  1. Otisco is good to go .....I know the north end is fine ...on it last night5-6". Rest of lake I believe to be fine ...but have not personally checked my self I'll be on it this weekend !
  2. Got my diary filled out tonight. Ready to go back to the DEC As my 10 yr old daughter was making something she looked over and said "what are you doing Dad?" and I explained to her the diary and what it was for and the DEC and what they are responsible for, and explained stocking , and size and catch limits , and deer tagging etc. and she was really intrigued. She asked a lot of questions like ," is it because the fish don't respawn is why they stock them?" I explained to her the amount of management with wildlife that takes place so that people can go out and enjoy hunting and fishing and harvest what they can while limits can help ensure that there still are fish left to be caught for fun AND/OR food and the lakes are not empty. Same goes for deer harvest reporting. It felt really good to see my 10 yr old interested the subject and to finish the conversation when she says " remember when I was little and we almost caught that tiger muskie that hit my perch? and remember when I got my picture taken at otisco lake campgrounds and put on the wall in the store because I caught a bigger perch than you Dad, remember that?" Yes I remember! Again, now that I realize really how beneficial good reports can be, I will really keep a better record of trips for 2014! Tim
  3. I've got to fill mine out yet. I've got to get to it this week . I always thinking about doing at the most inconvenenient time and then forget ! When I get the new one it will be carried with me when I go .
  4. I was out in the middle in front of the park and the restaurant yesterday afternoon jigged around ...no fish to be found. about 4" iof clear ice everywhere I drilled in as little as 5 ft and as much as 17 ' the lake should be in really good shape after the next couple days ..
  5. Down by the dam was busy this afternoon ....didn't get out until 3 but nice to get out on otisco for the first time just a few small gills for me ...ice measured 3-4" the few places I went ,,,still a bit open by narrows... We ought to be good from here on out!
  6. I would love to take a 3-4 day ice trip up there ! WOW!
  7. I have a Frabill trekker II and love it! It is a 2 man but almost all of the time its me. Mine is not insulated and a buddy heater does awesome inside. I bought it to have the ability to take my kids. A lot of people get hung up on weight, I am more about comfort. My buddies kept worrying about weight and focused on it entirely and bought smaller lighter shappells flipovers. am of the opinion that when the ice is clean or has little or snow on it , they all weigh the same. When the snow is nasty and clinging to the sled, my flipover is heavier , no doubt but guess what, they all get heavy in that situation. I think I am able to enjoy the comfort and room more times a year on clean ice than my friends are able to take advantage of the lighter weight flipovers when the snow is nasty. Which, by the way when the snow is heavy and dragging is tough, my buddies with the lighter flipovers won't go anyway !
  8. What time is the walleye coming out Justin? Maybe I'll come down for the appetizers and come back for my prime rib dinner! Merry Xmas all! Dear Santa, All I want for xmas is a locked up Otisco lake! Tim
  9. For me the Artic armor was an easy decision when I realized how much I love ice fishing more than most and schedules and family commitments cause you to go fishing when you can....not when you and your buddies can or in the middle of the day when everyone else is out there. So I end up fishing quite a bit EARLY in the am before the sun comes up or at night when no one else is out there or my buddies would rather fall asleep on the couch watching tv.. If I waited to go ice fishing with someone , I would never fish the amount I wanted to. SO I made the investment in the arctic armor, I wear a life jacket underneath it on a boat or if I'm by myself on the ice. It is not coast guard approved, but the claim is the insulation will float 3 adults. When I have gotten wet with it, it was still extremely warm, however I have not gone in fully. I don't worry about any layers underneath. Jeans and a flannel shirt underneath is about it. Bottom line is since I have had the suit the only issue I have is my hands, due to taking gloves on and off and handling fish and tying lures etc. Hope this helps! Tim Tim
  10. X2 on the Artic armor! I bought it for ice fishing 2yrs also however those late fall days and early spring days on a 14 ft alum boat make them worth every penny... You know that all you need is the bibs and coat and nothing else and it could down pour in the coldest weather with a stiff wind and you would feel like you were wrapped in an electric blanket.
  11. main lake side of the causeway is wide open.....the lake was open from amber to the causeway... if you give it a try ...let me know you do!
  12. Thanks for the insight Kevin, good read! Tim
  13. 1st off ... bbolger , I am sorry to hear of your misfortune and wish you a speedy recovery so you can go out and get yourself a batch of perch! the oven fried fish is a piece of cake and awesome without the oil! You can pretty much bread the fish how you normally would .....dipped in egg and then your favorite breading. (in the picture is Kraft homestyle oven fry bake) Melt butter so that it covers the bottom of the baking dish(you can also use "i cant believe its not butter) Preheat oven to 425° , dip fish in egg and breading and then lay it in the baking dish getting the butter on both sides of the fish and then place in oven 12- 20 minutes depending on thickness of fish. OUTSTANDING! just fish with breading and no oil!. I've done it with walleye and perch so far. I've also used the golden dipt cajun which is excellent also. Meathunter, my buddy was hammering the perch up in little sodus just a few days prior , so apparently I had missed them by a few days. The past 3 yrs Iv'e been going up when my buddy lets me know its on and have done really well. Just didnt happen this time. Tim
  14. after hunting the entire week with no deer to show for it, after making a trip to little sodus for perch without putting a fish in the boat, to say by yesterday i was disappointed would be and understatement. Sat in the woods sunday morning and saw nothing. Went home...hooked up the boat and headed to skaneateles marina . It took me a bit to find them, but brought some home to eat. Most of them were 34 to 40 ft...but a couple were caught in 20 as well. Their spittin up perch and crayfish. Almost all were on a pumpkin slider with a couple on fatheads. The bigger ones were 12.5 to 13". Sent from my LG-VM696 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. I have only heard about Lourdes camp and guys doiin well there. I do not know if anyone has been havin any luck in the village or not.
  16. I didnt think I was crazy. My first reaction was no way!. A hunting partner a few yrs back shot one like that on a drive. I swear its eyes were as big as baseballs and it dressed at 185#. We had 4 deer I think on that drive and that doe had dwarfed a couple avg 6pt bucks that were down also!
  17. way to save your weekend! I know the feeling!
  18. Didnt get a deer this weekend and my last couple attempts at oneida havent gone well. A poor perch outing last weekend has had me in bit of a lull since my outstanding october on otisco. 15 minutes from shore tonight w a kastmaster had me feeling good again! 20. good job!...wind had to make it interesting!
  21. guess I don't really know.....didn't think of it actually
  22. those aren't river walleyes...they look like sink walleyes! they would never survive there anyway...good thing you ate them!
  23. A buddy and I launched out of glen haven today about 1 oclock with 4 dz fatheads in search of the striped bandits. Thought it was gonna be a good day...first spot first drop of the baits and we had 3-4 in short order... apparently mother nature decided to turn the knob up on the wind as soon as my little boat hit the water as it got worse for the rest of the day found the nicer perch in 24-27' however it was one of those days where you could not stay on them because the wind. couldn't really sit on top of them they really wouldn't hit much and you could only drift through them but you only had a small window to get a hit .... the fact that I left my bigger anchor with lots of rope at home on the toon didn't help matters much either. it was a tough afternoon.. kept a dozen...threw back some shorties, landed a pickerel, got bit off, and had a nice smallie on. It appears the wind will be even worse tomorrow...gggrrrr not good for fishing or hunting! Tim
