  1. LG, Here's one of them. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/ ... /bufmz.htm
  2. Bob, Nice looking fish. I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Did you let anybody else land any fish? Jim
  3. I drove down to take a look yesterday. There is a slight zig-zag between the docks and the curb to the left. Once your passed, there is at least half the total launch area open to manover. I don't see any problems. Worst case, really big trailers may have to jump the curve. Oh, and by the way- RUDY'S IS OPEN!!!
  4. I too have to say 'hats off' to the LOTSA organizers. I drove up through the snow yesterday morning to attend the 'Best Chance Too' seminar, and was glad I did! I came away with a lot of good information to apply this fishing season and a few new freinds. Today, I blew lots-o-bucks (all for good stuff), and met quite a few LOU members. It's always great when you can put a face with a name. Muskybob, I'm one of the guys you must have walked by. I'm sorry I missed you. I'll definately add this event to my calendar for next year! Good fishing, Jim
  5. My buddy Mike and I rub a drop on our hands every time we go out fishing to cover our scent. Does it Work?? Do we catch more fish?? Can't say for sure, but I don't think it hurts!! Jim
  6. I tried it for a short time last summer. First, I had a hard time finding it. I started with all Sodus shops, and ended up at Fat Nancy's before I found it. The conversion was easy, and they preformed as promised (I didn't try them beyond 120 ft though). They do reset which saves a lot of time re-rigging. But, as Matt says, after a hit, you need to check your tackle when you loose the fish anyway. For that reason, I stopped using them. Jim
  7. Billy, I'll take the two AD47LC's for $40 each if you still have them. I'm up in Wolcott, and can swing down to pick them up any time. Let my know. Jim 315-594-8066
  8. It's official. I am now as old as dirt (65)!!
  9. Excellent Fishinman, I see you've read the classics! Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. See you all soon! Jim
  10. Early June morning- south end of Port Bay
  11. For the last 10 years or so, I've been using the old standard Brinkmann charcoal (R2D2) model with good results, but always wanted something with more racks. So, I noticed that Bass Pro had the Masterbuilt Black Propane Square Smoker with four racks on sale for $150 and bought one yesterday. I only saved $20, but convinced my wife that it was a great deal! I'm assembling it today, and will let you know how I like it soon. Chowder, I like the sounds of your Rib Rub recipe. Have you tried it on a pork shoulder or pork steaks? Jim
  12. I learned to drive in a 1956 Chevy Belair!! I'm 64. I'll be 65 next month!! Jim
  13. Thanks for the link to the Oswego lighthouse Musky Bob. Those pictures bring back some great memories. I grew up in Oswego (eastsider, about four blocks from the harbor), and as a kid, I used to ride my bike to Fort Ontario, sit on the hill above the harbor and watch the waves roll over the breakwall like it wasn't even there! Jim
  14. Dave, The only part of your story I didn't like was when it ended!! Great story, great fish, great pictures. One of these days, I'll have to make the run to BOQ! Jim
  15. Has to be the NK 28 Watermelon. It was our 'go to' spoon all year!
  16. Yah Hank. I didn't notice that before! I'm standing on Mike's dock in the picture.
  17. I just got this picture from my fishing buddy Mike McCoy, and thought I'd share it with you, even if it wasn't a money fish. I caught it on the first day of the fall derby. Mike and I were fishing out of Port Bay and took it on a NK Watermelon, just west of the channel in 90 FOW. It weighed in at 28 lbs. 14 ozs., and held first place for about two and a half hours! From there, it was a steady down hill trip, until I fell below 20th about ten days later. Still, it was nice to see your name on the board for a little over a week! At least I have something to look at until spring!!
