  1. Lake Ontario was 82.6% ice covered through the month of February, near record!
  2. Is Sandy and Oak Orchard open from the launch out?
  3. Yeah that's what i thought
  4. I read the article and there are a lot of questions I have. I showed it to my Human Bio teacher and he has a lot of questions about it also. Did this last winter have an effect on them? Since the Salmon fishing wasn't good this year were Steelhead "over targeted?" Where do fish get their vitamin B because in the article the DEC is going to do tests on several fish and are going to inject them with Vitamin B because of diffeciency with Vitamin B and they are also injecting them with Saline Solution. I don't know just thought i'd start a thread about it and possibly get some answers or raise awareness.
  5. Well today was our annual trip out with my older brother Cory and his buddy Jason! We woke up around 4:30 told them to be at the launch by 6:00 we were late getting there because the lower unit wasn't going down. Finally got it to work and we broke the rocks at 6:45 set up in front of devils nose in 85fow. Finished setting up and the side rigger on my side fired off fish came off after a minute. Purple UV Warrior spoon down 75, back 50. Shortly after resetting that rod the back rigger on my side fired off fish came off after a minute. Green Rogue NK spoon 30 feet back 95 feet down in 100fow. Shortly after resetting that rod the side rigger on my side fired again with a Brown, same spoon same setting. After we released that fish the back rigger on my side fired with a Laker (Almost having a 250lb brother knocking you in the water because you didn't see the rod fire off haha) anyway fish came on Green Rogue NK same settings. 15 minutes went by and the back rigger on my side fored again same spoon same setting with a Laker as I slid the net under the Laker, side rigger on my side fires off! Brown caught on the same lure same setting. There was a lull in the fishing then the side rigger on my Dads side fired off! Skippy King not sure what lure or setting im sure he will comment on the post. So we picked back up and ran Back to Devils Nose. Finished setting up and the side rigger starts SCREAMING!! 600ft pulled off in no time. We put a 20lb King in the Boat. Lets say I got greedy I haven't had a fish take drag like that all year so I wanted to fight it. Anyway fish came on a size 28 Purple DW. We picked up another Laker and a Brown to finish off the day. Score today was my side 6, Dads 3. We finished 9-11. 2 Kings, 3 Lakers, 4 Browns. 80-100fow all day. We marked a lot of fish suspended around 60-70 with thick schools of bait. Temp down 100 was 46 surface 68. Some wicked current though. Reading everyone else's reports it sounds like things are starting to get back to normal, it's definitely showing good signs! 6. Cdq's dad , I'm with the above comments temp and speed important started trolling trout/salmon early 80's put speed temp on 1986 Ray Jeff 285 still using today also have fish hawk old one currently not on the boat. I to went at times without depthfinder old paper graphs use to break down stylis/paper run out pain to change out on the water took two hands while u we're trying to drive. Then I would watch my temp. Speed very critical at the ball. Lots of spoon deals on this sight. Wire slide divers work well for me. Remember fishin. Lures catch fishermen too. I got to many spoons! Good luc sounds like u got good start. Get good marine radio. Always keep eye on the weather.
  7. Let's talk I got 21.2 penn yan 1988 for around 5000.00 we can test drive it fish out of it
  8. Cdq's dad , nice catch be hard to top that one I've caught 8/10 pounders on lite tackle that pull like crazy! That's a monster! Not swimmin in that lake again. Ha! Good job.
  9. Got up around 4:30, made it to the launch at 6 o'clock and started setting up at 7 in 150fow. I had just finished rigging my side and turned around to steer the boat so my Dad can rig his side. Thats when the back rigger rod fired off! The fish came on the Warrior Perch UV set 30ft off the ball 60ft down. 5 minutes later put an Atlantic Salmon on the bottom of the boat, and did it put on a show in the back of the boat! Anyway after releasing the Atlantic I set that back down at the same settings, and a little skippy took it. We finally got everything set up and the side rigger on Dads side fired off with a nice size Steelhead. The Fish came on a FL Black Mamba, 46ft down 35 off the ball. We started a North troll after that. Hit 300ft without a hit on the way out. We then trolled South and the Torpedo started going with a Laker. Fish came on the KOS with green back, 25ft off the torpedo 150ft back! After resetting that rod the slide diver Started screaming, fish came off after a couple of minutes. The spoon was a Finger Lakes tackle, it has a black outer edge, gray center, with green dots. Anyway there was a lull in the fishing for a while, so I changed the back rigger to a White Green dot spinny, with Atomik gator trolling fly. 5 minutes later it released with a big fish, spit the fly. 15ft off the ball 75 ft down. We found a little slick in between 200-250 with a scum line and it was holding fish. We worked that and landed 6 fish in a 1 mile span. Nothing too major, Coho, Kings, Steelheads. Most fish came on the Torpedo, with the Warrior UV alewife spoon, set 25ft off the torpedo, 150ft back. Ended the day 10-14 all but missing a Brown. Off the water by 11:30. Good Luck, Tight lines, Screaming reels Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Got up around 4:00 this morning, met my Dads buddy at his house to get the boat, and cleared the rocks around 6:30. Started setting up in 120 fow off the Nose and pointed North. Around the 180 mark the rigger on my Dads side fires off with a 5lb Steelhead. Fish came on a SS Caramel Dolphin 36 feet down 30 feet behind the ball. When we hit the 200 mark the Torpedo diver on my side starts screaming and a nice steelie comes flying out of the water! Fish came on FL King of Sting with the green back! The lure was set 25 feet off the torpedo and set back 150! We caught 3 fish today on that set up! One Laker and another steelie! Once the West chop started kicking the rigger rods started firing a bit more! Had a couple ticklers but didnt trip the release. We got back into the 180 mark and the back rigger on my Dads side fires off with a steelie! Fish came on the Finger Lakes Black Mamba! 