  2. thanks guys. plenty of good fishing to be had out there! hannah, i was running leadcore off the boards, gets it out of the way. of course i didnt catch a thing on it! i use the large scotty releases. there cheap and work good. best, mark
  3. i have for sale, 12 misc. stickbaits and 18 misc. spoons. all with good hooks. some used, some new. price reduced, $25 shipped to your door. paypal or money order. PM me if interested. thanks, mark
  4. launched at long point yesterday for my first fingerlakes trip with my new boat. ran about a mile south and set up in the middle on a south troll. our goal was to hook a nice rainbow so we had all spoons set up on light leader. parked the riggers at 58 and 68 along with one dipsie at 175 and a 10 color leadcore on a board. hooked a few small salmon on the riggers and also hooked a large laker on a slider all in the first hour. also landed a 6" rainbow! decided to make the run down to t-falls and set up just north of the point. hooked several lakers and several salmon in front of the point out deep. one laker was on a dipsy with a rapala flat rap that almost took the rod out of the holder. i grabbed the rod as it slipped out! our biggest salmon was around 3lbs and most of them were on the deep riggers. sliders were pretty quiet. flea were a non issue and the weeds were not too bad. ran into some south of sheldrake. lots of bait out front of t-falls. nice day on the water. best, mark
  5. I got a new(to me) boat recently and thought id share a few pics. its a 1989 Penn Yan 212 Tournament. I bought it from a friend who bought it brand new. Its been garaged kept its whole life and babied. It has 1400 hrs and runs great. Consistent routine maintenance. I have lots of stuff i want to put on the boat over the next off season but really all it needs is some minor cosmetic work like new vinyl cushions, gunnel cushions and some new windows on the soft top. Would love to talk to anyone who owns this particular model. best, mark
  6. thanks for the update sean. 85-86 degree surface temps. dang thats hot!... havent been able to drag myself out on the local water lately. no weeds, no packed ramps and no jet skis on the big lake! keep up the good work. best, mark
  7. i purchased a penn yan recently that came with an eagle loran navigation unit. ive read on this site that this will no longer work in this country. but does this system still work elsewhere? just wondering if i should put this thing on ebay for a few bucks or through it in the dumpster. thanks, mark
  8. im trying to get a program together for flasher/flies. recently ive been tying my main line on rigger rods directly to my flasher. i lost a rig recently and the line came up in a twisted ball so im thinking that the barrel swivel on the spin doctor jammed. would it make sense to tie a barrel swivel on the main line then flouro leader then flasher? also, ive heard of guys tying a perfection loop on there fly leaders to attach to the flasher. how do you do that on a spin doctor which has just a barrel swivel on the bottom end of the flasher? it works great on e-chips that have that large duo snap on the end. any advice on how to rig these would be appreciated. best, mark
  9. hey rob, i gave the walleye 3 strikes this year and saw(didnt catch) only one walleye for my efforts. they are officially fired! its definitely changed out there in the last couple years. who knows, maybe that will benefit the trout fishery. best, mark
  10. stevo, i put on a 50' leader attached to the leadcore with an albright. works fine for me. you can put them on boards but you have to let the entire line out and attach board to backing, not leadcore. i put a 15' section of mono in between power pro backing and leadcore for running on boards. best, mark
  11. BP, i went through the same thing last year with mono for dipsies. it sucked! im paying attention to what these guys are saying about wire as ive been considering trying it, but i just dont like working with wire line. ive had great luck with 50# power pro for dipsies. gets down deep and even when fleas are in i had good luck "snapping" them off with the dipsy in the water at the side of the boat. no reason you couldnt try it with your 65# PP. best, mark
  12. nice report sean! you got me fired up when you mentioned weeds as ive been battling them on the north end the last couple days. now we have the bass opener tomorrow and a couple tourneys. forget about it! keep up the good work. best, mark
  13. nice report rob. looks like your buddies had alot of fun. best, mark
  14. hey guys, im looking at purchasing an '89 Penn Yan 245 Contender. after all the research ive done on used trolling boats my biggest concern is problems with the hull structure. what do i need to look for with hull structure when looking at this boat? if there is problems with stringers and bulkheads, is this something that can be effectively repaired or is it a fatal condition? thanks alot, mark
  15. hookem, dont feel bad. try owasco sometime same damn thing. its even better when you can see them swimming around and still cant catch them. best, mark
  16. thanks alot guys! i guess i better get some red and purple spoons. best, mark
  17. nice guys. i have some new stuff to try! thanks alot, mark
  18. nice report! keep the pics coming. best, mark
  19. thanks guys. not sure what you mean by fixed cheater. same as a slider(leader with swivels on each end attached to downrigger rod line) except it doesnt slide? never tried that but i like the idea. good point on the sliders with flasher/flies. today i ran just two spoons on the rigger and ran a flasher on the dipsy. got all hits on the slider spoon. ill look into fixed cheaters more. best, mark
  20. really enjoying following this post. looks like your having a great time! just got off the lake on the east end. dont feel bad, bugs are HORRIBLE down here too. my legs are chewed up! keep up the good work! best, mark
  21. i often fish by myself and it kills me to only be able to use two rods when trolling. i sure hope we get that 3rd rod next year! im trying to make the best of my two rod spread and could use some tips. in particular for salmon and steelhead. i was thinking about trying one rigger and always run a slider. dont even know if sliders will work for salmon but im gonna try it. flasher/fly on bottom, spoon on slider and then either a braid dipsey or stealth line off a board. either a leadcore, copper, flatline w/snap weight, dive bomb etc. with spoons. would appreciate any suggestions you have. best, mark
  22. ive noticed lots of recent lake O reports stating that red was the hot spoon color. is this an early season thing? good color for steelhead? never really tried red spoons. best, mark
  23. hey rob, thats the one. penn yan 212 tournament. i gotta have it! been spoiled in that boat the last couple days. best, mark
