  1. It's always nice to tie a name with a face. Wish I had more time to talk my crew was pushing me along. How did you make out that day?
  2. The wife and I took a friend that moved up from Texas. Launched at T-falls around 6am and headed north. Three is a crowd in my boat but I quickly set up a 6 rod program that ran well and even looked good. First time I've ever done it. Can't wait for the three rod rule. Alot of short salmon but it was great to keep the newbie busy. Wires out 225-250 with FF combos worked early the Seneca special, Captain Valuim and green dolphin all took fish. Lakers up to 8lbs. Most of the action came off the riggers 40-60 ft free Sliders and main lines. All kinds of spoon colors. Although 3 color, 6 color and 300 copper all took fish. Today was my first ever grand slam!! Lakers, Landlocks, Bows and a little Brownie. The best though was when the Texan started handed rods back to me, his arms were sore!! We all had a great time and were off the water around 11. We ended 25/30.
  3. Sounds like an awesome trip. I think it's great that your saving that pig for the red cross. Nick will have to work hard to beat that one. Fished cayuga today that lake is easier and I had a newbie on board. I wish I could hit those bows like that.
  4. Sounds like a great time. Glad the kids went home tired. lol
  5. I dont have alot of experience with others. I know they are comparable to cannon mag 10 coming up but a tad slower going down. I've fished with Justin and his cannons. If that is a concern run lighter weights. But I have no complaints with my set up. They run smooth quiet and reliable. The only issue i've had is the sealant around the motor. Actually I think I ripped it my self knocking ice off it the silicon peeled back in one spot where the power wire enters the motor housing and when the motor filled with water and froze(early march this year) it slowed it down some. easy fix
  6. You guys never fail to amaze me. Always the first to try everything gotta get a binky now! The little one in the pic is adorable, is that a pole dancer in his mouth? Oh the kid is kind of cute too. It is great to see the little ones out on the water and to start an addiction at such a young age.
  7. I have two Big Jons on my 16ft. Best Investment I ever made. very reliable, very simple design I run 13lb torpedos down to 110ft all the time with no problem. They are the sportsmans with long arms and swivel bases and fit my boat perfect. I like the hands free up and down as I am the only one that sets lines I can deploy both sides at the same time and stop them where neeeded. Also easy to hit the button and have it coming up as you fight a fish. Mine don't have auto stop that would be a nice add-on. I bought mine of the site here also there are some good bargains out there and take very little to repair them if need be.
  8. Great report!! Sounds like its heating up. Can't wait to hit it.
  9. Thanks Jason for a great trip. That laker is by far my personal best, I wasn't going to give it up for anyone. couldn't believe the action we had going, I tried to hand you a rod and Justin snagged it first. haha
  10. Matt, you've found a great group of guys to learn from. They have helped me alot since I started trolling a few years ago. Couldn't do it without them. tried and almost gave it up.
  11. Great job on producing on a rough day for most.
  12. Yoda, Sounds like you have alot of fun though. 22lr is rimfire so it can't be reloaded. But I would start saving the rest. With ammo prices on the rise the last couple years I think alot more people are gonna start reloading. If your leaving it at the range chances are somebody else is making a buck off it. might as well be you right. Thanks anyway.
  13. I use alot of Spin Dr. and fly combos. Green on green and white on white are always go to set ups. Run them off your rigger 6-10ft back 75-100ft down any where from 2.0-3.2 SOG. I started trolling just a few years ago and know the phase your going through. If you have them run wire setups with dipsies. If you don't GET SOME!! Play with your colors match water clarity and weather. my fav. setup 4-5" tournament tied fly 16-24" stiff leader behind 8" spinny-5-7ft off black size 1 dipsy out 180-280ft on 2 setting and wire.
  14. Great report Sean. I hope we do half as good tomorrow.
  15. These are all great guns but the decision depends on your style of hunting. Long range shots the rifles mentioned above are great. 22-250 and .223 will knock'em as far as you can hit'em. .22-250 is much flatter and faster shooting. .223 is cheaper to shoot. If you hunt thick brush country don't overlook a good shotgun. amazing what a 12ga 3" in T shot will do. 4 buck is a good choice too. With a well patterned gun and a good choke you can head shoot'em like a turkey out to 45 yards. My favorite fox gun in the thick stuff I hunt is my SavageO/U in .22 mag/20ga take fox out to 100yds with the rifle and busted'em out to 35 with 3" BB loads. My newest and favorite toy is the AR15 I just built in .223. Hand loaded 55gr v-max putting 1" groups at 150yds. Get a lot of lead down range in a hurry to.
  16. I don't have a .308 yet so that is not on my list. maybe this time next year so don't get rid of it. Thanks mower.
  17. I know this is mainly a fishing site. But with rising prices I'm getting desperate. I'm looking for fired brass in .223 rem, .243 Win. , .44 rem mag. , .40 S&W, .22-250 rem. Must be usable for reloading; prices negotiable. Would be interested in unwanted reloading equipment? Thanks, Jim (607) 368-8478
  18. Good first trip. Boat must have ran good its a haul from severne to the salt plant. Looks like a great rig.
  19. Good report good first trip. It seems like we are all hiting fish the same way. Could be bad news if (when) they switch up, we will all be lost.
  20. Sounds great. Its always good when they have a heavy early run.
  21. I am an avid archer. I bow hunt much more than I think of gun hunting. I am pleased with the decisions made concerning the use of crossbows. If you are able to draw and hunt with a vertical bow than do it. Don't wimp out to higher technology for ease of use. I think the disabled laws could be more forgiving, for example seniors should qualify. Ny has had the disabled permit available for some time, but I have never known anyone to pursue one nor hear of anyone using one. Archery hunters are a rare breed in which some of us fight technology. Many of us have resorted back to longbows and shooting fingers and are not looking for newest toy on the market. I would like to see a week or two early season for just traditional archers. Say Oct 1-Oct 15 I'm trying to see both sides but cant justify using a shoulder fired trigger operated weapon outside of gun season. I would be very disappointed after the thousands of arrows I shoot in a year to EARN that early season to see someone take a X-bow out of the box and go hunting.
  22. How does Canadaigua's stocking levels differ from Seneca? Would love to seneca at that level.
  23. havn't received my diary yet either. Good thing i'm not catching many fish yet. I would def be willing to help out with anything I can. I do know there are some locals that will fight stocking catherine. Due to the pure wild strain of fish. I've had discussions on the creek with some people about it. I have always wondered how many fish die when spawning. Rainbows return to the lake and can spawn multiple times. But every year I find dead fish. These are mature spawned out (skinny) fish. Mostly females. Anyone have input on this.
  24. Been there a few times, great people. Glad to hear they are expanding thier inventory. probably due to LB88 alone.
  25. What about size changes. 20" min on all species kind of my self imposed limit anyway. I agree with lowering the RT limit in the lake. I've boated very few and dont target them because of thier numbers. 1 fish limit in the creek would really kick the non resident out. But would help the spawning population considerably. Try a few things as a pilot program maybe 3-5 years and see what makes a difference. I would love to be able to target them in a few years. allow 1 RT for every 35 suckers in the creek. I'm not a biologist just my ideas. Totally agree we need to help the rainbows.