  18. Muskybob, I finally got around to making a batch of your chowder yesterday. It was FANTASTIC!! My wife said that she would order it in a resteraunt if it was on the menu. My daughter and grandaughter, who don't like fish, each had two bowls! I, of course, had too many bowls! I was thinging of bringing some over to Hank today, but it's all gone!! Sorry Hank, maybe next time. I know you can't improve on perfection, but have you ever tried to vary the recipe for say a shrimp or crawdad chowder? Jim
  19. Augh-oh!! I laughed so hard, I think I popped a gut muscle!!
  20. Andy, The fishing has been slow the last couple of weeks. Our last time out was 0 for 0. The time before, 1 for 1. Watch out for your prop going out of the channel. There was less than three feet of water on the lake side, and its still falling. Good fishing, Jim
  21. I had the pleasure of catching a few Kokanee out of Polliwog Pond about eight to ten years ago. They are a beautifully marked fish (wish I took pictures) and put up one heck of a fight. Every year, my son and I, along with about four to six other crazies, used to go to the St. Regis Canoe Area off route 30, north of Tupper Lake in the spring, just after ice out for some trout fishing and camping. This area consists of about thirty ponds that are connected by portage routes and campsites. Both Polliwog and Long Pond were stocked with Kokanee. Pollywog Pond was one of the easier access ponds because it was right off the main road with a huge campsite. We would 'troll' Lake Clear Wobblers with the canoe for Kokanee or would cast to the shore line with small Cleos or spinners for Brookies and Rainbows. After about three to five days of this, it was hard to come back to civilization! Even though I haven't been back there in about six years, my son has taken his sons there numerous times. The tradition continues!
  22. o.k.- Again, it's just north of the public boat launch, on the west side of the road. I would imagine that coral would do a number on an inflatable also!!
  23. Ray, While driving through Sodus Point yesterday, I saw a Zodiac (about 12 feet) on a trailer, just north of the public boat launch. They are asking $1,400 for it. It looks in good shape. If you are intrested, let me know and I'll get a few pictures, more details and a phone number for you. Jim
  24. Hi Tim, We also plan to run back to Oswego this a.m.. We're leaving around 5:30. We'll try to get you on your phone. You still have my number? If the weather doesn't look good, we'll stay in front of Port Bay. Mike and I fished in front of the chimneys yesterday. We were 3 for 4, all small guys. One nice color brown, one small atlantic, and two small kings. Chris Kenyon went out with us and had a decent king on. It got it to within fifteen feet of the boat, and it spit the hook. We guessed about 24 pounds, but they're always bigger when they get away!! Good fishing, Jim
  25. We heard all the big'uns were at Oswego, so today, Mike and I decided to make a run from Port Bay to Oswego aboard the 'Irish Wake'. ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 09/04 Time on Water: 6:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Weather/Temp: sunny- 68 - 78 deg Wind Speed/Direction: 5 - 10 mph / NW Waves: 1 - 2.5 Surface Temp: 74 deg Location: Oswego LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: all kings Hot Lure: Spin doctor green/green, hoochie white/white, e-chip green/green Trolling Speed: 1.9 - 2.9 mph Down Speed: ? Boat Depth: 85 - 140 fow Lure Depth: 80 - 100 down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We left Port Bay at about 6:15 and headed to Oswego. We set up in front of Rudy's (west of the college) about 7:00 and headed east. For a Friday, there seemed to be an awful lot of boat traffic. I don't think I've ever seen that many boats in one place before. Just after we finished setting up, our first hit came in front of the twin stacks on a White spin doctor w/ green spots and white fly, on a rigger, 80 down over 105 fow. Seemed like a nice fish, but only lasted about 20 seconds. At 9:30 in front of the five stacks, heading east, we landed and released a 18# king on a green spin doctor- green fly off the rigger in 112 fow, 95 down. We kept heading east and had two more misses (one on a green/green spinny on a dippsy out 270 and one on a white/green spot spinny green fly on a rigger, down 95) in front of the nuke plant. At 10:30, heading west, in front of the five stacks, we landed and released another 18# king. She hit a white hoochie mama/white fly on the dipsy, out 240. After that fish, it got quite. So around 2:30, we decided to pack it in and head back to Port Bay. We started to turn the boat east (with the wind) to bring in the gear, and the outside riggger fired. We landed and released a 23# king on a green/green e-chip down 90, over 130 fow, just east of the five stacks. So that encouraged us to hang around for an couple more hours - to no avail! So, we finally packed up and headed home. We hit Port Bay channel around 4:30 p.m. All in all, it was a great day on the water. Nice weather, Nice fishing, and great company. Marks on the screen were pretty steady all day, mainly 73 - 90 fow. And for all the boat traffic, there was very little conflict on who had the right of way. We stayed in 85 - 140 fow all day. We'll be back out today (Saturday), but will stay around Port Bay. Good fishing, Jim
