  1. between 1.5 and 10 mph seriously, a good starting speed is between 4-5 and make adjutments from there if they aren't hitting. other will probably chime in with different rules of thumb, but tonite Im typing with MY thumbs... so that's all for now [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. chautauqua without a hesitation...the numbers per acre (and size) are among the best you will find anywhere. don't avoid waneta but make a point of getting to chautauqua. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. nice going Tony! the winner was Lance McFeely from just over the PA border...he's a regular there and seems to keep up with the patterns as they develop pretty well as a result, based on my few conversations with him...47inch and also had a 46 from what I recall. sounds like you had a good day on the water nonetheless. big thanks to Larry for his hard work in putting this together! a good time as always... and the molsons hit the spot . it was a good LOU showing...all (that I know of) boated fish...a bunch came at a similar time in the AM but from the sounds of your 45 things must have turned on near ending time too, ours came at 3:30 on the ole invader (again!)...and nope I didn't run it the whole day...go figure. talk about the mojo on that sucker... great meeting/seeing everyone again! 4. yeah Its been a tough couple weeks for me-working feverishly to get the motor into shape. Long story short: decided to do some routine maintainance and take care of what I thought were just some minor problems. Turned out the minor issues weren't so simple so its been most of my waking hours (and some would-be sleeping hours) along with overnight shipping charges and a few hundred miles of driving to get parts, LOTS of tear-downs and testing to disgnose and repair in time for my Oneida trip last weekend (did great on pike and bass though ) Those optimax motors are great when they're working but a bi+ch to work on... That video reminded me why I put myself through it though Here's a local business idea: open a marine repair shop with good customer service that can actually FIX an opti, not just claim to
  5. see ya'll there! I won't get down there Thur night like I had hoped. that little thing called work is getting in the way (good problem to have in this economy I guess). oh well. Will be there in time for the seminar though. Larry, have that Molson XXX ready!!! muskies: I'm ready for ya!!!
  6. awesome job! way to get the little lady into it! do we have another addict and if so, does this mean Zack is no longer fishing the tourneys solo??? btw- Zack we'll be sure to ask about your 'boyfriend' next time we see ya! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  7. Fall game plan is locked and loaded! I'm thinkin ahead... its concievable that my boat wont even get wrapped this winter...for 3 months it just aint worth it. I look forward to trying new waters too. i'll be sure to wear my PFD though
  8. Well, that'll teach ya not to punch 'em when they aint producing! Solgrande has a little tribute to his escapade with a treble that he uses in his signature: May your hooks be sharp and your hands free of them! Rather fitting here, but as advice its a little late. glad it worked out ok for ya though.
  9. yup...the merits and politics of this have made for an interesting debate here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12673 NM
  10. Tony typical glacial lake structure, or lackthereof like the rest of FLs. 30ft max, 800 acres. gradual taper on the West side and some dropoffs along the East and a few minor points on both. this year has been pretty good to those both trolling as well as casting around the weededges at the N and S end shallows: fish pretty much anywhere-temps in the sweetspot. some 40s, lots of 30s. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_ ... elkmap.pdf Like Ray said, no public accomodations on the lake, but depending on which way you're coming from you could also check out Penn Yan-couple hotels there too and and a straightforward 20 minute drive to the ramp. NM
  11. I haven't, primarily because its so close to Chautauqua that I go the extra 10 miles to 'the mecca'. I have heard its a 'confidence booster' lake because it has good numbers and odds are favorable, but that most of the fish there are rather small. I really want my 50"!
  12. Anyone ever been to Cowanesque Lake just south of Corning? I tried the Allegheny Res this spring with 'average' results for that lake (i.e. nothin ) so I'm going to give cowanesque a shot next spring while we wait for our season to open. its only 2 hours from Roch and is stocked with pures and tigers. Heard from some PA guys that it has 'good' numbers and came reccommended. so it should be worth the trip. seems to have some decent structure to it, so it should be interesting...1,100 acres (waneta is 800) and a max depth of 75. west lake map east lake map NM
  13. Ya got that right Bob, you're like a junkie! but I'll keep takin your cast-offs
  14. Wow! that's incredible...I was thinking the EXACT same thing, but I'm going to add a glow bead ahead of my leader too [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  15. well the dice may have fallen the wrong way for you on the muskie front but you sure did well getting off the water at the right time on saturday before that weather front blew through...waneta isn't That far from canandaigua... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  16. surprized I've not heard mention of dypsies or jet divers. do people not use them on conesus deep summer 'eyes? separate idea: one thing I like to do to is to use the trolling motor (not a kicker- the 24v kind) and lash the pedal with velcro to hold it straight ahead, set it to constant on and use the big motor to steer. keeps a nice slow (1.5ish depending on setting and wind direction) speed for dragging worm harnesses or even reef runners at the right pace while doing it quietly. 17. hey Ray Sol and I were talking about the same thing...definitely seems to be more action there this year...I think the fishery is maturing but more importantly the water temps have been ideal...that little lake usually turns to bathwater pretty quick but the not so hot days and especially the cool nights seems to be keeping the water temp right in the sweet spot so not only are not sulking from the high temps but they are also in those places where people tend to fish (not hunkered deep in the deeper water) Georged- would have liked to have met the two of you...guess 'tis better than having a problem far from home and getting stranded...till next time [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  18. finally broke the Waneta streak...went down after work: on the water by 7 and by 8:30 had the 1st one in the boat. 40incher. good and dark out, shortline trolling near the weededge. water temps back down around 70 again. hey, no peeking at the lure! had a couple celebratory brews with Sol back at the launch after. must say, it feels good to have finally cracked it there this year-I was going NUTS. gotta say that the tuff shads from Zack musta had some extra luck on 'em! Just don't ask for 'em back Hopefully the same will hold true of the ones I got from Bob-he's got a whole box full to get 'rid' of...good stuff too! NM
  19. cool! thanks for the details Larry. Sol's been gett'n me fired up about that one but I didn't have the info... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  20. im going to try the magnolia eff. that seems like a good central spot...an on the correct side for the launches I use as well as the HHooker. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  21. Dont get worked up guys, its just someone and that would be in the metaphorical sense only...
  22. OK I think (hope) we have a prankster in our midst...Gus, is that you [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  23. there is a nice patch of green weeds (or at least it was a few weeks ago) next to, just south of the inlet to snug harbor marina (again just south of prendergast launch). they were picking up massive SMs and LMs there. there is also a nice rock pile (warners bar, I think its called) on the north side of long point. SMs are generally a good bet there... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
