  1. When I have no idea what the dive curve is for a lure, I'll look at the bill of the lure if it looks like a deep diver, I usually try to find 20ft of water and keep letting line out at 2mph until it ticks bottom record line out and of course the depth and then do the math witch usually put me in the ball park. Takes time but at least you have some idea of what the lure is capable of with less line out. Then I'll use this lure in closer to the boat when using the planer boards, or +5ft when figuring out a lead core length. I've noticed with a 50ft fluorocarbon 20# test leader it's 5ft for every color, a diver or not doesn't seem to matter. Oh and that's 27# lead core at 2mph, less speed is deeper and of course faster is shallower. The book says 5 colors back is 33ft so I'm off by 8ft, but add 50ft leader and a diving lure and I'll make up a lot of that 8ft. Then it's a simple method to remember every color with a lure is 5ft.
  2. Looked like nice weather, not very windy, that could explain the no fish scenario. As far as the pickerel, I think he was looking for the party also LOL nice pics. Les keep at them, you'll catch up with them sooner or later.
  3. Yea, I didn't catch which lake it was, but it was lousy full of them YUCK!!!
  4. Nice catch there, it's a shame the rigger puked would be interesting to see if the spoons would of brought out the big boys, all though those pike were nice size, and I certainly didn't see anything crappy about the whole deal. great job and pics. keep em coming !!!
  5. If your boat is about 20 years or newer the shutters in the y pipe should keep the water from backing up into the manifolds, then like the post above said, the water will drain out. The y pipe is part of the exhaust system, and on each side of the y pipe there is a shutter, which is designed to keep the water from backing up the exhaust when backing your boat a little to fast or when you are on the water and it's a rough day and waves are rolling against the back of your boat it does not block 100% of the water so I would leave out the drain plugs in the exhaust manifolds just for safety sakes.
  6. Look up precision trolling app JT was right I was thinking fishing 411, but if you look at what I've spent on these books the app is the way to fly, the were 4 books and I added the price up for what I paid for the 4 books was $120.80 without sales tax and the Precision casting book is outdated, but you still can use it. The pictures in these books are actual size so you can size it up and get a rough idea where it's going to run .The one I have I bought at one of his seminars and was told only people who went to his seminars could buy this one it was never on the open market, so he told us? but all the lures were tested with 10# test mono. The pro edition had like plastic pages with a binder which as time went on you could just buy that page. My big water precision trolling is my back bone this book has dipsys, slide-divers, jet-divers and of course my favorite lead core. He did this with 4 different lines 30# mono 30# braid 30# wire and 10/4 fireline. Now there are all kinds of lines, So I think the $99.95 app with life time up dates is well worth it, with the new line and lures coming out, new & improved this and that if you are a die hard troller the app IMO is the way to fly. Hope this helps you out a little LOL.
  7. Sounds like you might have something going on there slab88, I coyote hunt with electronics and any kind of decoy is a definite plus, with the caller I can set it buy the decoy so the sound and the decoy are working together and the eyes and ears are focused on that and not you, so I can relate to what you got working, like you said once the rut comes into full swing, they wont pay any attention to the direction of the sound, keep us posted on the call, very interesting!!
  8. LOL that's funny, but ya they help thank!! I try. devoknevo, my mothers name is Henrietta, that's an unusual name, so when I see it or hear the name it gets my attention!!
  9. A lot of the lures you buy today have the max depth it will dive with X amount of line out. I write what lure and what the depth is, in a book, because it's easier to look in the book, how many people save the box or the little piece of paper with the dive curve. I have every dive curve book Mark Romanack published. There are 4 or 5 can't remember the exact amount, anyway they are no longer available to purchase at a store, some are on ebay, but very expensive, and with all the new lures out the books to some sort are just out dated, the one I have with the weights and lead core line are still good, some things don't change. Fishing 411 has a APP out with all the new lures with up dates available, so this is the new deal, the APP was finalized buy Apple. Right now it's $100.00 and you get free up dates forever, that's the top of the line APP. you can get them for just the lures you use at $1.99 a piece, I also heard that he sells stickers with the info on the sticker. I got the $99.95 APP because it's supposed to go up in price with popularity, the $99.95 price was just to see what kind of response the APP. gets. If you look it up "fishing 411 app" lets you see how it works with one free lure. At least that's how it was when I ordered it.
  10. I saw the other night river monsters did a show on one of the fingers, showed him in with the eels There were lots of them in a trap of some sort. Then the brave sole let one suck fast to his neck and it was difficult to get loose, not for me!!

    Canal walleyes

Thanks, I see it's about 18 miles to the lake Ontario, I was hoping it was closer to Oneida for his sake, but being that close to Fair Haven is a big plus, being able to fish the break wall, has to be nice for the kings and steel, browns, lots of places to fish. Very nice place, from what I see.

