  1. leave your drag kind of loose not super loose and it will pull line. are you launching in watkins tomorrow? Do you have a radio? i'll be on 68 out of severne but can still catch some chatter from watkins. "Time Wasted" It is a tough time of year to start, early spring is best there. keep at it
  2. Great job with some quality fish. and all those bows
  3. Great job! Great pics! Those are some pigs. I wonder what the Fall Loc will find out there in the east.
  4. I don't have a probe. A good graph is more important. But with a good graph and the right settings you can see a thermocline when its set up. I Spent a week at the oak with my 16 fter, we fished 7 out of 9 days due to wind. Those seven days we did a min of 15 fish by 10:30 am running just 4 rods. find temp you will find bait, find bait you will find fish, once you find fish run big circles to figure out current direction. Most days a certain direction at a certain SOG would produce more. Down speed is important. If your spoons are spinning out your done, if they are falling dead your done. Zig and Zag is a good way to as mentioned. The temp is a good starting point but plenty come from out of temp especially when staging in the fall.
  5. Awesome job guys! It's great seeing 'em out there at that age. Smiles all around that's what its all about.
  6. I have a humminbird 597 ci hd. great little unit. It has a high power output for marking those deep fish. 5" color screen, GPS built in, very easy to use. This unit does not have the down imaging but i dont think its not needed for trolling. at $499 it was a great deal. The trick to any FF is setting the transducer at the right angle.
  7. That's to bad you couldn't weigh them. Great pics and great story! My steelie might stick it out at 12lb 4oz
  8. I run 13lb torpedos with mine the factory 8 amp breaker with no issues.
  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Time Wasted ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water:7:00am-12:00 every day Weather/Temp:hot sunny Wind Speed/Direction:light and varible Waves: 1ft or less Surface Temp: 69-71 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 16;18;16 Total Boated:8;10;12 Species Breakdown:steelies, king, cohos, atlantic, lakers, browns Hot Lure: later gator stinger, 42 second, die hard NK Trolling Speed: 2.4-3.4 Down Speed: IDK Boat Depth: 130-180;150-210;160-250 Lure Depth: DR@65-101 wires out 230-300 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Decided to skip the Red cross Derby back home and go north. Registered for the LOC friday night. Up at 4:00am 2.5 hr drive to the Oak. While getting the boat ready I found the power cord had been pulled from my port side rigger and the circuit breaker was cooked. Great! Decided to fish anyway and fix it later. We launched about 7:00 ran to 120Fow started setting up. 2 rods in and was setting the 3rd when my one rigger pops. I reeled it up tight as the fishh was on a cheater and handed it to the wife. The fish now sit at 11th for browns 15lb 2oz. Fished the rest of the morning with 2 dipsies one rigger and a junk line. 300 copper saw fish as did a 6 color. later gator, die hard, NBK Talk to Dave chilson from the LOC at Narby's weigh in, told the issue with my rigger. He made some phone calls and saved the day. He picked up the part and delivered it back to Narby's in his runs with enough time to fix it and hit the lake in the evening. Thanks Dave We hit a 14lb king off that rigger the biggest of our trip so far Steady pick the rest off the time with kings around 10lbs lost some screamers, can't seem to keep'em buttoned up. I see from the post I'm ruuning my wire too deep hoping to find some more screamers and maybe land one for the LOC. Thanks for your help guys. I come Up once a year and manage to get a few just from watching these pages. 7/11- Went back out for a pm troll. Ran the wires at 175-190 and riggers at 44 and 52. Did 7 fish in about 1.5 hours. Including a 12lb 4oz steelie for the LOC board and a 13 lb king. still looking for a major.
  10. Sounds great! Keep the action coming! I'll be there next week gonna need a good starting point. Life will be good as soon as I get out of work!
  11. I rutinely run a 300 copper on the finger lakes, it is the longest one I have. I've heard good results from the longer coppers on the big pond. So my question is what is a good guess to get it down to the 400's depth. -100ft of copper= 22ft depth -300ft of copper =66ft depth -400ft of copper=88ft depth -450ft of copper=99ft depth -300 copper+100ft of braid backing= how deep? (75-80ft?) I know there is no precise answer and alot of variables(i.e. speed, lure, line type, etc.) looking for a good guess. If this is doable what is the bare minimum backing to leave on the reel. (fighting room)
  12. Big jon also runs a spring belt try them.
  13. Finished the new floor in the boat sat afternoon tried it out today. launched at severne around 6am and started north in 200 fow. went far enough to catch some weeds south of long point. Headed back south and found a nice group of fish straight out in front of the launch. took alot of hits on the riggers 40-60 down. Main lines and free sliders. mixed bag of lakers and LL. Took one bow on a 3 color leadcore. a small green and blue on copperback took half the shots today. The wife and i had a great time and almost everything ran fine after being tore apart. Finished around 11:30 went 11/14
  14. I was hoping for a big LL in the pic. Even better a real nice Bow. Great job!
  15. Nice report. Even with all the one that got away stories. my new Humminbird is working great I love it. 597ci HD the ducers are a bit tricky to setup though. took me a few tries to get it zeroed in. hope you get yours workin.
  16. loosen the dipsy. if the dipsy is too tight your line wont give when the fish hits. It needs to pop open as the fish hits. I've never lost a flasher from a hit. Set your drag just tight enough to keep it from clicking out. 1-2 clicks every couple min. is fine. sounds like your drag is way too tight. by the way what colors are you using?? Is the 20lb mono or flouro
  17. Easy now. One step at a time. It has passed in both houses as stated, the next step is Cuomos desk (max 10 days there). Zeke has been top notch feeding us info on this. Nobody else has called Libous office to check on it. Thanks lyteline Once you get the three fly rods down try spey casting
  18. Thanks for the update! Been watching this close and hoping it goes through. What effect will this have on tournament rules? some state the max number of rods.
  19. Nice report! I've got to put my boat back together and get out there this weekend.
  20. I run 30lb mono between my diver and flasher. This line is the one to break if any. If you put your 20lb between flasher and fly you will loose alot of action from your fly. The #1 reason to run the 50lb fluro on the fly is the stiffness it has throws the fly around. I have lost flasher and fly setups and it does suck but I have never lost a dipsy. But I think you'll hurt your setup any other way. The best way to keep your gear is to use your drag. The ones I have lost were all snagged on bottom. I dont run a snubber. I think that is a different topic.
  21. keep those reports comin. I'm headed up in a few weeks and need all the help I can get. Thanks Guys. Great job. Itchin to go fishin!
  22. I wish the united states were this tight on our borders.
