  1. I wear thin long sleeve uv and insect repellant shirts from columbia and soak them in water. Combine that with the canopy on the boat and i have no problem fishing sun up to sun down on the hottest days. I wont sit in the sun and let it beat on my skin unless im taking a swim and im in and out if i do that. Justin
  2. I have a new respect for all of you musky hunters! Dont know how you guys are able to get good pics and measure and safely release the monsters you catch with only 2 people! We were so overmatched I felt helpless. Boats all around im trying to work on the fish, drive with the remote. While she held the net and told me which way to steer watching out for the other boats, lines still out, and she could barely hold the net with both hands. I had all the stuff, hook cutters, spreaders, big net, fairly heavy tackle and its a miracle it swam off! Water is way too far down on a pontoon, but I didnt lift it with the net. All the while im frantic she is totally calm no big deal! Always thought id mount a fish like that but I couldnt kill it...have absolutely no idea of its size only that it was much bigger than the almost 42 from last year or sure seemed it. Surreal...sr9 was just crushed...think she wanted me to keep it but that wasnt gonna happen..sorry im long winded but had to get this down as I use my posts as a journal. 3. Justin took me out after a swim & we trolled the East side. I no sooner got two rods out on boards & the right side rod started screaming! After a great battle I FINALLY got my first tiger musky! Caught it on a perch shad rap 9, 20 down over 40 fow, Gps speed 3.1. Not sure exactly how big fish was due to the fact that we had no way of measuring a fish over 40 today! Fish was only out of water for 10 sec & a safe release! Sorry pic is over zoomed but Justin was in his boxers & fish was to big for me to handle! Second pic of me with destroyed shad rap! All in all AWESOME weekend...GREAT weather & an Otisco SLAM....walleye, tiger musky, lmb, smb & brown trout! This weekend marks 52 weeks with our boat. THANKS LOU...for without all of you we would have never come so far so fast!!!!! ~ Tracy ~ Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Nice!! Thats what im talking about...big eyes...Im still dreaming of my first trip to big water, but its a long haul for me and a 8mph pontoon isnt the boat... Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Ill take otisco over oneida for walleye everytime! Catch rates are much higher at oneida if you like little walleye...but how many 5-8 pounders do you hear of per fisherman...I. have 6 this week and im on way back out after an 8 this morn... 6. Rnsurfnturf and I teamed up this morn on my boat to get this nice 27.5 inch 8pounder on a perch tdd11 30 down over 50 fow. Fished all morn with 1 bite...big tiger made off with my eriedescent reef runner. We swithed tto the east side and tryed for a reaction bite...3.1 mph on the gps and immediatly had this toad! 7. Went out last night and trolled to midnite and had one good bite, and even though I was standing there when the fish hit I had no chance at it. Fish seemed to be deeper than normal last night. My 1 bite was on eriedescent reef runner down 28 over 45-50fow. Fish were really related to the ends of the points, but not on them as much as ive been seeing. Almost as if the weren't active yet. Really prefer fishing in the morning and daylight so Im ready for Saturday. So that ends my streak of 1-2 big walleye on 3 consecutive trips out, not that many would consider that good fishing, but I love the challenge. justin
  8. Nice job Kevin, two real nice fish. Been wondering when you were gonna start putting up some st. Lawrence walleye pics up, and thanks for the report. Has it been a slow start up there? justin
  9. Correct....I catch over half of my walleyes on the big deep divers. They work well at otisco especially in the summer because the oxygen levels drop off below 30 feet so walleyes tend to hang around 29-30 feet. That combined with the fact that the reef runners will only go down about 28 make it an easy fit. I use TDD11's too inside the reef runners as they have a steeper curve and you can run just about anything else on the outside as most everything has a shallower curve. I can post the dive curve if someone needs it, or most others for that matter. The options are endless when you combine diving crankbaits, clip weights, lead core, and riggers. I am just starting with the core and clip weights and so far I do best with deep divers, but Im gonna run some harnesses this weekend with both and see which the walleyes prefer. justin

  11. I am taking mine off now also as I had mine tampered with in the driveway and didn't notice till it started coming off on Cayuga last Friday. Thankfully I noticed in the nick of time and saved it!!! The idiot who attempted the theft apparently wanted the bases too and gave up after two bolts probably because of my dogs. Cant believe two bolts held as long as they did. Thankfully my nylock nuts and Loctite slowed the thief down. Luckily I had nuts and bolts on board to fix things after a bunch of screaming and hollering trying to hold it on and start a nut on a buggered bolt. You can see where everything is buggered up from a pair of pliers. No harm done and lesson learned. justin
  12. We have been catching a brown or 2 almost everytime out at Otisco for walleye all season. They have been 13-16 inches with the exception being a 12 lber I saw caught right next to me as I passed back in May. tdd 11s mostly...didn't catch any last summer or fall. justin
  13. Cant everyone! Im from Berkshire and it was taught in school out there! lol Welcome!! Used to ride 4 wheelers to Seebers and Bills little bar in my drinking days! justin
  14. Took my son and his friend out to bass fish and just when we got out we get a downpour. We waited it out under the top, and after 45 min it cleared off, but we couldn't seem to land a bass. At dusk we got out the trolling rods to troll in and picked up my son's friend, Robert, his first decent 'eye a nice 24"er pic to follow. Still no pattern what so ever but that's 3 evenings in a row with a nice fish or two. This one was on eriedescent reef runner down 28 over 30-40fow speed 2.1 avg on gps. Didn't mark much bait or fish but was lucky enough to get one. Just cant quite get into em, but I feel like im not far off. The few that we've been getting have really put up a fight coming in/up, much more so than any others Ive caught. justin
