We use single strand mono to bottom bounce in the Chesapeake, but we are talking 25 - 40 feet of water. There are two big differences. First you will only get about half the length of single strand wire on a reel as 7strand. Second the single strand is not nearly as flexible and will kink easily. And here's a third - you will need to use a haywire twist to tie it off and then you also need to protect the tag ends so they don't cut you. [ Post made via iPhone ]

Yep - a short blue wire. I connected mine to the gauges so the backlight comes on when the nav light switch is turned on.

Leaving SC PA early tomorrow for Oak Orchard. Will be there thru Sunday and then a couple of more trips into mid August. Don't know what we might find when we get there for the afternoon shift tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to fish. We will be in the green Sportcraft Li'l Bit.

I would recommend The Natural with Capt Marty Moran. For a number of years Marty held the state record Blue Marlin. He can put you on whites and blues as well as tuna.

I kinda want to keep them to myself....... We'd like to try for a few if you don't mind.

John, Great report. We will be up on Thursday afternoon and begin fishing the evening bite - might just have to borrow something from your report. I'm glad you didn't cry - Ray K would call you a "woose".

We will be up for our first trip of the season on Thursday. We hope to catch some fish to keep. Regardless of what we catch, I doubt we will keep a limit - never do. But we plan to keep some and it will be a mixed bag of year classes depending on what we catch. I am sure the few fish we catch and keep do no harm to either the population or average size. Lake O is such a fantastic fishery and we are grateful to be able to participate in it i even though we are from PA. Many thanks to Capts Rick Hajecki and Bill Ruth for teaching us enough that we can do this. And many thanks to all who post trip reports so that we occasional visitors at least have a starting point.

I have an early 90s Johnson v4. What I did to get at the thermostat bolts is to use a roto zip to cut holes in the lower cowl. Now I use large rubber washers and fender washers to plug the holes. [ Post made via iPhone ][M/b]

I fish for stripers spring and fall in the Chesapeake. Will be bringing the green Sportcraft to the Oak next Thursday where she stay for the next month to experience this great fishery. I really prefer it that way - don't "fix" something that isn't broken.

Thanks for the responses. I can't get her to take the wheel on my little center console, let alone an inboard.

We are making our first trip of the season in two weeks. There will be three of us licensed to fish and my 12 year old grandson - total of four fishermen. We will only pull 10 rods. That is an increase over the 8 we towed last year - and we proved we could make a mess pulling 8. We will keep a few fish for the table. but most will go back into the depths of Lake O. The question is, my wife wants to come along and ride on the boat if the lake is fairly smooth. She does not want to handle a rod or pull in a fish. We will not need her to be licensed due to rod count. We will keep less than full limits. Does she need to be licensed? Thanks for your help.

Here's what I did. I used 1x4 from a shipping crate and some hooks I bought at Lowe's. It easily holds 12 rods. Easy to organize - board rods up top, dipsy rods in the middle and rigger rods on the bottom. The rods ride well on the 400 mile trip from home to Lake O.

We stayed at 4 cs last year - there were four of us and it cost about $40 a night per person for the cabin. Boat slip was $25 per night. This year we are staying at Clean Sweep Cabins and renting a slip for a month at Wileys.

Took my great-nephew fishing last weekend. He caught his first keeper flounder at Wachapreague, VA
