  1. Jack, a grease trap is a "gang" minnow style of mylar minnows flasher made by Big Weenie http://www.bigweeniebrand.com/Home_Page.html , there other styles out there too, 6 pack schoolies, made by Luhr Jenson, the Stinger company makes 1 too, that's what I use because that's all Hills, Valley's & Streams had at the time, but they are all the same concept. Hope this helps
  2. Freshwatermodels, I use a 4/0-5/0 EWG worm hook, & I tie them "Thundercreek" style, reverse epoxy head, but I imagine any style bucktail tie would work seeing as how they all represent "minnows", just think sawbelly/alewife size, I know your a fellow tyer ( the Thundercreek series is now on-line and still in print) Key is the white belly I think, anything goes for the top, greens chartreuse, blue........I had good luck on Keuka with them behind a grease trap style set-up
  3. Wire rod, Dipsey, Spin Doctor, Fly...........but I'm a rookie
  4. Pfffffft ! what do wives know ........as he quickly looks around to see if his wife is reading over his shoulder ...Damnit Sk8man, your making this "thing" another piece on my boat !

  10. Just saw on TV that Hills, Valleys, & Streams has a satellite store at the Mall, YESSSSSSSSSS kept getting the "wrinkle nose" from my kid(s) & wife every time I mentioned gift certificate......."wrinkle nose" was because of the drive to the "South side", who's running that store Mike ?
  11. GREAT Day !, GREAT report .........someday I want to be just like you Mike...........at least the single part
  12. ............sorry I didn't post pictures during it's construction
  13. Jack, Jason's helmet holds his Go-Pro video camera, yet another trolling "got to have" item...........did you get your fish tie yet ?
  14. Just remember this Jack............ALL trout in ALL the streams will eat a beetle pattern splashed noisily on the surface near the bank , this trolling stuff ain't so different, just bigger tippets ..........by the way, you do not have permission to use my name or statements from me in a book
  15. @ Jack.............nothing is iron clad..............look at Jason
  16. Jason on "MY" flies I use 3 beads in between the two hooks, I built a lot with glow or 1 glow & 2 the color of the fly, THEN I like to use a red faceted bead in between the front hook, which has a glass rattle in a vinyl tube, and the fly head, which is generally clear, I didn't find out they had colors till after I tied a bunch, I ALWAYS use a red thread to tie the "reversed" material, which gives the fly a "fuller" appearance, I lay a even thread base, unsure of the count on the wraps, I will count them the next time, to finish I use a clear lacquer..........2-3 coats........Hope this helps Jason........I will never understand why Mom liked you best
  17. .............I'm already thinking I put mine away too early , Nice report !
  18. Well, like I told you when you first asked me this question "my layout" goes by the length of my pole, for netting purposes , lets start with the "tournament tie" fly leader http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video2F.html that is attached to the Spin Doctor, then the distance from the Spin Doctor to the Dipsey is what ever the distance that is left to the tip of my pole
  19. Anyhow went to Keuka Lake, AFTER my partner decided to go deer hunting and canceling a Cayuga Lake adventure, left Horseheads @ 6:10, made it to Keuka State Park @ 7:10, figured I would go to a lake I'm familiar with AND with the weatherman's promise ( only job I know where you can be WRONG 100% percent of the time & still have a job) of winds gradually coming up to 5 MPH throughout the day I figured I could get some jigging in figuring this would be my last trip out this year, .......nope I have been on this lake with 11 MPH + winds & today was worst than that !, only 1 other pilgrim out this morning, "back troller", name on his boat, he said his "weatherman" said 6 MPH winds, let him launch first, see how he made out with a South wind blowing up the launch, just him & his dog, he did alright, & I launched after he left...........another first for me........wave action will loosen a "knot" on a cleat ......by the time I parked my truck, my boat was "beached" sideways in the launch >sigh<, of course the "calm", grumble, grumble, grumble South winds are now forming white caps , got her straightened out & despite HUGE urges to trailer her, I did get out.........took a beating, took 2 lakers using only 1 wire rod/ dipsey, all I could get out alone,(my boat is LOOSE !) usual magnum Dipsey set on @ #2 setting green glo frog racer Spin Doctor being chased by a Reel-Hooked Up fly set back 300', FF lit up from 107'- 137', did get 1 photo in between swells of FF screen the other "pilgrim" & I were both on our trailers by 9:30 let's see, up early, fresh air, turkey filled with tryptophan, yeah I should sleep easy tonight Hope EVERY BODY had a HAPPY & SAFE THANKSGIVING
  20. Cool video Mike, "ofishally" subscribed to on the "tube" keep up the GREAT work, reports & HELP !
  21. Anyhow left Horseheads @ 5:15AM, was @ Keuka State Park boat launch @ 6:15/20ish, and rigged up the boat among 1/2 dozen plus bass boats, WE were first in , as we set up for our pass at the 2 story cottages on East side, the bass tournament officially started , now I understand that Keuka isn't that large of a lake, but I think courtesy of fellow fisherman ..............been said before.............I digress. They were calling for South winds @ 11MPH, it was ALL of that at start Of course this time I brought jigs, but alas bow electronics, motor & another fish finder won't happen till next April, & the "drift" was too fast The lake eventually had white caps on it when the Sun did break through but they could have been from the numerous bass boats zooming ALL over the place............... We did bring home 9 standard Keuka Lake size lakers, 18+ "'s, released easily that amount that were smaller, & had 4/5 empty releases/unofficial catch & release half way ins All our fish were caught mostly in 135, 142, 165 FOW zone(s) East side, West side, crossing the lake on magnum Dipsey Divers, set on a #2 setting, 60', 300', 350' back dragging the usual glow frog yellow racer Spin Doctor being chased by a Reel-Hooked Up fly, and a green dolphin on chrome Spin Doctor being chased by a XXXstreme glow Lap Dance fly......downriggers didn't join in on the fun mostly just because I wish I bought more Dipsey rods.............just saying............that & my partner Frank Rosplock, who I have nick named "O'neill" since November 1ST has a tendency to "lasso" port, starboard, and everything in the middle when he is driving...........and the fact that the wire rods kept us busy enough
  22. Before you consider dipsey setups or leadcore take the time to check out your boat and the rod holder setup both those options produce substantial drag on the line, rods and holders. Make sure you have holders that permit various angles, are firmly anchored in the gunnels or transom and test them out and test them out beforehand to make sure of clearances etc. Once you get a handle on these basics move up to the stuff you can decide what (and if) you need to get down to the preferred depth ranges duringthe summer and late Spring months. Best of luck with your upcoming adventures ! Les on the rod holder ! GREAT POINT Les ! http://www.traxstech.com/Individual_Rod_Holders.html <------very happy with, course my boat came with their track system, 24" and underneath support plates, I just had to buy the 2 swivel down-rigger mounts & 2 of their rod holders, pricey, but a GREAT investment
