  1. Well the old Penn Yan is finally put in the barn for her long winter rest. She will be out in 6 months to start to be prepared for the 2014 trolling season. She will have a new canvas top in the color blue, also will have new gear on board. Im gonna miss it this winter but cant wait for a successful 2014 season coming up!!
  2. Bac right side just like everyone said lay on your side(right) put your chest against belt pulleys should be able to reach filter with your hand. Been finding mine for 18 yrs. good luc cdq's dad.
  3. Here goes lots good advice u just got. 30 plus yrs. trolling leave your lines in. I always turn on big fish sometimes have to pull dipsey out on one side fish dictates what u do. When u turn on a fish u can controll him better. U have less line out. We've all lost fish because of slack line or call it belly. When u turn on a fish u can keep him on one side the slow side. Good time keep eyes on other rods because now your other lures have sped up and climbed higher in the water. Plugs will dig deeper. Also when u turn it tells other boats what your doin. And keeps your boat between your fish and there boat not there boat runnin over your fish. Best practice for this Niagara bar springtime. This subject could go on and on no real bad way. The fish wil tell u what to do. Some come in hot. Always move your rods to open up bac of the boat as mentioned earlier. Again depends on boat/ beam/ rigger lay out. I hav 4riggers don't use 4all the time. Good luc cdq's dad.
  4. Get the fishhawk it's worth it the new units are nice smaller probes. Been fishing with speed and temp units since 1986 still fishing with a ray Jeff 285 camandtroll . Put new raymarine combo depth/GPS on this yr. go with as big a screen as possible. I'm still using my garmin GPS from1995 as backup that and marine radio. Good to go. Don't need spend a lot . Get quality products. I would much rather fish on a boat. With speed and down temp. Then without. Had that before GPS bac in the 80s dodger squid speed critical. With the big metal blades. Good luc cdq's dad
  5. Nice Job!!! Congrats on the king! And very excellent report!

Good place to start. Good luck! Bullet proof unit. Got new raymarine combo unit this yr. but I still use the garmin 240

  10. Haha will do Denis just need to get you out there!!
  11. Well we took my older brother and his buddy out yesterday. It was our first time trolling in 2 months so we didnt know specifically what we were going to do. We cleared the rocks at about 7 and pointed the nose NW we started setting up in about 230 feet of water and trolled N hoping for a temp break (couldn't find it) after about 45 minutes the side rigger on my dads side fires off with a steelhead fish came on a king of sting spoon. Fish ended up throwing the hook at the back of the boat. I wanted to make a switch on my side ended up popping the back rigger rod to see a skippy king we were dragging. Fish came on a Mag NK black silver and copper color. Another 30 minutes went bye and the wire fired with a good sized brown caught in 400 foot of water. Fish came on a size 28 DW Frog. We ended up picking another steelhead on the wire. Fish was about 8 pounds. A lot of fleas offshore making it difficult for us so we decided to pick them and run in. We started setting up in 170 feet while I was setting my wire out the outside rigger started screaming. We placed a 20-22 pound king on the deck. Fish came on a silver streak Black Fin Tuna 55 feet down 50 feet behind the ball. Shortly after releasing that fish the wire on my dads side fires off with another good sized steelhead. Fish came on the DW Frog again. Things slowed down again so we wanted to start pulling them and call it a day because I needed to be at Dwyer stadium at 7 to play a baseball game for my 15u team. But before we did that my dad told me to drop his back down rigger to 120 feet and sure enough that rod fired with a teenage king 14lbs. Fish came on the Black fin Tuna. That was our last fish of the day. We went 6-8 on the day. We ended up winning our baseball game 10-3. I went 2-3 with a walk RBI scored twice and 7 stolen bases.
  12. Has anyone who has been out of Sandy Creek so far this summer have seen the fleas show up. Havent hit the water in 2 months and cant wait. So if anyone has seen fleas please PM me or reply to this thread please and thanks. Good Luck and Tight lines
  13. Great report!!!! Going to be up there on Saturday for the first time out this summer
  14. Nothing lighter than 25 lbs flo-carbon and rig it the same length as your rod your using so for example if your using a 10 foot wire rod then the line distance between the diver and your choice of lure then you run 10ft of line between them.
  15. At the marina at the south tip of I-Bay last weekend I saw a 24 foot center console trophy04 and a 24 trophy walk around
  16. Manuals but I learned a trick to make a manual into an electric if you go on youtube and look up making manual downriggers into electric you will find a guy taking a normal battery powered drill and take the hand crank off and use the drill to pull the ball up and down
  17. Or it looks like a lake systems downrigger
  18. My guess would be an old big jon or an old invader
  19. Black and clear works well for us... but just keep on experimenting who knows you may find a multicolored diver with sparkles on it to work hahaha
