  1. I second spoonfed-1's recommendation. Hank is an excellent marine mechanic, and he's very reasonable. He's located at Port Bay, on West Port Bay Road, across from the Pier One Resteraunt. Call him at 315-558-4178. Jim
  2. Fire away McDragon. That's what this site is for- to make you a better fisherman. Jim
  3. Congratulations Lexie!! Beautiful fish!! It doesn't get much better than that! (Will maybe one a little bigger!) Jim
  4. That's a nice steelie!! I see he has the lead in the steelhead div. of the LOC. Good luck, Jim
  5. Boy, that's a shame Capt. Bruce. Maybe if you left them standing on the dock once or twice, that might get the point across. If I remember correctly, the same thing happened during the fall LOC about 6 years ago on a boat from the Sodus/Port Bay area where one guy 'forgot' to register and they landed a monster king (38-40 lbs.?) that would have taken the LOC with easily. A couple of the guys still aren't talking to each other. Jim
  6. Great report Tim. Nice looking ride. Now I'll know what to look for! Jim
  7. Fishing Report Your Name: jim Mehegan / Boat Name: Irish Wake ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 06/20/10 Time on Water:6:15 - 10:30 a.m. Weather/Temp:sunny (some clouds)- 70's Wind Speed/Direction:5-10 W/SW Waves: 1-2 feet early- then calm Surface Temp: 62 Location: in front of Chimney Bluf LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: 3 steelhead, 3 kings Hot Lure: just about everything Trolling Speed: 2.1-3.1 Down Speed: ? Boat Depth: 200-255 fow Lure Depth: 45-120 fow ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Things are looking up for the east end of the lake. The kings are finally shownig up. It wasn't spectacular, but a nice steady pick all morning. Mike (McCoy) and I started setting up in 200 fow, due north of East Bay. We were fishing two riggers and sliders with spoons, and two dipsies on wires running spin doctors and flies. The pattern didn't seem to make a big difference as long as it had green, purple or white in it. As soon as we finished setting up, the rigger down 45 went, and Mike brought in a 6 lb. steelhead. About ten minutes after that, the right dipsy with a white hoochimama/white fly out 245 feet went into scream mode. The fish ran out to 400 feet and separated fly from hoochi! (It had to be a real pig!) The rest of the morning went along pretty steady with hits and misses, nothing major until 10 a.m. One of the riggers down 80 feet with an NK watermellow fired. Mike grabbed the pole and held on. The fish made four major runs. As soon as it got close to the boat, it took off again. We were fishing with 12 lb. test, so Mike had to be cautious. I cleared the back of the other poles, and we finally got it into the boat. It was a nice king that weighed in at 20 lbs., 9 ozs. We figured 'what the heck', lets enter it in the LOC. It's not a leader, but it put Mike in eight place for a while. Sorry, no pictures. I forgot my camera, and my cell phone died! (Tim- Finders keepers- that's why no phone calls!) I can't wait to get back out there!! Jim
  8. Glad to hear you had a great day, Dick! When are you heading for Port Bay? Jim
  9. I'm sorry to hear about your mom, Vic. My prayers are with you and your family. Jim
  10. They were scattered. We marked fish and bait mostly hanging near the bottom like 53 down over 56.
  11. Hey Tim, Mike and I went out of Port Bay at 5:30 this a.m. and headed west. We started fishing in 10 to 15 fow with planers and flat lines with split shots. Managed two fish (see attached) This one hit a bomber long 'A' that was bigger that it was!! This was bigger, and hit a Yo-Zuri black/white! We then decided to pull everything and go deep. We set up in 150 fow just west of the Chimeny's with dipsies and riggers. This steelhead hit a NK28 watermelon down 40 over 160. About fifteen minutes later, Mike landed a small coho on a Stinger Emerald Shiner down 30 over 180. We'll be back out tomorrow a.m, and set up around 150 fow in front of the Chimney's. (The boat name is the 'Irish Wake'.) Give us a call. Jim
  12. I stopped in yesterday and picked up a couple spools of wire. I was impressed with the selection of 'stuff'! I'll definitely be back. Jim
  13. Hi Tim, I'll be going out of Port Bay this a.m. I'll let you know the results later today. Jim
  14. Since the park consists of a parking lot, a building with restrooms, a path to the lake and bluffs, and some picnic tables, people are parking on the road and walking in. The sign says 'closed'. It doesn't say 'no trespassing'! I imaging the restrooms are locked (that's where the big savings comes from!!), but there's plenty of dense brush around! Jim
  15. Well it happened. I drove past the entrance to Chimney Bluff State Park today, and its blocked off with wooden baracades with 'closed' signs attached. If I remember correctly, this will save the state around $8,500 this year. Go figure!! Jim
  16. Happy Birthday Dick! You're looking good for 70!! Here's hoping you have many more! Jim
  17. Kevin, what did you shoot that thing with?? All that's left is feathers!! Ha-Ha! Nice beard. How long was it? Jim
  18. Finally, the docks are in at Port Bay for the public launches at the north and south ends of the bay. The north end has good, deep water at the launch. The south launch is another story (see pic.). This time of year, the water should be up to that ledge! Jim
  19. I need to do my floor, too. Who carries it?
  20. Thanks for pointing it out Ray. I didn't notice the fly rod 'til you mentioned it!!! Jim
  21. Now I see what you were talking about this morning. That is HUGE!! Jim
  22. Good news- The proposal for offshore wind turbines off Wayne county was unanimously rejected by the Board of Supervisors 15-0. Here's the email I received about the meeting: It was standing room only at the Wayne county courthouse in Lyons tonight. Approx. 30+ people spoke on the NYPA offshore turbine issue but not all speakers were opposed. A few wanted the offshore wind and several wanted more info. When it came to a vote at the end of the meeting the Board of Supervisors were unanimous - 15 to 0 against NYPA and the offshore project. The Board was not happy that NYPA reps didn't attend the meeting. Some supervisors wanted to look into some offshore issues but the NYPA timeline made them feel there wasn't enough time hence the safest thing to do was vote against the offshore issue. One point brought out by a speaker was that turbines would be the site of graffiti - we never heard that one before but its got to be true. Channel 10TV had a crew there - maybe it will be telecast tonight. Rob Aliasso informs me that the April 12 NYPA meeting at MCC is full and cannot handle any more people. I had planned to attend but it now looks like I won't. Now we'll have to see what Monroe County will do about NYPA offshore issue - with time running out. Wait till the folks in Irondequoit and Greece begin to understand what offshore turbines are all about. Its kind of clear to me that NYPA is their own worst enemy & Kessel hasn't learned from his prior mistakes. Kessel himself is a major part of the problem.
  23. Thanks for the information Zach. I don't have a boat to to join the parade with, but do want to try off the shore. Good fishing, Jim
  24. I haven't fished the Oswego River for walleyes since I was a kid back in the late '50s. They disappeared for quite a few years due to river polution, but have come back now that the water has cleaned up some. I hear that they now have "Walleye Boat Parades" in the harbor most evenings while the run is on. Can someone tell me when that is roughly? Thanks, Jim
