold Blue was a great capper. Thanks for those Gus and Wendy we didn't troll a lick (probably a first -and only- for me this season)...casting the shallows and structure and jigging the breaks 'n bottom. my partner josh hooked up with 1 jigging one of my custom 'vince bianchi specials' on the breakline but it quickly got loose. it was a very subdued hit and fight. quite the negative mood on those fish... Chad- Glad to hear you had a good closer. that'll give keep ya excited for June. dont beat yourself up over those follows. any action is good action... thats just how it goes. sol- Ice it is!!!
  20. just pulllin this back to the top...I will be there at the launch @ 9 on Sunday with beers in tow. looks to be decent weather too. 47 for a high with light winds [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  21. thanks Larry. I will check those out. thought he had passed but didn't want to start a rumor if it wasn't the case. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  22. sounds like a great day out there...the harbor wasn't so kind to us but was great to get familiar with it and the river on such a nice day! sounds like the lure you're talking about it is a latiano jerkbait...but I thought I heard the guy wasn't making em anymore ...hmmm [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
