  3. Mark, Keep it blowing SW and we will be back in the king business by the weekend!!
  4. They try to clip the whole fin, some clipped fish have a little bit of the fin still on them.
  5. Why would anyone not interested in telling/talking about the fishing be on LOU? The question is rethorical of course..........................................................
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 5/5 Time on Water: 7am - 1pm Weather/Temp: partly cloudy Wind Speed/Direction: NE 10 - 15 Waves: 1-2'Surface Temp: Location: West of Pt. Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 20+ Total Boated: 13 Species Breakdown: 8 lakers, 3 coho, 1 king, 1 rainbow Hot Lure: White echip/Moonshine Green Jeans fly Trolling Speed: 1.9 - 3.0 Down Speed: 2.2 - 2.9 Boat Depth: 60-110 Lure Depth: TWC (Total Water Column) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Same crew that wanted the lakers last night, but today I wanted silver. Stayed off the lakers for the first 5 miles in the morning, but there were no fish around. The 3rd straight day of NE wind was doing us no favors!! Moved out and banged a few laker on the Ratchet Jaws and flasher set up above. Capt. Tim from Reel Awakening gave us a dipsy set up with the same flasher and that began to take lakers and a coho. Kept the red flasher/blue flys out on the boards and they added a few coho bites as well. A Moonshine Walleye Sherbert took the king on a slider and bow. Dropped a few other small silvers, didn't find any big kings.
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5-4 Time on Water: 4:30 - 7:70 Weather/Temp: calm sunny Wind Speed/Direction: nil Waves: nil Surface Temp: 46 Location: west of Pt. Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 16 Total Boated: 10 Species Breakdown: 9 Lakers, 1 Atlantic Hot Lure: Moonshine Ratchet Jaw Trolling Speed: 2.4 Down Speed: 2.4 Boat Depth: 88 Lure Depth: 70-88 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I told my clients the Tom report of lots of lakers, they replied that they didn't mind lakers and that is all they had to say! Ratchet Jaw and RV Purple Nurple took most of the fish, the Atlantic was on Moonshine tangerine tiger standard, 3 color core.
  8. Mark, The salmon will do that on a small NE blow, the other issue we had was that the fish were very selective only really wanting a deep copper and only when the sun peaked out. They were not showing up on the finder either. I figure they were high, but never really got my high program crackin'. Very tough day, worked hard for each bite, glad to have a LErie crew to put up with the waves once the fish started. You did miss the best fishing - 11:30 - 1pm. Go figure.
  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Captain Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): May 2 Time on Water: 8 am - 1 pm Weather/Temp: Cold and overcast Wind Speed/Direction: 5-12 ENE Waves: 1-3 Surface Temp: 45 Location: West of Point Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 14 Total Boated: 12 Species Breakdown: 6 kings, 3 coho, 3 lakers Hot Lure: MOONSHINE Silver Flash Trolling Speed: 3 Down Speed: 3 Boat Depth: 58 Lure Depth: 22-55 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== With an 8 am start we had trouble finding fish. Worked our way about 4 miles west and began to hit fish. The 250 copper with the Moonshine Silver Flash took most of the fish. With the NE wind and building waves it was not easy today, we had to work for them. First day this year that the Ratche Jaw didn't produce, found out later that may have been because Tom had it catching Lakers off of Sandy!
  10. When picking a boat I would say the layout is as important as the brand. I like a wide boat. I have extensive experience in a large 8' beam boat and I can tell you that was a world of difference than a 7'6" boat. Weight is important -- but a quandary because you want to be heavy in the water and light on the trailer. All boat buyers should be aware that you can buy alot of glass for $10K -- subtract that from the price of a new alumn boat and there is alot of coin left for dockage and fuel!!
  11. I have used 7 & 8' Shimano TDR heavy action rods with success. Heavy rods with tight drags is a stragety that seems to be effective in landing a high percentage of long copper fish. If they are not hooked well they pull off in the first moments of the fight saving fishing time.
  12. A cheaper route is to go with 20# Big Game in the spring until the fleas show up then add 100' of 30# Big Game to fish the fleas, take it back off in late August. About $7 for 2 reel fulls and you can use it forever...........well almost. CC
  13. Nice!! Tried for some browns Sat evening in the same area with no luck on that species.
  14. I also just realized that Ed (Bobber Down) is holding the laker, but he did not catch it, my brother-in-law Jack caught it.
