  1. ............. there's a fella by the name of "erabbit" on here, GREAT fisherman, a plethora of knowledge,........... you DO NOT have to wear a "tie"......just saying
  2. When my boy was out of diapers and able to communicate his needs with words, hungry, thirsty, gotta poop etc. etc., we would take our 12' Jon boat w/ a 15 HP Merc to a local lake & pick out what we thought was a "good spot" & drown bait & throw hardware, if we didn't catch anything we would move to a spot that maybe HE thought was where the "big ones" were and that's how we "fished".......we ALWAYS brought home something THEN I bought a Hummingbird fish finder, and then what we did was drive around the lake looking for the fish long story short my boy quit fishing because we were no longer "fishing" Here we go, I too wanted to try trolling, the bug bit me hard, and like you, not a lot of $ to throw at it, I think my very first welcome to LOU was from Ray, his welcome to the site was "Welcome to buying more stuff". I have been on LOU for 3 years latching on all the free info, willingly given by true professionals OVER AND OVER AGAIN , I took 2 (?) trips on the "Reel-Hooked Up" charter service with Sean Brown, neighbor & willing teacher anyhow I digress.......Sean found me a deep vee for $3750 (S.O.B. wouldn't come off that $50 dollars either ) I then sunk another $5000 in it in rods, reels, down riggers,( I can count on 1 hand how many "dink" fish I have caught on 2 Cannon -5somethings VHF radios & the best antennas, wire rods, down rigger rods, dipsey divers, spoons, flies, spin doctors, a fish hawk X4 something, yes I can tell you the temp down there & the speed at the ball ????????? Lowrance elite 5 chart plotter/ fish finder......the list is endless of what I bought and thought I had to have >sigh<. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying my new sport........this year was my very first year with ALL my equipment ---------> "IN MY HONEST OPINION"<--------- If I was to start ALL OVER again, the same boat would be bought (I would so beat him out of that $50), I fish with 1 friend, so I would get the best & biggest chart plotter/fish finder that I could afford,( I probably would have went with a -, a good electric trolling motor, 6 wire rods,(don't forget about fleas ) and 2 jigging rods, all the colors of Spin Doctors that you see recommended here, & the flies & spoons that are also recommended, & a handful of jigs. Remember "we" are not charter captains ( the charter captains on here, NOT a jab by any means) and remember the beginning of my very long "fish" story and don't forget to "fish", stay safe and ENJOY ! (Keuka is a GREAT learning lake ! ...........Welcome to buying more stuff
  3. Geeeeeeeeeezus if King sees this Erabbit won't be buying just himself ties
  4. Mike, it was "o-dark 30" when I launched, I keep telling myself to note the start time, Hell last time I forgot to undo the stern straps..............Anyhow I was on my 2ND pass between the 2 3 story cottages before I saw any year round cottage dwellers turn on any lights and a school bus come down the East side. Treerat I love Thursday's on Keuka few people, GREAT colors ! on the fish & trees ! Don't forget your Dad ! Ed we all know your a tie guy ..........LMAO still laughing at the me running thing
  5. Why you all be hatin on my hat .............me running ? besides if I ever got in that barn my name would be spray painted on the boat...........how come your name ain't on her Jason ?
  6. Well I went 6 for 7 lakers today, brought 4 home, got up a little early, first time fishing with the NAV lights & a flashlight, turned out to be another great day, gotta remember to pack the jigs !, today's depths were 134, 154, & 167 FOW, stayed on the East side between the 2 3 story cottages, today's players were a Green Dolphin on chrome Spin Doctor w/ a Lap Dance Xtreme glow fly, a clear green w/ crush glo Spin Doctor with a fly I tied & a glo frog racer Spin Doctor w/ a Reel Hooked Up fly all on Dipsey Diver's set back 180' (60' depth ?) 2.3 MPH on the GPS. Buried a 4/0 Octopus hook into my finger, to make matters worse the treble of the same fly was in the roof of the mouth of a large and lively lake trout AND the netting of a fully extended net, "we" were "stern" the needle nose pliers were in the "bow" oh yeah and partnerless, STILL all and all a good day on the trailer & pulling out of Keuka State Park @ 10:16...............5 minutes later flat tire on the trailer................STILL a good day
