  1. Hijacker-PC, Does the One LT apply to the 10th only or the two day event also? Are there going to be any other rule changes? Thanks Capt. Pete www.visionquestfishing.com
  2. Pete L., George and I are all very excited to be part of this year's Salmon School this month. We have the opportunity to meet new anglers, see some friends and talk fishing for a day in January. Good Stuff ! In 2013 I had the privilege of being part of the School along with another passionate "salmon head" from Oswego; A-TOM-MIK Tom Allen . It was a great experience for both of us and like many, I learned a few things from the whole experience. The best part besides being able to talk fishing for several hours was being engaged with anglers (new-young-old) in a variety of topics and techniques. This January, I have the chance to share the stage again with not one but two very good, dedicated and skilled Captains. See ya on the 23rd. Capt. Pete www.visionquestfishing.com
  3. Greetings fellow anglers and tourney competitors: I am looking forward to seeing many of you guys again this January at the LOTSA salmon School in Niagara Falls, NY. George Freeman from Ludington, MI has a lot to say about meat fishing and what they are doing "over there" to grind out boxes when fishing is tough. He's an old salt but has a different approach to fishing and fishing meat ! I have had the pleasure of having a beer or two with him and "picking" his brain over what the MI boys do to "produce". Why? because none of us are to smart or to old to learn a new gig ! Many of you know "Prime Time" Pete Lahosky from O'Town (Oswego, NY) Maybe some do not? but if you fished the Niagara Pro AMs in the 2000's (it is likely he mopped you up like he did me). Pete I.M.O. is one of the best and stealthiest-tactical anglers on all of Lake Ontario. I won't say that about to many guys but this guy has earned the respect of many! My part is simple: To help dial you guys in to catching fish and catching kings! North or south shore, doesn't matter to me. Kings are Kings and they have some tendencies, weaknesses and can be caught when in the right neighborhood. It is not luck that guys can consistently catch fish or kings. Like many of you, I don't fish every day on Lake O but I love to fish this Lake and want to get better at my game. I have a real job, family and life things to deal with. Sound familiar? However, there are basic things we do and have learned to help us find and produce fish. That opportunity to hear it will be this January. Remember: None of us will ever know it all but knowing some things will make every one of you a better angler or tourney guy and may help you grind those two or three extra fish! All of the speakers at the 2016 Salmon School are excited about this years event and are excited about supporting LOTSA. Furthermore, clubs like LOTSA rely on memberships, support and your participation to be a voice for us. This event is another way to support them and your interest in The Lake Ontario fishery ! Looking forward to seeing you there. Captain Pete www.visionquestfishing.com On Saturday January 23rd the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) is once again hosting its Salmon School. This highly successful School, in its 9th year, boasts six hours of instruction taught by three expert Charter Captains; Pete Alex (Vision Quest-Port of Wilson, NY), Pete Lahosky (Prime Time-Port of Oswego, NY) and George Freeman (Free Style Charters-Port of Ludington, MI). These three Captains have very successful Charter businesses along with a proven tournament track record of high placement over many years. They are a much diversified set of instructors and will provide a class full of insights and details that no one single instructor would be able to provide. They are all skilled educators with significant experience giving Seminars over the years. Each brings their own unique set of skills and knowledge to the class. Given the depth of the knowledge base of these instructors and their proven ability to educate Anglers, we expect this School to be the most comprehensive, in depth, information packed event ever presented at the LOTSA Salmon School. for more information and to register for the School, please visit the LOTSA Website at www.lotsa.org
  4. Thanks for posting scores Greg (good job at the recent A-TOM-MIK Invite). Tough fishing on the North Shore for this event and pre-fishing. This was our first August Tight Line "King of King" event and we were blessed to win the largest purse Salmon tourney on the Great Lakes. A big thank you to Big Jon Downriggers, Fish Hawk, Dreamweaver, A-Tom-Mik, Stealth Core and GAMMA lines for contributing to the win and for providing excellent and relable products. We were fortunate enough to land 9 salmon on 15 bites (missed 5 big guys ) and weigh our best 6 which totaled just under 110 pounds. Teams Yankee and Breakaway were right on our heels and congratulations to them also for going accross and figuring it out in short order. 10. Thanks and great job to Joe Yeager, Tim Bromund and all of the LOTSA volunteers. Also, to Bill Hilts for the time and effort to put this together again. (I understand how this works and its a lot of effort, energy and hope) It was good to see some familiar faces from "up there", share some fishing stories and say hello to some new and familiar faces. We will be back next year to support the event again. Thanks to all. Capt. Pete Great Lakes Tackleshop.com www.greatlakestackleshop.com
  11. Congrats to the check winners including SCREAMER Dave and crew for a great catch on Saturday and a great tourney season overall. Good call on making the home run jaunt east... Very nice event Tom and good work grinding out 4 fish on your home waters under GRIND-VAPOR bite conditions. The event ran well, meeting was quick, no issues, helpers were nice, etc... Oh yeah, the hot dogs, burgers, beverages were a nice warm up to a good dinner that followed. I did not leave hungry and Greg Dale was smiling the whole time. The only bummer was the fishing and lack of fish taken from the field of guys who ran 25 clicks to the east, west, fence and everywhere in between in search of more than a couple bites. Tough Bite in O'Town ! The weather was even awesome ! Capt. Pete Team V.Q.

