  1. Yea, it is nice to hit the switch for up while you work on something else. You do have to consider though, if a guy is starting out, a lot of money can be spent reel quick. Between rod/reel combos, lures, electronics, fuel, & beverages/snacks, a day on the lake can add up fast. A cheap second hand manuel rigger or two can be a reel blessing.... Shop around, you could get lucky if someone is looking to upgrade. It's all about what you can afford in this economy....
  2. steve with his first fish on the new ride
  3. finaly got steve out fishing on his new boat. conditions were alot different than on sunday. we went from a light south wind and rain to a brisk north wind and lots of sunshine. started off with the same program that we ran on sunday, and picked up a few landlocks quickly. as the wind and waves built up the fishing died down. at least we got to run the new alumacraft in some rough water.... she handled very well btw.... i think steve was happy with the new set-up. now he just has to give her a name....
  4. i always used hand cranks. you dont have to worry about wiring them, or about them breaking down or switches going bad or etc. else that can go wrong with an electric. when i got my penn yan it came with 4 electric cannons. I now only use two, the other two are in my basement because of issues with the switches. unless you fish really deep with your riggers, hand cranks are the way to go. electrics also draw on your batteries, and what about electric currents through riggers? do hand cranks need a black box?
  5. well, we said *@%^ the weather man and went fishin today. good thing too, because the fish were cooperating. we launched at the village marina and went to the east side , only to find weeds worse than i have ever saw them this time of year. headed west, and set up in the middle heading west to the salt plant. instead of dodging weeds, we were dodging boats... the browns and landlocks were there, and the nets were out. we picked up some beauties on 8 color leadcore, and on sticks behind the otterboats. the wire/divers were very quiet today, only 2 small lakers. it was the first trip of the year for my son, and he was rewarded by reeling in a nice landlock off the otterboat, and a nice brownie off a fire tiger honey bee on the rigger at 48ft. fished from 8:00- 2:30. got rained on most of the day, but stayed nice and dry thanks to some nice canvas. we kept a few browns, salmon, and 1 laker, and let a few go too. special thanks to capt. nick on reel stories for helping us dial in. hopefuly someday we can return the favor these were our lucky ducks. every time we went by them... fish on ... thanks Nick
  6. I'm guessing the finger lakes will have a bad year. Already seeing pods of weeds on the surface, seems too early for that... [ Post made via Android ]

  12. we fished out of saverne on tuesday. covered alot of water south of there, but we had a hard time finding the fish. managed 2 lakers on the wire/divers, and 1 brownie on a spoon behind the otter boats. we were out from 930-130 and went 3-5. the big weenie reelhooked up fly got the first laker. on weds. we launched at the village marina and fished the west side of the lake north. didnt hit any fish on that side of the lake anywhere, shallow or out deep. eventualy we crossed to the other side and went south. picked 1 nice laker 3/4 of the way across, then 1 more in 175fow. these were the only fish for the day. least we kept the skunk out... steve's new boat ran and fished reel nice, VERY happy with it so far

  17. I put the simrad system, on my penn yan 2 years ago and love it. Easy install, easy operation.
  18. How about sheldrake point? All other launches on the west side look unusable. I would go to Seneca or Ontario. The perch fishing on Seneca should be getting good, or browns out of sodus...
  19. I been thinkin about it too. I won't know until the morning [ Post made via Android ]
  20. They r basically the same. I have cannon tracks, rod holders on my penn yan, and we just put berts equip on Steve's alumacraft. I do personally like the cannon rod holders better. Price is Prolly the biggest difference. [ Post made via Android ]