  7. Seneca looked purty on my way back from Keuka
  8. Ed..................IT WAS THE TIE !!
  9. Good Report !, yep ! Gotta love Keuka ! especially this time of year ! apb I'm glad Keuka worked out for you ! it's a real morale booster, an easy lake to fish and learn on ! treerat, my partner, Frank & I will be hitting it this coming Thursday remember the 5 laker limit has taken effect
  10. Gotta love fall fishing.............AGREED no water skiers, no jet skis, leaves changing, go during the week (my day is Thursday, most weeks) & there's a good chance you'll have the lake to yourself...........almost......... & those sharing it with you are the "respectful" kind, Yep gotta love the Finger Lakes this time of year
  11. Left Horseheads @ 5AM, @ Keuka State Park, rigged, and unloading boat into water @ 6:20AM.................after 20 minutes of trying to get bow of boat back on a floating trailer, my partner now has the job of remembering to take off the stern straps ...........remember this is my first year "Blue Bird" day today with a lake of glass, and MANY MANY but small to middling lakers willing to play "catch" , same FF screens that were evident last week were still there this week, 120 - 150' FOW, top to bottom fish arcs, 40' to the basement EVERYTHING caught a fish, down riggers w/ spoons, rotten veggies, Rapala's, & the usual Spin Doctors, Glo Frog Racer / Green Dolphin on chrome, w/ Reel Hooked Up and Lap Dance Xtreme Glo flies..............WOULD HAVE been a GREAT day for jigging !...........had I brought them On the trailer & heading home @ 11:36......"fishless"....Frank kept tossing 18-20" fish back thinking we would get "bigger" Come October 1ST w/ the new 5 fish limit, these things become "perch fillets" to me .............NO ties were worn today
  12. Nice job Ed..............wheres the tie ?
  13. ..................besides, could you really come home without a child ?
  14. all boaters on recreational watercraft less than 21 feet in length – including motorboats, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and sailboats – must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) from November 1 to May 1 on New York waters. PFDs must be worn year-round by all children under 12 years of age on any boat less than 65 feet in length, unless within a fully enclosed cabin; by anyone towed, such as water-skiers or wake-boarders; and while on board a personal watercraft. Otherwise, a PFD must be available for every passenger on board every vessel, including no-motorized watercraft such as canoes, kayaks and rowboats. Hope this helps
  15. Happy Birthday ! ya brown trout slayin tie wearer, ENJOY YOUR DAY !
  16. I'm not set up for jigging Alec,(yet ) except on rare calm days (no electric motor), BUT I try to hit Keuka every Thursday, unless the 5 day forecast says another day is better, I have a old friend I fish with, but there's enough room for a third if you don't mind down riggers & Dipsey Divers, you know your welcome to join in, & you know how to reach me
  17. Son-of-a ............... nice Ed..........nice tie
  18. Semperfi, what are you running boat wise ?, I was there today too, my plan was to run to the bluff & troll back with the wind, but once I hit the first 3 story, all deck cottage on the East side my Lowrance lit up big time with arcs so I stayed down there. When I was leaving 3 vehicles carrying large flat bottomed skiffs were unloading, all of them were driving Pennsylvania Municipality vehicles, one was carrying portable electric generators on it, I know Keuka (or I heard I guess) is the/a breeding grounds for lakers for all of NY lakes ? (anybody?) I was wondering if these guys were shocking ?, did you happen to run into them ?
  19. Seneca ?!?!?!?.............why the perch hitting ?
  20. Wednesday, visited Hills, Valleys, & Streams to pick Mike's brain on copper rods, pulling copper, Seth Green rigs........& to pick up a terribly missed friend, a "glow frog racer Spin Doctor & a black mag Dipsey Diver(he had purple, I had black spray paint) to which I added a "Reel Hooked Up Fly" (NOTE TO SEAN BROWN: haven't I mentioned this fly enough to get "freebies"?) Anyhow speed forward to today on Keuka, left the homestead (Horseheads) @ 5:08AM, was driving out of Keuka State Park @ 8:38AM with 3 for 5 trout, caught on the above flavor & a Green Dolphin on chrome Spin Doctor being chased by a "Lab Dance XXXtreme glow" fly, went down to a 1 rod day because of a 9MPH South wind, being alone, & the fact that if you had a dead cat with trebles on it you would have caught fish "THEY" were EVERYWHERE !
  21. Nice Job ! lake looked beautiful too ! My partner & I decided we needed some more "humbling" so we went to Seneca.......... 1 small LL , NOT complaining though ANY time on the water is a GOOD time, BUT you fishing & camping with your Dad, that's a BIG plus ! GOOD for you guys !
  22. Those be #2's on the 1 OZ. ear ball jigs..............& also on the shad spoon jig come to think about it, the fly tyer in me says the treble must be dressed & since there's this stuff http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/glow.htm , just more "confidence" for me
