Heck of a day with the boys!!! I love opening day of gun lol

Finally BBD!!! Came in yesterday evening chasing a doe. I hit him back….way back. All stomach. I watched him run across the field and stop midway, hunch up and slow walk into the thicket. Got out of my stand and got out of there without tracking him at all. Called Bob Yax, and he met me at 7:30 this morning with his dog. The deer was dead 60 yards inside the thicket in his bed. Never want to see them suffer, but I’m blessed to have the opportunity to harvest this beautiful buck.

Well, I got number 49, 50, and 51 yesterday. It was a heck of a season out there. Really one of the most consistent bites I have seen in years. Many of my friends out there had an outstanding season as well. Biggest for me was 25 pounds this year. I haven’t got one that big in a few years now. I’m exhausted from the grind, but I would never trade it. It’s my favorite time of year. For those still chasing, good luck! For me, off the the deer woods 💪🏼

Been a fun season with many fishing hitting the concrete. I’m exhausted from the grind, but will likely will get out a handful more times over the next couple weeks.

Interesting with it being a big pike lake that not one 40” was caught during the survey out of 136 pike caught. Could be because they really are a needle in a haystack 🤷🏼‍♂️

Huge shoutout to Isaac for letting me get out over his food plots early season every year with the kids. It has been an awesome experience for them now the last 3 years. I also got to teach my little guy some patience as we had a big doe and yearling come into the plot. He wasn’t thrilled I wouldn’t shoot lol. About 20 minutes later we had a solo doe come out, and was able to take the shot. Unfortunately I hit her alittle back and ended up jumping her on the track. We decided to back out and came back this morning to recover her. She had died 20 yards from where we backed out, and unfortunately the coyotes got her over night. My son got to see what can happen when you make a marginal hit. It’s unfortunate and not something you ever want to happen….but it’s the reality of hunting sometimes. Either way, blessed with some awesome time with my son in the field and memories made.

I have fished the Rochester piers over the last 20 years, with the last 8 being very invested. I will say that the fishing off the piers this year has been the same as any other. I averaged about 40 kings a season casting, with my best year being 57. I am on pace this season to do better than my average. Like ifishy said, this past week with stable weather and warm water temps around the piers…..well that never makes for great stager fishing around the mouth. This is the week the boats have been hitting it hard out front…..and with little luck. The bite has been trash since last Friday, although I still did get a few this week. Early last week when the bite was on fire, almost all the captains were driving right over them to go fish offshore 🤷🏼‍♂️. As for Sandy, I have watched that fishery digress in king numbers the last few season. I can’t really speak to Caledonia, as I’m not informed about that situation. However, I will say we still have some good fishing to look forward to out infront of the roc.

The kings still return to the genny. I got a real beauty this morning! 😂

40” pike don’t show up around here often. Essentially you are going to be fishing for a needle in a haystack. 95% of the pike in that lake are probably 18-35 inches. That leaves you maybe 5% of the population that would be 40” plus. The number is probably even smaller than that. I would upsize lures. Muskie sized lures. You will get less bites, but you will get the right bites, hopefully lol. I have fished all over the last 25 years and have caught tons of pike, and I’ve only ever gotten one pike 40 plus and a couple other close. It just doesn’t happen around here often. It’s essentially like catching a 50” musky. It just doesn’t happen often because there aren’t a lot of them around
