  3. Fished owasco Saturday and it was a a madplace.Constant traffic in and out. Anyrate i jigged up a limit of lakers about half way up the lake on right side in about 70 to 80 feet of water. Nothing big around 25 inches. Just right for the table. White jig with chartruce small zoom tube.Left at 11.
  4. Anyone know what the largest laker was for the derby. Thanks
  5. I usally do quite well on this lake but got the skunk the mudpuppy day. Makes ya try harder the next time.
  6. Snagged this trolling in 120 feet on bottom. Is it a mudpuppy
  7. Was at south shore marine this morning and no docks yet and water high. Went from there to long point and jigged up some lakers north of the point.
  8. Thanks Lolmops! I guess i will just have to wait for ice for some lakers.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has fished ensonor from shore during the cold months before ice.Thanks.
  10. Jigging has been very good in around 80 to 100 feet of water. Trolling has been difficult because of floating mass of weeds.. I would troll near bottom or the thermocline which was around 50 feet down but changes daily. Normally where there is bait there is lakers. Good luck.
  11. My jigs are made out of keel sinkers powder painted and a siwash salmon hook attached.Best tube is a 3.5 zoom white ice and char pepper which they dont make anymore. I use only 1 once in the winter. Lakers are full of sawbellys which are quite large.Have tried many options but always come back to the tube. Just me.
  12. Jigged cayuga a couple days ago out of t-park and had excellent fishing. Lande around 10 between myself and grandkid. Most around 4-5 pounds and gk got 2 around 8. All caught on 1.5 oz jig with small tube,
  13. I use mostly a 1.5 oz jig with tube and 30 pound braid (8 lb dia eq ) and a 12 pound test floro or maxima leader. Does the job for me.
  14. My tactic is to drop the jig all the way to the bottom and jig it fast 2 times, then start reeling up. Watch your graph. i reel half way up then drop down again UNLESS i see a laker striking up from the bottom ( solid black line ) I then stop the jig when hes close and real up steady. Again watch graph. Continue reeling as long as he is following. If the laker drops off , drop back down to bottom and bring jig past him again. If no action whin 3 drops then bring all the way up and start all over. Some lakers you wont see on the graph so hold on good all the time.A steady jigging motion seems to NOT produce. experiment and mostly Watch Graph.Usually after reeling 3 turns on the reel you will get your hookup.or half way up. Have fun.PS.( If line goes slack, set hook.) Cayuga has been hot 85 feet has been my best depth north of the t- park. When its calm i like to just leave the jig down halway in the water column so when i see a laker on bottom or suspended i can get to him fast. Almost lost a pole last week Had pole in lap drinking coffee with jig down abot 50 feet when bam big laker on. I could see on the graph where he came up off the bottom to jig. What a blast.
  15. Have used mine for over 20 years without any problems. Have gone to braid instead of cable though. Have heard that PENN is going out of the downrigger business..The swivilmatic bases are great if you can find them reasonable. There quite pricy new but better get them now or never. If you dont have them, check e-bay.
  16. I have been running braid from Cabelas for years and love it. No noise and strong as wire. Cuts the water better too. To each there own though..
  17. Fished owasco today 7/17. Jigging was great in 110 feet of water. Got rainrd off at 10 30. Crazy weather. Enclosed picture.
  18. Great job on the lakers. nice looking fish. Will be jigging and trolling there tomorrow.fished it last week and jigging was great.Around 90 feet was best.
  19. Wife and I Fished owasco Saturday. tried trolling but lots of weeds on top and cotton down deep. Did our jigging thing and ended with 6 nice lakers and brought 4 home.Left around 11. The marina was qute busy. All caught on tubes. Will try the sabiki rig. Thanks for info.
  20. Otsego is a tough lake to fish. The decline in alwives baitfish has produced most lakers skinney. They are also out of there temp zone feeding near shore on perch. Used to be a fantastic trout fishery but things have changed the last couple of years. Laker limit is one per day and 23 inches. There are some nice walleyes in there. Launching at the south end is a headach and you need to be there real early. Launch fee is 10 bucks per day or 4 days for 20 bucks. Beautiful lake.If you troll try higher in the water column. If you see them on bottom drop a jig on them and reel up to surface and repeat. Good luck
  21. anyone know the results of the owasco derby
  22. I beleive that sign up must be done by today. You can call south shore marina at 815-497-3006 to be sure. They are the ones that put it on.
  23. Trolled owasco sunday and had poor results. Lots of weeds and cotton on top.Did jigged up 6 lakers midlake with a couple 28 inches on a white jig and tube.
