  1. That'll work too. I can meet you anywhere near here.
  2. The North Country is indeed a special and unique place, I couldn't agree more. I think that is why so many soldiers who get stationed here end up staying here. Especially those that have their spouses and children here with them. Billy Bach showed how much class he has, doing what he did for Andy. The wind looked like it was really blowing the day they got his boat off those rocks, so that made the recovery that much more challenging. Great job by everyone involved, and everyone who gave what they could, even if it was just sending prayers.
  3. No problem with the delay, I'm in Carthage, NY 13619, just east of Watertown. The closest I'll be to your neck of the woods is this Thursday when I'll be in Syracuse around lunch time.
  4. The gofundme page for Andy has raised over $4,700 as of this update, so things are looking much better for Andy than they were a few days ago.
  5. Thought I would post an update on this story. After the news broadcast about Andy a bunch of people and businesses stepped up to the plate to help him out. A local excavating company got his boat off the rocks and towed him to a local marina where his boat will be stored for the winter. 6. I've seen guys lose everything and still be afraid to ask for help because of the bad label you might get. It usually depends on the chain of command. I've been in extremely awesome units and I've been in the absolute worst units, and everything in between. I don't know this guy's past but its still a sad story.
  7. I saw this news story on Newzjunky last night and thought I would share it on LOU. I don't know this veteran, but it strikes a chord when I see a fellow veteran struggling to make it in the world. I served 20 years in the Army and when this veteran left the Army there wasn't the types of transition programs that there are today. He has fallen on hard times this year and someone reached out to the local media to get him some help. More often than not, veterans don't ask for help on their own because its the military culture to not show signs of weakness, and asking for help can be viewed as a weakness in some military cultures. Someone set up a go-fund-me page for him, and they reached their goal of $2,000, but his sail boat is washed up on Cherry Island near Chaumont NY and $2,000 won't get him very far. I'm not asking for anyone to donate, but I'll attach the go-fund-me link in case you want to donate. I'm just sharing a story of a local veteran in need. His boat is his home and it's been on the rocks since August. Here is the local news story... http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/Iraq-War-Vet-Living-In-Stranded-Boat-On-Lake-Ontario-Island-395889471.html https://www.gofundme.com/2srbdz84 Mods, if I violated any LOU rules please let me know, as that is not my intent.
  8. Sorry, I wonder if the edit option is only available to "Pro" members. I didn't think about that earlier. Maybe a moderator can clarify that for us.
  9. Go back to this post and locate the word "edit", which is to the left of the "MultiQuote" box. Then click on Use Full Editor at the bottom. Then click on Sold/Closed at the top left. Then click on Submit Modified Post at the bottom.
  10. The "edit" is a very light grey colored word, not in a box, lower right side on a computer. It's just left of the "multi quote" box.
  11. Good point. I use these steps on my laptop and some of it on my Android. I don't use or own Apple electronics. My goal with this thread was to generate some awareness and insight where it could apply to a bunch of members, and hopefully make it easier and better for everyone.
  12. Now, how to close an ad. Go to the bottom of your first thread when you opened the ad, and click on "edit". Next, click on "use full editor". Then go up to the top, and in the "Topic Prefix", select "Sold/Closed" to close your ad. You can also update or change the title of your ad, from FOR SALE to TRADE or whatever the update is.
  13. If you want to add more pics then simply click on the "edit" option at the lower right. You can then click on "use full editor"
  14. There seems to be a lot of members who don't know how to attach pictures on here, or how to close an ad that they open, after your item sells or a change in the status. So I figured it was time to do a little tutorial, step by step. Trust me, if I can figure it out, so can you. I am 1 level above the Amish when it comes to computer skills. If you post an ad on the forum it is YOUR responsibility to edit and close that ad. It gets a little frustrating to see an item for sale, only to ask if it is still available and find out that the item sold "a long time ago". So please do all of us a favor and manage your ads. Step 1: start a new topic and select whether you are selling, renting or trading an item Step 2: Scroll down to "choose file" if you want to attach a picture Step 3: Once you choose a picture or "file", click on "attach this file" Step 4: Look to the right and see the "add to post" option. Click there to add the file Step 5: You can select to "preview post" at the bottom, then if everything looks good you can click on "post new topic"
