  1. Got out with the wife today. Hit the water about noon and headed east. Was out the day before with WNYFfisherman and his crew and only caught two lakers. Set up in 60 feet of water in front of Keg Creek and trolled east at 2.5 sog. Spread consisted of two riggers one with a Bloody Nose spoon and the other one with a Glow frog spoon dragging the bottom, two wire Dipsey's with SD/ flies and two 7 color LC's with spoons on the boards. Marked a lot of fish on the bottom and a few down 35 ( hence the 7 colors). Slow going at first then doubled up with a 15 lb king on a Sea Sick Wadler off the lead and a Laker off the Dipsey. Wife reeled in her first fish a nice spring king!!! A short time later she landed another Laker off the Dipsey. Had a nice afternoon and wrapped it up with only three in the boat. All were between 60 to 90 fow. My buddy Chris and his crew were out near us and they landed 5 Lakers on the same program as us. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I added the bolt and nut for weight and epoxied in the steel sleeves but was unable to find my soldering iron to melt the gap closed. I did find a tube of JB plastic repair putty in my electrical drawer so I thought I would give it a go. It's the two colored putty that you knead together and then it hardens. I pressed it into the gap and scraped the extra off with a flat bladed screwdriver. It worked flawlessly yesterday! Quick simple solutions to make the Clipper that much better. Thanks everyone for the great advice.
  3. fin-addict, We get them from a guy named Harvey who lives in Watkins Glen. I just met him the other day and what great guy to talk to and he really knows his stuff about Seneca Lake fishing. Had a blast listening to him. Great guy and great service. Here is a link to one of his classifieds posts; http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/35828-16-pound-torpedo-weights-finally/ Just PM him, he goes by Troutman 87 and he will hook you up.
  4. Two different ways with the same results. Nice job. That's why this site is the best. Great people who don't mind sharing and helping each other out.
  5. I love the AO's Clippers but had a hell of a time yesterday getting them down and staying down the line in the wind and rain. This thread is perfect timing and I just got done sleeving two dozen releases. Can't wait to get out on the lake and try them. Noticeable difference in weight should really help them get down the line and not blow back. I only run rubber bands when pulling coppers. I found the shock absorber of the bands helps with false releases on the heavy coppers when trolling in waves. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. This is a Fishpond Shooting Star Chest / Backpack. Can be worn a simple chest pack with two choices of neck straps (long or short) and a waist strap or can be attached directly to the backpack which has several compartments, rod tube holders on the sides, rainfly in a zippered compartment, adjustable shoulder and waist straps and water bottle holders on the sides. It is used but in excellent condition. These sell for $190 and I'm asking $95. I prefer local pick up in West Seneca (near Buffalo) or can ship with buyer paying shipping. Mike
  7. This is a Fishpond Waterdance Guide Pack. It is brand new except I did load it up with equipment but never left the house with it. If you never had a Fishpond vest or pack they are simply awesome. Perfectly designed for Steelhead or fly fishing. There are tons of pockets and super well thought out. It is a waistpack but has the neck strap and can be converted to a chest pack in seconds. They sell for $99 I'm asking $65. I prefer local pick up in West Seneca (near Buffalo) or can ship - buyer pays shipping. Mike
  8. I run the same as Doghouse. I run my lines off the boards 140, 130, 120 on each side and will re-deploy when I get down to 80. Speed this time of year I run 1.8-2.2 SOG and will pick up a bit when the water warms.
  9. Thanks Vince I think I will look for something with more glass and a little cheaper. I have a couple of Classic Pros but they feel like broom sticks!!
  10. I'm looking for a couple of new downrigger rods for salmon fishing. I like the Okuma Coldwater rods in 7' M/H paired with Convector 30's. These are pretty new and I was wondering if anyone has tried them out salmon fishing yet. There's not much feedback on the inter-web yet. I like the fact that they are graphite and a smaller diameter than the GLT Pro's but want to know how well they work on salmon and how durable they are before I plop down $80 a rod. I did look at them at the LOTSA show in Niagara Falls and they seemed like a nice rod. Also any comments on the stainless steel guides they have would be appreciated as I always had ceramic guides on my rods. Thanks, Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I just wanted to let those fly fisherman out there who knew Al Himmel know that sadly Al passed away today at 86. He was a long time member of WNY TU and travelled the world fly fishing (the type of guy who had Joan Wulff's phone number in his address book!). Al was a WWII vet and wrote several fly fishing books about trout fishing in WNY. If you knew Al you know he was an expert fly fisherman and a dry fly snob! I hope wherever he is he has a 20" Brown on his line caught on a dry fly! Tight lines Al!

  13. Darn I have a $30 credit with them. Wonder if I still will if he re-opens. Great guy to deal with. Hope he re-opens. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. I love fisherman! Last couple of years everyone was all upset there was no snow/ice pack to keep the water levels up. Now we're complaining because the baitfish might take a hit. At least your prop won't take a hit this summer!!!!!
  15. Tucker I got the rod holders today. They're in perfect condition and thanks for the super fast shipping!!!
  16. Anthony tpsball is looking for a boat like yours
  17. Look down the classifieds a bit WNYfisherman is selling his 27' Cherokee
  18. Yes he ships priority mail which is like $12 but when you consider he sent me 2 12 lb torpedo and 2 8 lb balls in one box that's not bad Harvey is great to deal with.
  19. So glad the LOTSA show was there because the rest of the Expo was a bit disappointing. I do like to drink but when a whole aisle is taken up by wineries and booze makers it didn't seem to be a "fishing" expo. Although the wife did manage to buy a bunch of non-fishing stuff !!! I thought the LOTSA show was great and I got a couple spoons I've been looking for and a great deal on a couple of reels. Nice job LOTSA.
  20. C'mon where are the bulbs? I loved those things.
