  1. I find that if you are going really fast....like 3.5 mph or higher you get so much deflection in your downrigger that it changes the angle of the water hitting the paddle. This makes it read like 2 mph when you are actually doing 4 mph. You can avoid this by running a 15 or 20 lb weight If you are running an 8 or 10 lb it will probably happen every time.
  2. No...I am being told the same thing. I ordered mine in July and am still waiting. I don't care as long as I have it by Mid March.
  3. Man, those Salmon are fattening up nicely!
  4. I usually fish between 2.0 and 2.5 at the ball but not when running cowbells. I think cowbells work a lot better when running about 1.5 - 1.75 or so. I like to run bigger spoons and flasher fly so that I can cover more water. Cowbells catch a lot of fish but they are a pain in the arse to reel in and it seems you have to run slow to catch fish with them. Running that slow you cannot cover nearly the same amount of water as running 2.5. I think water temp is a little over rated when they are aggressively feeding. I catch them in 40 up to 55 and occassionally in 60 degree water. I usually see them on my finder sitting on the bottom or suspended in anything less than 55 degrees. Best thing to do is...if you aren't marking fish and/or bait....move and find it.
  5. We hit the lake pretty hard both Saturday and Sunday and fish just about all day both days. Started at Dean's Cove, tried North and found all water to be 62 degrees plus. Even at 100' down. Went down between Dean's and Sheldrake on the the West side and di pretty good on Saturday. probably landed 20 or so but all were 5 lbs and below. Mostly lakers and a few Salmon. Sunday morning grabbed a few just North of Sheldrake but no size to them either. Sunday afternoon went South of Sheldrake and Hammered them for a few hours. Size picked up and our largest was 7 1/2 lbs. Also landed a huge one that only weighed about 6 lbs. His head was bigger than the 7.5 lb laker and he was about 3 inches longer. It had an obvious lamprey mark on it and I think that eel just sucked the life out of him and made him really skinny. I was not too happy that I waited until Sunday afternoon to fish that spot because I truly believe that I could have gotten on the board with the sizes and amounts we were starting to catch Sunday afternoon. We did catch this really cool looking Laker with Syracuse Orange tail and fins. This pic does not do it justice because the fins and tail were literally as bright as the logo on a Syracuse Orange uniform.
  6. Cayuga would be my choice also. This time of year is great. Mid summer is probably worst due to fleas.
  7. The Balls Deep is in for the duration. Fish have moved from 10 days ago. All those hot spots 2 weeks ago are gone. I fished mine on Sunday and found all the bait and the fish GONE. I did find the bait and the fish at the end of the day but I'm not telling
  8. Was fishing Cayuga on Sunday and couldn't believe the amount of fleas. They have been almost gone for about 3 weeks and now all of the sudden they are back with a vengeance. I don't ever remember them being around this late in the year. Any idea what made them come back?
  9. Green, Green, Green. Green spoons and Green flashers and flies always go. I usually run about 2.3 SOG. If running 4 rods, run 2 riggers with spoons down 80 and 90 then run slider cheaters on them with smaller spoons...2.75" max. Then run 2 divers out about 250 with green flasher/fly...that way, you have 6 lures in the water. I find flashers to be more active off divers than riggers. You can try other colors but greens, blues, silver always seem to work good for me. Adjust your depths up and down if fish are not hitting. I was out last weekend with my uncle and we were trying to troll back to our honey hole. I picked up my speed to 2.5 - 2.6 in order to get there quicker and within 1 minute of my uncle saying "we are going too fast" a 6 lb Rainbow hit my port diver and a 5 lb laker hit my starboard diver. Port side was a magnum diver out 230 with a spin doctor mtn dew glow with a mostly white Big Weenie fly. The other side was out 260 with mtn dew SD with a green atomic fly. No matter what you are doing, you have to find the fish and then you have to entice them to bite. Sometimes they just shut down but if you've been out a few times and cant get anything to go, you have to change something. P.S. I'd stay away from lead core until you dial in these other things. Lead core seems to work better early spring or mid Fall when the water cools down. P.P.S. I've been hammering them on Green Dolphin and Blue Dolphin Magnum sized spoons lately off the rigger around 80 - 90 down.
  10. The only chance the Seneca Boys have is if they land 2 or 3 50lb Sturgeon
  11. Roll call... Who will be fishing out of Sampson? I will be there on the "Balls Deep" at about 7:15 am with Zebedee.
  12. Yep, that is a no brainer Brown Trout. Way too brown for a LL and also the tail is square. The salmon have a very definate forked tail whereas the brownies are very squared off. In the Spring in Lake O, you will catch some really silver colored brownies that look a lot like LL Salmon.