47 feet down 40 feet back. After we landed that fish I made a switch on my back rigger. I put down an NK I won a few years back. Im not sure the name of the spoon so I call it the Green Rouge! Its a Green MAG with 3 neon green dots with black surrounding the dots. Anyway I set that spoon 30 feet back 60 feet down. It wasn't in the water for a minute and that rod fires off with a small steelie. I set that spoon back down and 5 minutes later it fires off with a very nice steelie probably about 10lbs. We played around in the 100 foot mark and were marking fish but couldn't get anything to go. Surface temp out in 200 was 42 degrees, but in the 100 foot it was 55. We were off the water by 11. We went 7-8! Good Luck, Tight Lines, Screaming reels Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Well 2 weeks off the Lake, it was very refreshing to be back out! Anyway left the launch around 7:00 and motored West and set up in front of Devils nose! Started setting up in 70fow and trolled North 4 rigger rods 2 diver rods! We hit the 150 mark and trolled back in. Didn't move a rod for the first hour and we finally marked our first fish 45ft down over 100fow and the rigger rod fires on my Dads side with a Laker! Fish came on the Finger Lakes King of Sting with the green back! After releasing that fish the wire on my Dads side starts bouncing with Mr. Skippy King on it! Fish came on a warrior UV alewife spoon! There was a lull in the fishing for another hour or so, and the wire on my Dads side fired with a 15lb Laker over 150fow! Fish came on Warrior UV alewife spoon again! We started making switches to white spoons because of how many dead alewifes were on the surface of the Lake. After everything was set back up had a HUGE rip on the wire again but fish didn't stay on for very long just a knock off. Another lull in the fishing for another 30 minutes until the rigger rod on my side fired off with a big fish! Fish broke me right off. Came on a White and Purple glow moonshine spoon, 80ft down over 200fow. I then proceeded to put a white spin doctor and fly combo down on that rigger! Wasn't in the water for 5 minutes and the rod fired off! Landed a 10-12lb King! 80ft down over 150fow. We started to call it quits by 12:00 as I was pulling in my wire the wire on my Dads side started screaming! 400ft of line was pulled off in a matter of seconds! 10 minutes later we put a 18-20lb King in the Boat! Fish came on the Warrior UV alewife spoon! In 90fow! All in all good day! 6-8 not bad! We found a temp break in 200fow with 43 degree surface temp and in 150 it was 50 degree surface temp. A small scum line out in 170! Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Heading out tomorrow after a couple weeks off the Lake. We are now at Sandy, we were out of Wilson during the LOC Tournament and had another outstanding tourney! But we are at Sandy, hoping to extend our success! What has it been like? Good luck, Tight lines, and Screaming reels Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. 95 feet down over 200fow! Fish came on a Mag 42 second spoon, Trolling between Wilson and Olcott in the last weekend of the Spring Derby 2012.
  14. If I were you I'd stop fishing, and do some homework! Your grammar is terrible! Please explain the ego part. Where do I go around flashing an ego? Do I ever mention any of OUR, not my, tournament success on this website or any other? NO I don't. My goal is helping people catch more fish. From the responses I get it seems I'm doing very well on accomplishing my goals. To bad the only way I can fish is if my grades are 85 and above, and also I LOVE the fact you aren't denying sending me that message calling me young and dumb haha, funny thing is your suppose to be a professional and you say stuff like that to a teenager come on. See your saying the Salmon is the King of the Lake. Now don't me wrong people come from all over to catch Kings, but if it wasn't for stocking programs in the 1900s there would be NO such thing as the Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) or Steelhead for that matter. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Brown Trout were also stocked from over in Europe? Now I could be wrong, but I read an article about it. Now you take those stocking programs out of the picture what is the native population Lake Trout member of the Char family, Atlantic Salmon, and Brook Trout in the more central part of the State. Now then tell me what would the LOC base it all off now Atlantic Salmon don't get as big as Lake Trout, so it's going to be Lake Trout. Your saying Kings are the King of the Lake because you don't like Fishing for any other species in the Lake. Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Noooooo Rick he isnt a Captain, he is a young and dumb 16 year old kid like me. Yeah remember that I think you do I still have that message you sent me on this site. With all do respect you have the bigget ego on Lake Ontario, what you think cause you won a Challenge Cup you think your the best on the Lake? You wait my buddy Allaboutfishing and I we will grow up and not be so young and dumb and catch more fish than you cause all you like doing is chasing Kicker Kings Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Way to go Brian!! Dad and I have yet to get out this year busy working on the boat for her annual trip up to Niagara County for the Spring Derby, tell Jason I said hi, and plan on getting you guys out with us soon!! Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I mean Lake Trout is a part of the Char family but still they can grow as big or bigger than Kings so I still dont understand why that rule is put into place the Grand Prize fish should be the biggest fish out of all 5 species you can place in the Tourney Salmon, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Steelhead, and Walleye Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. The thing I dont get is its Lake Ontario Counties Trout and Salmon Derbies, so I dont understand why a Laker that out weighs a King loses grand prize spot. Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Gotta love the Penn Yans my dad and I have one a 21.2 1986 Sent from my GT-P3113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
