  1. Gus- guilty as charged on both counts only went north for a short bit though. had i known it was you i'd have swung over but come to think of it I don't think I've ever seen your boat...only met up with you in Bob's. Mark was that you I saw trolling in the S end in the deep V? I was working that area pulling planers for a bit. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. I was out there sunday as well. spend some time fishing and some time helping a buddy out with his new repower. If ya saw the blue smoke signals...that was him and his double oil It was a bit tougher fishing than I expected. Picked up 1 similar sized pike to yours just before calling it a day- small swimbait. hair shy of 30. quick cell pick and she was pack swimming
  3. that happens a lot on chautauqua...maybe not getting them INTO the boat but.... I was out with a guide last year just after turnover. the muskie bite was so tough that we fished walleyes with the intention/hope of that happening....it didn't but put 1 in the boat on the walleye jig anyway...go figure [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. yeah I read elsewhere that people who know him said he is very short [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. caught on inland lake in NW corner of the lower penninsula. I think Michigan uses the st clair fish for stock brood tho. definitely held away from the body in the pics. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  6. nice fish! sounds familiar...my first came earlier this spring on a bass spinner after I gave up on the tigers without a whiff all morning and switched to bass fishing- including the smaller baits and lighter tackle.
  7. People do but sounds like not as much- from what Capt Larry was saying most species populations in niagara/erie have declined in relation to the clearer water (zebras)
  8. Hey bob, how ya been?! In looking at it on a real computer it does look doctored, but wonder why someone would need to? it was certified, so whats to gain or prove? makes me think thats just the appearance of the pic but that it really hasn't been altered
  9. registration @ the launch till 6:30 am [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  10. I know Zach ...but there has been much speculation out there about what as really used... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  11. Im with Sol- haven't fished it much but those are good spots...if you're going to try the north end you might also make a run about 3 miles down on the east side and try along the bluffs [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  12. picture I saw was of a wiley knock-off with some nasty teeth marks...haven't seen the article so im not sure if that pics in there or not... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  13. a 55 gets the record in michigan??? gawd that thing looks bigger than that...it must be 1 incredible porker because I can't believe there haven't been some longer fish coming out of the UP north of WI...wow. somehow doubt its a photoshop job unless they figured out how to 'shop reality...that fish was witnessed and cert by officials there...
  14. I was out there a couple weeks ago and it was sooo dark that I couldn't see my hand in front of my face with the anchor light on let alone see the boards... and gave up. I like the reflector suggestions, but I was thinking some glow-in-dark strips attached to the flags or the boards themselves. any thoughts or experience with that, good or bad? 15. yeah, Zach...I heard sucker theft is on the rise. Better watch your line if Bob's sporting a snorkle on saturday [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. thanks for the well wishes guys... got the call from the shop today. $60 in expedited shipping on the parts and it *should* be good for the weekend provided they don't find any other underlying issues requiring parts after replacement of this one....never thought I'd pray so hard for my wife's speedy recovery!! here's to hoping [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  17. hey Zack, who is this Zack person of which you speak? Lookin iffy now for me. IF the boats even back from the shop, I gotta decide whether I want to deal with what sounds like it will amount to parades along the road to the launch, parades around the weededge and yet another parade up the middle led by some guy named Zach running color commentary and stirring up the silt that and wife had surgery today, so we'll see if I gotta play happy homemaker by then still On the other hand, conesus should be empty, right? so maybe I can sneak out there for a few hours to myself Guess we'll see...calling tomorrow to get a status update on the boat.
  18. Gus- you're too good a teacher! good for Wendy!! were you guys casting or (i assume) trolling... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  19. haha...no fishing for me this weekend. 10th anniversary and as much as I like fishing, i'd like to stay married for another 10 at least up in canada admiring the falls and enjoying the wineries. the closest I will come is fishing show on the hotel tv this morning and thinking of the muskies as I look at the river from my hotel window! thanks for the info guys sounds like the stars are starting to align there ...waylander- I will drop you a PM in the coming days... 20. zack I have to say that I agree with you about shying away from these plastic lures, but for a slightly different reason: I was pretty interested when I saw the post title but seeing the word plastic I decided to take a pass..at least for now. for me the bigger issue is that you can buy this plastic bait and that plastic bait from different makers and invariably they all come from a handful of the same blanks...the only difference is the paint job... I don't need to have the same blank in a million colors variations from a bunch of mfgrs... ok so maybe one puts in a larger BB or uses two...just not that big a deal to me. yes the same could be said of the the variation (or lack thereof) in wooden lures BUT with the wooden ones, even if the blanks are the same, the maker has a lot more flexibility to customize the shape and thus the action of the lure or drill it out and add weight etc. just my .02... 21. haven't been to Conesus for a couple months, but with the low water temps this summer I was thinking the bigger pike there are probably getting hungry and active in a bit shallower water. probably time for a visit soon. Any reports? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  22. that's interesting Chad...I have to say that ALL of my fish there this year have come on the SAME bait regardless of size above/below 40...despite running a variety of colors and baits. mine was a dark green color...not sure if that constitutes natural or not LOL... 23. Hey Gus I can't think of a situation where I would want my leader tied direct. As you pointed out, tying that is a real pain...now imagine trying to successfully retie on the boat. Gotta be able to swap em out quickly when one gets nicked or risk looking the next fish [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  24. if you have time and the means I highly recommend chautauqua. waneta is small and the little bit of good weeds get pounded pretty hard. if you do hit waneta I would downsize a bit...the fish tend to be on the smaller side. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  25. I use a snap with a swivel and a split ring where it attaches to the braid. unless you're trying to accomplish something other than their intended purpose I think 1 somewhere along the line is enough and any more than that just adds more potential for 'equipment failure'. just my opinion...