  13. Taughannock state park rents them. As long as your boat is small enough to fit under little bridge in marina. My 22' Trophy fits under it with about 1 foot to spare. Park may even be closed after labor day in which case it might be free
  14. Barry, I think we would have tied on that side bet up until noon. At that point, our heaviest was a 5lb 0 oz. Bow. We stayed out and kept hammering them all day. Cayuga is Unreal! I guess I'm going to go over to that crappy Seneca on Saturday to fish the last day of the league. I'll probably catch half the amount and half the size but it will be a challenge....maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
  15. Two other spoons that have been hooking the bows lately for us are the 2.75" - 3" glow in the dark wonderbread and the watermelon spoon. Also, I am running Walker size 124 Magnum divers on my wire rods. They get really deep but are a beast to reel in. They are like a 2.5:1 ratio so if I am out 250, they are 100 down. We had a little bet with Yukonstu and Shaky Mike aboard the Gunboat. I think it was a tie at 5 lbs by noon. We caught the bigger fish after noon. I also noticed lately that fishing has been great when there is cloud cover. When it is sunny and clear it has been a lot harder....but you still can catch them.
  16. That bow is a Beast....Man, I am jealous.
  17. Fished Monday from about 7 am to 4 pm. Started out really slow as I was in the wrong area for about an hour or so. Pulled up lines and headed to my new Honey Hole. Started getting into the fish around 8:30 and just plain hammered all day. Boated about 15 or 20 but lost at least another 10 or 15. Rainbow and LL bite is really hot right now. Only caught 5 or 6 lakers. Caught a 5lb rainbow, a 6 lb rainbow, a bunch of LL Salmon about 18-19" and a bunch about 17" as well. We had two more Rainbows on and jumping that were in the 5-6 lb range but they got away. They are so much fun when they hammer that slider and come flying out of the water. Our biggest laker was only 6 lbs but it fought all the way to the net. We had 3 doubles and one of them was the 6 lb Rainbow and a 5 lb laker....both on magnum divers out about 250 feet That was pretty tricky reeling them both in, driving the boat and netting with just two people. It was really funny that the rigger bite was hot in the morning til about noon then the diver bite got hot in the afternoon. Hot lures.... Mtn Dew SD's with green Atomik fly and white Big Weenie fly wire out 240 and 275 on mag divers #2 setting. Riggers down 80 and 90 with Mag Blue Dolphin and Mag Green Dolphin. Sliders had NBK and Green/Silver NK 28. My Uncle from out of town kept saying all day "Wow, this lake is unbelievable!" Here is the 6lb Bow with a slight hook jaw! The pic does not do this pig justice.
  18. No doubt a few can be caught but everyone I listened to on the radio were reporting 1 fish here and there but nobody that was talking slammed them...including the charters that fish there every single day. I'm fishing out of Port Ontario this weekend...we'll see what happens. If I don't get any, I'm throwing on my waders and fishing the river with my noodle rod.
  19. Went out Friday and Saturday evening and had a great time both nights. We probably caught 6 or 7 each night and lost another 4 or 5 each night. The highlights were these two Rainbows one each night. First night was a nice 6 lb that was taking drag and going nuts. The second night we landed this "crooked" 5 1/2 lber with the assistance of Yukonstu's daughter Michaela. She had fun fighting this one.
  20. I'm so frustrated with the Eastern end of Lake O. We fished Sodus Friday and went 3 for 3 all about 4-6 lbs...Coho and two Steelies. Went back out Sunday for 10 hours and went about 0 for 8 all hit and runs...nobody home. We had one Big king hit on a diver that ripped about 20-30 feet of line then let go. We pulled it in and it had bent the hook. We fished every range from 60 feet early out to 500 feet Saturday afternoon/evening. 6 or 7 miles offshore, the water wasn't flipped and all screwed up like it was near shore but we couldn't get much going and didn't mark much. It is sad that I can mark more fish and bait in Cayuga Lake in about 15 minutes than I can in 10 hours on the Eastern end of Lake O. Next year, I'm going to spend a lot more time out on the West end where all of the fish seem to be. Don't feel bad though, I saw a couple charter boats pull in after 6 hour trips and they each only landed 2 fish on Saturday. P.S. You stole my boat name...or I stole yours.
  21. I agree. Standard divers have a very hard time getting to 100 feet no matter how much line you let out. I use both and find Walker Magnum sized divers can easily get to 100 with about 260 feet out. at 2.5 mph down speed. At 2.0 down speed my magnum sized will reach about 90 feet when I have about 220 out.
  22. I am not a liberal or "left leaning" guy and this program shows how most people are willing to help others as long as the government isn't forcing it down their throats. Most people with the means to do so are happy to help those that are less fortunate because it is very rewarding for everyone. Great job giving this youngster great memories that he will likely never forget....Awesome!
  23. Barry's in Waterloo, May's Point, and a guy on 5&20 near Indian Head Golf course are the only places I know of.
