  1. I have probably taken close to 40 deer in my 20 years of hunting and have made several different shots on them but the ultimate best shot is broadside behind the shoulder but having said that, I have taken many shoulder shots and they do work well depending on the direction the deer is facing but I always try for the behind the shoulder shot first. I have also shot a few deer straight on in the chest and it put them down fast but definetly not my first choice. I consider myself to be a very good shot and always have a lot of confidece when I pull the trigger but for a new hunter I always tell them to do just a behind the shoulder shot. It all depends on the situation and and how well of a shot you are I think but never take a crappy shot just because it is the only one you have, just let it walk there is nothing worse than wounding a deer it kind of gives you a sick feeling at least it does to me.

  2. Great deer! Its tough with a pistol I have a ruger blackhawk 44 mag that I have been trying to get a deer with for years. I have shot many deer with all other types of weapons, bow, muzzle loader, rifle, and shotgun but no pistol kill yet. Congrats.

  3. Yeah I would love to find some other swamps to hunt but I am not sure where to start. I have been hunting a local swamp in scriba that just is not producing at all this year. It really sucks because I just got a yellow lab puppy and want to use him for next years hunting but I need a place that actually has ducks to train him well. I guess I have a lot of work to do for next year. Any one know of any good duck swamps around this area or not too far away?

  4. Nice buck and congrats! My 3D target got destroyed about a week ago behind my friends house. It got ripped in half, the ear was broke off and it had holes in the neck from antlers!!!! The rut is really on now.

  5. Every one that I know that hunts ducks including myself says the duck hunting is terrible this year. Last year opening day I saw a couple thousand probably, this yaer maybe a couple dozen opening day. Every day continues to get worse with less and less duck sightings. I hunt in central ny and so do my friends. Is anyone having the same problem? Not sure whats going on this year. Yesterday afternoon I saw only one duck!!!!!

  6. That's hilarious runnin rebel! Yeah that may be a new trend in deer hunting now, lol. This deer was actually at my truck drinking beer with me and when he least expected it and got intoxicated I shot him, poor old deer. He still had a can underneath him as evidence.

  7. Just thought I would post a pic of a really nice 8 pointer I got the third day of southern tier bow season. It was a very large bodied deer it dressed out at 183 lbs. I was unable to bow hunt the first two days of the season because saturday I was up north muzzle loading and sunday I was hanging a tree stand for bow season so monday I was ready and after being in my stand for only 30 min this nice buck came right to my stand to within 5 yards then turned and started to walk away and stopped at about 15 yards and gave me a great quartering away shot. It went about 100 yards then stood up on it's hind legs and fell on his back, boy what a site that was. The rack would have been perfect but one point on his right side was shorter than the other, only about an inch. It was a little over 20 inches wide.

  8. I was at the dam today and there were not many fish there at all. I saw a few fish get caught but not many. People need to understand that when the alarm sounds off that the water level is rising to get the hell out fast. I watched several people ignore it and I know at least one had to get rescued after I left. IT IS NOT WORTH RISKING YOUR LIFE TO CATCH A FISH. Be safe out there guys.