  15. The turtle bay bite early was incredible! My son and I had a ball with them. Now you have to earn them because there is cover. We still stop in to turtle bay and get a few each time as the water is still up enough but you have to fish almost vertically with all the growth, and know where they are. Sunday we got 6-8 working 10-15 ft of water along the causeway with wacky rigged senkos in purple and baby bass. We work the inside edge of the weeds out in front of turtle bay and around the narrows. The pond side of the causeway has plenty of bass too. We found that patience with wacky rigged worms produces well right now and the fish don't seem to want you twitching the bait just let it sink at sit and methodically fan cast. Our boat best bass this season is 24" and over 8lbs. Caught walleye fishing casting a jerkbait at 220 am! BTW we catch lots of bass doing this from dark to dawn. "Bass fishing" in middle of the night is fun way to fish for walleye during new and full moons, but we get far more bass than walleyes, and its cooler out just bring your thermacells and keep the hat lights off the water! They are in there for sure. For smallies we drop shot gulp bait between the west side points. We are gonna go this afternoon... my boys day off. justin
  16. So much for a summer pattern starting...fished from 730pm to 1230pm starting out were I left off last night and 1 brown. So we changed it up a couple times moving shallower and finally got a 22" and a 24" in close enough that I had to go around floating docks. Blue was the color 10 ft down in 12 to 20 fow...tried 4 perch patterns, gold clown, firetiger, crystal, and eriedescent first and still had a couple of those colors running when blue worked immediately. Tolling speed was 2.2 same as last night, No idea if we would have done better if we tried it earlier. Just took too long to find something...I think I should have gotten harnesses out but with only 2 people and just six rods we didn't have time. Cant wait to get on a semi consistent pattern, but any time I catch 1 good walleye its a success. My buddy Scotty fished with me and he did great, and worked the lines nonstop changing lures and keeping em clean! The 22 incher fought so well we were sure it was a brown, as we couldn't keep it behind the boat and it even crossed the first line on the opposite side. No real big fish tonight, but happy to see Otisco yield 2 days in a row. justin
  17. I think we've had this discussion a week or so ago... justin
  18. Ill take weeds and fleas over sitting on the couch. Fleas are much worse on Owasco, and summer trolling is all about finding clear surface water. I used to be so excited to get lines in the water that I didn't cruise at all to look for weed free areas, but now im a bit more patient and smarter. There is no easy answer it just takes work and time on the water, and of course luck and reading LOU posts even old ones from the same time of past years helps me come up with ideas. justin

  20. We drove home filleted em and had a family meal after 11pm consisting of lemon pesto walleye and rice to cap off our July 4th weekend. My son fishes for bass everyday, but I love it when he runs lines with Tracy and I! justin
  21. Put the boat back on Otisco after some maintenance and fishing Cayuga, Owasco and Dorchester, and first cast we were in the bass till dusk and I had to drive away from the spot to get my son to stop so we could start our evening walleye troll. I was laying my third line and fish on. Lost my biggest walleye of the year at the boat, but we were on em! 2 nice fat walleyes including a personal best for my son at 24"! Three bites in less than an hour on the same gold clown reef runner is a FRENZY at Otisco. Finally they are back on pattern exactly the same as last July. June was awful, but great start to July. Had to quit as the weather was very nasty. Gonna a try tonight again, and have to go back and clean up our mess on the boat anyway, looks like a bomb went off. I guess it did in the form of weather. justin
  22. Tracy and I started on the north end and trolled the west side from 9 - 2. We had a ton of good marks from 90-160 fow, but couldn't find any takers. I worked from 20' above the thermoclime to 20' below it with riggers and dipseys, and from the surface down to 45' off boards. Have to say I loved Owasco, but its busier than I thought possible with very loud very fast boats that really were annoying. Seemed like everytime I raised the ball it was swinging violently from the massive wakes from a few people that have no courtesy what so ever. My son finally saved me from the fleas and confrontation when he got out of work and we went bass fishing on Otisco. Switch to walleye trolling at dusk and they were biting reef runners in gold clown down 25-28 0ver 60. My son got a personal best 24" football, and I lost my biggest walleye this year and maybe ever, just leaned on him to hard trying to get him to come up. Took it while I was laying my third rod. 2 big walleyes in 30 min then the weather looked too ugly for the family. Great day overall and ended with lemon pesto walleye over rice....and NO FLEAS on Otisco. justin
  23. My son has VIP purchase privileges for seaguar and few other companies so dad gets most stuff about 50% off msrp, but otherwise I AGREE its too pricey when you tie leaders on 10 rods at least once a week and often times after every fish at Otisco. justin
  24. I fished Cayuga yesterday and the west side was the only place to get away from the weeds. As for the fleas...I got used to them just one more thing...they usually collected at the eyes and I stripped them down to my barrel swivel and they come right off. The cottonlike fuzz on the other hand at Otisco will drive you crazy in may/june. If anybody thinks Cayuga is slow for numbers on trout don't try walleyes in the finger lakes!!!! Owasco tomorrow ill try to do a live post or two if we get into anything. justin
  25. Best landlocked salmon I caught today on Cayuga were on matching spoon and flasher...little awkward with the extra length behing the dipsey but no probs and it worked great... justin
