  1. Ok. Def not a 703. Some dash mount model. You say the key is completely separate from the shift lever housing? Don't see how a spring in the housing would affect the key. Unless it's a spring that doesn't let you try to start when it's in gear. I would open it up. Check this out... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=204476
  2. Lil Jake can correct me but I think it's $25 total for the whole thing.
  3. I just used a couple of waterproof quick connects. Kind you just crimp on the end of the wire. Cheap simple and easy. Ran the wiring from the fuse panel in parallel.
  4. Is it the yamaha 703 control box? There really isn't much for parts in them. I have taken mine apart. Nothing falls out. I can find a internal parts diagram somewhere on the internet. Saw it somewhere before. Don't know how far you are from Corning but I'd be willing to give you a hand.
  5. I'm real lucky. Can't stand bananas. nasty things. Makes me a great fisherman!
  6. I think you're not going to be able to make everyone happy. This is pretty much for fun anyway so if you can't make one, tough. They don't reschedule any other derby around days off or weather or any thing else. I only have three of them off right now. Going to try and swap some days or take vacation to get the others. If I can't fish one or two so be it. I don't want this to turn into a job so Lil Jake is worn out and won't do it again next year. Leave the dates as they are and just have fun. I vote yes to this proposition A1.... Any others?
  7. Well, the original water separator was a one line in, one line out bolted to the engine. So, I picked up a new water separator (probably could've used a new one anyway) with two ins and two outs. Plugged one of the ins, sent one out to engine, and put a 1/4 turn brass ball valve on the one to the kicker. Real nice looking set up. The fuel pump for the main i/o is after the separator so I doubt the kicker will pull fuel from the main. Real nice with brass fittings everywhere and it should work like a champ! Thanks again guys! (I love this site!!!!!!)
  8. Shop in Canandaigua - Power Marine. Sold me my kicker. Good people. I know they do a lot of props....
  9. Can you put the days in the calendar as you figure them out? Planning vac ahead of time!
  10. Wish I could fire it up tonight. Friday's temps aren't looking so great - 35/23. Maybe Saturday morning. L&M I'm hoping the steering works out. Now I know why these Stringers aren't too popular! Getting to be quite the pro on them though!
  11. There's a couple at Seneca Marine. them a call www.senecamarine.com
  12. Any idea how to position it just right?
  13. I haven't even looked at it.... Never crossed my mind besides making sure it's there...
  14. yup. Probably could use a new separator anyhow
  15. I have a water separator mounted right on the engine. Didn't think about getting one with two outlets..... Will it prevent the main engine from pulling gas from the kicker?
  16. Oh forgot to mention I put the valve assembly on from the scrap boat. No change...
  17. I'm trying to figure out how I want to plumb the fuel line in to my kicker. Planning on just Y-ing out of the main line. However, I am having a hard time finding a 3 way valve where I can switch fuel from one engine to the other. One thing I did find is a one way automatic valve. It just splices into the line and lets gas go only one way. I figured if I put one in each line after the Y it should allow each to run without pulling from the other engine. No having to open/close valves, pump line for kicker, etc. Any thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5-16-Fue ... 5fServices
  18. I drank a few beers, sat back, thought about it, and realized..... I can put a rudder on the back! I put the steering setup all back together. Maybe I'll start it up this afternoon. Feel free to come up when you get out of work. Notice how no one posted anything on this topic?
  19. siphon out a few gallons and call it a day
  20. Rod huh.... So you're the one that convinced me to pick up those grease traps.... Can't wait to try em out! Maybe sunday 29th. Let you know how they do.
  21. Apologize for being slightly off-topic but I hate dragging in planer boards. Have a whole pile of clips to last me as long as possible. One thing I thought was taking say a length of power pro and tying it to the first clip that goes out. Let the clip out and tie the other end of the line to the boat somewhere. Then when I run out of clips, I can just pull the power pro in and bring the whole lot of clips in and leave the boards out all day.... Anyone ever try something like this? Think of any pros/cons?
  22. Should I be able to steer the outdrive without the motor running? It currently does not and I thought it is supposed to. Did OMC/Stringer make it unique that it had to be running? I haven't tried running the motor yet but will probably Monday or Tuesday. Not excited about it with having to re-winterize. Cold nights in the forecast... 1982 3.8 liter OMC, Stringer outdrive hydraulic assist (not tru course) It has a brand new cable/helm (installed 3/18/10 by yours truly). There are no tight bends in cable. Teleflex Safe-T QC Bypassed hydaulic assist and connected steering linkage from cable direct to steering arm (This arm connects to some gearing in the intermediate housing and steering gear to outdrive). This will turn the outdrive however rather hard... I assume the need for power assist.... I tried bypassing the outdrive and connecting just to hydraulic assist. After removing and testing cylinder and replacing (cylinder full of air not fluid) it turns real easy. As I continue steering it starts to stiffen up and become hard to steer (as air is replaced by fluid). Steering still possible though very, very hard. Hook it all up like normal and it is impossible to budge. (Busted steering cable this way...) Removed hydraulic assist cylinder. Ram can be pushed in and out by hand. Doubt anything wrong with it. Removed hydraulic valve assembly. Marina said that there might be something in there that's broke and not letting fluid escape (relief valve). Jacked the bolt up that holds it on and had to cut it off as I could not loosen further or tighten it back up. New valve assembly = $500+. Removed one from my scrap boat without breaking it and will install that Monday to see if there is a difference. Power steering pump??? doubt it. I overfilled power steering pump with fluid. When steering just hydraulic assist (outdrive bypassed) I could squeeze fluid out the overflow on the pump when I reached the limits of steering to either side. Wouldn't that say the valve assembly is working correctly? Fluid is traveling somewhere.... Nothing left to work on.... I'm stumped.... There is only the three pieces to the power assist - cylinder, valve assembly, pump. They all seem to be fine. Mechanical steering from linkage to outdrive - fine. Cable/helm - new. Put it all together - not fine. Does anybody have an OMC preferably stringer and know if they can steer with the engine off? Any ideas???? P.S. The girlfriend would appreciate any help. She finds that I tend to be in a poor mood when the boat does not cooperate...
  23. 0983732 Previously 0982083 Part is impossible to find. Nothing on the internet. 1982 3.8 liter OMC Any other options let me know.... There's got to be a way to put a different valve assy on there.....
