  1. Had an awesome day of jigging today. Launched at Dean's at 5:30 this morning and ran straight across the lake to what I think people refer to as Aurora? 5 minutes in we landed our first laker and it was a steady pick of lakers from 5:45 - 8:00. Ended the trip around 10:30 with 21 fish landed. 20 lakers from 24" - 31", and a nice brown. Around 9:30 I believe my brother hooked into a sturgeon. We had our drags set fairly tight, and it peeled almost 100 yards of line off the bait caster with its initial run. Got to the point where we had to chase it with the trolling motor before it spooled him. Thank you to the guy trolling solo that was gracious enough to pull everything in as we let him know we had one running towards the back of his boat. Unfortunately after a 6 or 7 minute fight, he broke off at the leader. Anybody else think it was a sturgeon, or something else? No head shakes, just a strong steady peel of drag. Anyways, it was a great day on the lake. 50-70 fow was where we caught most, with 60fow being the sweet spot. Lunkerr City chartreuse paddletails and white w/ chartreuse paddle were hot today. 2. Thank you! I will add a report after we get off the water tomorrow.
  3. Thanks everone for the advice! Les - Should I be worried about fleas on braid even with jigging, or is that more so a concern while trolling? If so, we will bring some reels with mono just in case. Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I currently have a HumminBird 597 ci HD w/ down imaging on my boat, and i'd like to learn more about how to adjust the settings for vertical jigging on the finger lakes for lake trout. I've always heard people say to look for marks on the bottom and to target those fish for jigging, but i'm not sure what settings are best to look for those marks on the bottom. Any advice, YouTube videos, or articles on how to adjust the settings on this particular model would be greatly appreciated!
  5. Thinking about making an early morning trip to Cayuga on Friday to do some vertical jigging for lakers. We can launch at either T-Falls or Dean's, but it sounds like this time of year Dean's is the best bet for lakers. Just wondering if anybody has been out jigging lately, and what depth we should start at?
  6. Now might be a good time to go buy a few lottery tickets!!
  7. Might be interested in this, have you used it in any of your salt water trips at all?
  8. Thanks for the response, i appreciate it! I have been looking at the Terrova quite a bit.
  9. Looking into possibly buying a new electric trolling motor for my parents Tracker Targa V18. The last few years they have really gotten into jigging on Cayuga and Keuka. I've heard a lot of people say that spot lock is a necessity when jigging, and I know what they mean when there is a breeze and you're trying to stay on top of the fish! What is a recommended brand/model trollin motor with spot lock that isn't going to break the bank? It might be used 10-15 times a year. They already have drift socks which do help, but want to get an idea of what it would cost for a new trolling motor with spot lock. Thanks! Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Congratulations to everyone that got it done this year, and thanks to Rob for another great thread. I look forward to it every year! Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I'm exciting to get into it a little more this year. Bought a bunch of gear last fall (decoy, headlamps, scope-mount lights, electronic caller). Last year i was using my 30-06, but a few months ago i won a .223 in a gun raffle, and i've added a bipod and one of the scope-mount lights to that. Can't wait to try it out soon.

  13. Congratulations to everyone that scored during the season! I finally decided it was time to put some meat in the freezer and took a doe tonight. Wasn't too hard following the blood trail. On a side note, I would like to buy a muzzleloader before next season, what does everyone recommend? Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  17. Good luck to everyone going out for the opener tomorrow, be safe! I'm sitting this opener out for the first time since I was old enough to hunt, but for a good reason! Currently just a few hours away from meeting our 4th child! Also, I'm aware that I have bad timing [emoji23] Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  19. Also bought four new cameras to put up on a different property closer to home. I've had them set up for just over a week now, and got a couple of nice ones on camera. Just wish i had checked that property out sooner, i would have been spending a lot more time there this season.
  20. Hate it when this happens! Shooter walked 10 yards broadside in front of the stand on 11/5 during the middle of the day, but as you can see nobody was in the stand.
  21. Nice job Whaler, congrats!! Sent from my SM-A505U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