  15. JR, You are perceptive -- I did tell a little fib about Tom, but not about the laker!!
  16. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4-29 Time on Water: 6:30 - 9:30 Weather/Temp: Sunny/cold Wind Speed/Direction: NW 10 Waves: 2' Surface Temp: 46 Location: West of Point Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 9 Species Breakdown: Kings 8, Lakers 1 Hot Lure: Moonshine Ratchet Jaw Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.8 Boat Depth: 70 - 110 Lure Depth: 38-65' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took my friends, Tom (Fishinman), Shawn (FX), Ed (Bite Me) and Jack for a few hours of fishing before Church. We had a great morning if you ever get a chance to take a chef fishing you should as he (Tom) was in charge of the food. Sort of hard to describe -- Filet Mignon, egg, sharp swiss, horseradish sauce on a ciabatta bread roll!! Gourmet brownies, truffles (for Shawn) and cinnamon rolls!! We we set up on a west troll and first rod to fire was 200' copper -- but we missed it The next one hit the same rod and after a long run and short chase we slipped the net around this monster that pulled the boat scale to 30#. The action continued as the MOONSHINE Leopard I taped up last night to look like a frog began heat up down 45 and the Ratchet Jaw on the 58' rigger also began to contribute to the fun added a king on a V-neck and blue smoothie fly behind a white flasher 160' on a dipsy and we were out of time and had to head for the dock.
  17. Fishing Report Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4-28 Time on Water: 2:30 - 7:30 P< Weather/Temp: Sunny/Cool Wind Speed/Direction: WNW <5 Waves: <1 Surface Temp: 45 Location: West of Point Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: +/-20 Total Boated: 18 Species Breakdown: 8- Kings, 2 - Coho - 8 - Lakers Hot Lure: MOONSHINE Ratchet Jaw Trolling Speed: GPS 2.7 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 60-90 Lure Depth: 45-65 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Local clients were scheduled to fish the morning, but the kid's baseball game from Monday was postponed to Saturday Morning. I suggested adjusting the fishing schedule to the afternoon. The clients were worried about missing the "HOT" action of the morning, I told them not to worry, the action would be hot all day!! And it was......... the crew arrived just after 2 pm and we motored out to 50 fow and began a west troll. Committed to run only Moonshine spoons and Flies I began setting out the favorites as well as one of the new RV series spoon. My helper snuck a frog lure from one of the other Captains. The Ratchet Jaw on the 200' copper drew first blood with dandy 20+ King. The next couple fish would bite the Frog and I began to question my loyalty to the MOONSHINES just when the other five rods fired in quick succession netting us a pair of lakers, a coho and a pair of kings. Nonetheless, I searched my tackle box at the end of the night to find a frog like Moonshine and found one that Ed and I thought might work, we just needed to wait for the morning. Hottest lures were the Ratchet Jaw on the 200' (44' down) and 65' and the R&R frog at 55, other moonshines taking fish: Bad Toad, Silver Anchovey, Red Tiger, RV Crab face.

Found a small school of cookie cutter browns just before the park, action was mostly on the rapalas. Made several circles till we had the limit and made it to the Village Inn by 11!
  19. Fishing Report Captain Carl Bish/ Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4-21 Time on Water: 6am - 2pm Weather/Temp:rain & cold Wind Speed/Direction: N 10-14 Waves: 1-2' Surface Temp: 46-48 Location: West of Point Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 30+ Total Boated: 23 Species Breakdown: Browns (12), Lakers (6), Kings (2), Coho (2), Atlantic (1) Hot Lure: Black/gold #11 rapala, Moonshine Ratchet Jaw, Moonshine V-neck Trolling Speed: 3mph Down Speed: Boat Depth: 10 - 100' Lure Depth: 3' - 80' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Trolled west from pumphouse to Green Harbor for brown trout, Rapalas on the board and Ratchet jaws on the riggers, moved north at Green Harbor. Early in the day and needing additional action we moved out to fill the laker limit, picked at them until the salmon began hitting. 200' copper with mag Ratchet Jaw took both kings. The fishing made up for the awful weather.
  20. This laker was in today's mix and made the day of the angler!!
  21. Fishing Report Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/19 Time on Water: 5:45am - 8:45am Weather/Temp: sunny cool Wind Speed/Direction: W5 Waves: <1 Surface Temp: 46 Location: West of Point Breeze LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 4 Species Breakdown: Lakers Hot Lure: Moonshine Ratchet Jaw Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.8 Boat Depth: 70-100 Lure Depth: 40-60 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Had a little trouble finding the fish, Lakers were real sluggish, not even releasing the same releases they popped with no problem on Sunday. One good rip on a deep (160'/2) dipsy but missed it. Not sure where the kings were (had a hunch) and did not have the time to look.
  22. I have to agree with Capt. Vince, fish when you can. When asked the best time to go salmon fishing I will tell clients -- RIGHT now and if you can't go now than go tomorrow morning. I have a friend that fishes evenings out of Bear Creek and he puts up some impressive one man numbers. He goes all season long never goes very far from shore. He had a great after work fish this past Friday.
  23. They ranged from 7# to 29# with most in the 10 - 20# range, you can see them at my youtube channel "salmocharters"
  24. All bets are off in the spring, I believe bait, structure, light trumps the slight temp differences when they are in <100 fow