    Canal walleyes

What canal system are you guys talking about? just curious
  13. I just did a real quick check on NY pawn shop regs. and 1 thing is they need to hold an item for a 3 weeks period of time, Pawn shops requires your name ID proof of residence of the purchaser State law pawn shops have to keep detailed records of everything they buy or take as collateral-serial and model #s brand name, Reporting pawnshops have to give reports of their purchases to local police to help identify stolen goods. In some states, a shop has to honor your quest to check their inventory for stolen goods, if you give it a police report on your stolen property. A pawn shop cannot purchase property from someone under 18 I think if you do a little of the leg work the way I see it, the pawn shop could be not in compliance with the law, and it seems like NY has some pretty sticky laws in your favor
  14. Is the call your using a mouth call or like the doe in heat where you flip it over. Or can you guys use electronic calls. From PA. so not calling you out, just don't know?
  15. Congrats on your catch, pike are an exiting fish to catch, pound for pound they definitely hold their own. As a younger lad, my cousin and I couldn't wait to go to Canada to pike fish, up there they hit all day and just about anything, but they can make a mess of things in a hurry. A 2 thumbs up on the tiger, a big plus in your day. Fall always will be my favorite time to fish. Love the pics. keep them coming!!
  16. Being laid up I definitely hade time to do some research on the love and hate that comes with the tiger musky. It seems that the guys that fish a lot for muskies do as much research on the muskies habitat and it's ways of survival as a good walleye fisherman. These fish can grow to tremendous sizes. Most muskies that I did the research on and the fishing shows I watched were on big river systems surprisingly, the St Lawrence river, where the show I watched on the fishing channel was where they told you where to look for the toothy critters, much like the trout they tend to venture into slack water seeking for a easy meal. They unlike their cousin musky don't live as long but are at the top of the food chain. They definitely are a interesting fish to say the least. This has changed my outlook on the musky "Tiger" and that figure 8 thing they do really does work, who would think? they are in a lot of lakes also but the ones that grow to 50" plus so they say are more likely to be in big river systems because there is so much more area for them to be or unknown where they will be, where in a lake system it seldom changes much unlike the rivers, floods ect. Once one figures out a lake and understands the musky it is more likely to be caught and if not released it's gone forever!! It must be a real feel of accomplishment to catch one of these vicious fish, just to see someone get thrashed about the boat trying to land one of these fish is exciting sitting on the couch, many of these fish are caught close to the boat and still it takes some time till it's landed, unlike having a 150ft of line out it seems to take the same amount of time and talent so they don't come off the hook. A look at the lures they use is something out of the ordinary also, you don't go to Walmart for one of those lures, I put perch in the box smaller than most of the lures some of you guys use. Congrats, to anyone that lands one of these fresh water sharks.
  17. My manifolds were the old style called the log style $365.00 a piece and the risers were under $200.00 still a hefty bill after recouping from the cost of the engine itself, and a lot of work, I thought the removal and all the hookup were the worst to do. I did new cables (shift) and new bellows also should outlast the boat. I hope.
  18. Wow what a fish, why it's as wide as the both of you standing together for the awesome picture !!! cangrats
  19. My 8 year old daughter showed me how to do it!!! DA dad? Everybody knows how to do that dad?
  20. ERABBIT, to do that you have to be using the same computer right? I sometimes use a I pad and then us the info I got off that and make my posts off the laptop, so I guess I have to use the same computer to make the web site able to click on and it will take you there, right?
  21. I looked all over the place for the purple 16 gauge slugs, man there rare, Midway USA. said they would have them in the end of this month. Purple 16 gauge slugs They will have them. There was a site that said that there was a close match but not exact. But midway is the only place that had exactly what you wanted
  22. When making a post and would like to add a web site to the post, that all you do is click on the Blue writing and it take you there. how do you do that? not so tech smart PAP.
  23. Since I was old enough to go to Canada fishing my uncle saw a lure advertised on TV. called a MirrOlure and my cousin ordered this lures I got 2 in green and he got 2 in gold/brown and as kids we caught pike and walleyes like nobodies business matter of fact the 13# walleye I got mounted was caught on a MirrOlure. These lures are like no other lure in fact this year they are coming out with a lure that replicates the scales and eyes of a fish like no other lure. I've been using what is called a hood, it simply slips over a small to medium sized minnow, I use this hood when we are after the big smelt eater walleye from the end of June till we pull the boat. the Iland hood with crome plating for long distance flash is scientifically designed and weighted to allow it to be trolled at speeds that it won't washout, and it make rigging simple. I usually troll it at over 2mph at the ball and it is very effective it was designed for the salt water species so I ordered 1 just to try it and it worked great so I ordered 2 more I'm going to try one on the rigger and 1 on a slider this year. I now they work I've caught walleye on them. I haven't fished for 2 years on the account of back complications, but this year will be different. I use the iland hood 910 here is the site. http//www.shopmirrolure/iland-hood
  24. Those are really nice boats, I always wanted a hard top so the 22ft hardtop is my choice, do they all only have outboards? I'm an I/O man