  17. I talked to Bob Cinelli this AM and he said that the west end Cup will be paying the following pay schedule: MUST fish Niagara and Orleans events. It has zippo to do with east end events this year. It only pertains to the 12 fish division, NOT short box. Teams must enter that division as well as both events to qualify. He did not say that there is a certain minimum required for that pay out? 1st: $ 20,000 2nd: $ 10,000 3rd: $ 5,000 That's a sweet payout. That's all I know as of now and I am just posting this for information only. Any questions should be addressed to Bob or Bill Hilts. Capt. Pete Vision Quest

  20. LOTSA President Joe Yeagar just informed us that there were "ONLY" 10 tix left for purchase for this years event. Just an FYI for anyone on the fence. Goodie Bags: We are very pleased to announce that DREAMWEAVER will be providing a coupon for a free regular sized spoon and 8" standard Spinny again. This was a big hit in 2012. In addition, Deeper Divers (now owned by Grayden Outdoors, LLC-manufacturer of Fish Hawk Electronics) will be providing a std. Deeper Diver. To top off the bags, there will be items from A-TOM-MIK, Great Lakes Tackle Shop, GAMMA and..... Combine this with the free drinks and grub, all participants will have cost of admission covered in return for attending the salmon school on Saturday. Regarding the presentation, Tom and I are very excited and believe we will have something presentable and different in terms of presentation style and content. We are still going to talk riggers, divers, water, etc... However, we are going to provide the seminar in a manner that the eager to learn, weekend anglers, tournament anglers, serious recreational or even charter skippers will find useful under the same conditions that Tom and I face each time we frequent a different Port or go fishing after a week or two off the water. (that was a long sentence) Some of these experiences and learned items did not come easy and were not handed to us, it was a sink or swim experience most of the time. I can say that I sank at times early and had my frustrating moments with Lake O and figuring it out but after trial and error, being given some pointers and keeping a determined mindset, I was able to learn, improve and grasp many of the key items needed while fishing Lake O. One of the hardest things to do is take all of it and put it together. We feel this presentation may help. With regard to tourneys... Tom and I really get into these and are very competitive. We have been successful and have fished out of a variety of Ports at a different times of the season with success. Part of the seminar will be focused on tourney tips and tactics with some Q. and A. Participating in these against many seasoned, local Port hero's and full time captains (and tournament SHARKS as I call em), helped the learning curve. LOL, sink or swim again ! We believe that this presentation will definitely help the learning curve for a lot of anglers at a variety of angling levels and there may be a couple tourney tips that you walk away with. (From Tom of course-he owes me 2) Captain Pete Vision Quest
  21. Dan, I was sent the new Beta Fish Hawk this fall to try. It worked very well. However, the deepest we tried it in was in 60 f.o.w. When we had our ball down 58 foot, we would get a reading of 55 foot. 2 foot was blowback and 1 foot was the distance from ball to probe (dropper cable). It seemed accurate. I would only believe this would be worthwhile when fishing very deep. S.M.A. Capt. Pete
  22. "The Pennsyltuckians are gettin all fired up LOL" The Vision Quest Team (weekend warriors, part time Lake O. guys, semi-experienced salmon/trout fishermen and Pennsyltuckians) are in 100%!!!! Nice one Dave... Real Nice Capt. Pete Vision Quest
  23. Kevin, How many teams have put deposits in so far? Capt. Pete
  24. Good posts from all. Shade, thanks for your post, I know we talked in depth about some of this. Captain Rob-to clarify: Your short box or long box points will have "equal value" in the standings and payout. They also go toward the east/west and overall cups. So, you can win a Cup or the Overall Championship with combination of good long or short box placings or if you dominate one or the other. (This should make it even more appealing to teams that traditionally like to catch kings and land BIG fish regulaly) Captain Pete Vision Quest
