  5. Tracy and I enjoyed a windy afternoon and a beautiful evening trolling. We got 1 nice eye 23 inches, anice smb, and a brown. We had 2 good hits that dropped. Fish were a bit deeper eye was at 28. Smb and brown were on a hot n tot of the rigger at 32. We had fish taco's for dinner camping...be back out at 430am! 6. Nice work...there's something about catching fish on a good old fashioned bucktail...I fish them quite a bit in the susquehanna river...do you tie your own? I keep saying ill make my own, but my buddies dad makes some good ones right here on the southside and isn't expensive. Weather looks tough down here but ill get out somehow..i hope! justin
  7. Sorry i forgot the most important part....awesome fish...its a beauty... Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. I think the trout and salmon guys are more active as a group and therefore the dec listens to them. Walleye fisherman are notorious for being a more secretive bunch. The walleye guys arent as organized and therefore dont get the dec's attention. The fingerlakes mean trout and its because of active trout anglers who help preserve trout water and promote the fish they seek. Walleye fisherman would get a lot more attention if we banded together. Now we have a muskies inc chapter in western ny that was started on this site. If anyone else out there has any ideas on this im all ears. Just look at the views on every walleye topic, yet only a dozen of us or so post anything about the fish that we catch. The dec doesnt even know how many guys target walleye because they are tight lipped. Most guys wont even mention the name of the lake the fish came from let alone details. It starts with sharing and organizing as a group. We have enough walleye fisherman here on this site to make a difference if we simply do what the other groups do.... 9. Took my son's bass fishing partner out trolling last night in hopes of some action as he brought his gopro setup to video. Needless to say it was about the slowest trip of the month. We only managed 4 bites, and 2 were little browns we didn't even hook. Fortunately the other two were a 5-6 lb smallie and a 21" eye on the way way in off the riggers. I didn't do well filming him, driving, and netting, but if there is any decent footage ill post it. Weeds were only bad where I was marking as luck would have it, but the smallmouth was his biggest ever and the eye wasn't too shabby though he did better last year with us. LOU member rnsurfnturf joined us for the last bit and as usual worked his tail off with the weeds...I didn't do him any favors as I got more and more into the weeds as the night went on trying to prevent the skunk on eyes. Finished the month with 2 days on Cayuga, 1 on owasco, 1 on Whitney point res, and 15 days on Otisco and caught walleyes on all but 1 Otisco trip, and had no skunks if you count a nice owasco bluegill trolling. The July highlight was Tracy's monster tiger, but just getting all of our friends and family in on the action does it for me. Id like to think I helped out a few others along the way too. Almost went tonight with my son, but we are on our way down to the Susquehanna tonight as we stopped and checked a couple holes on the way home from work and the level and flow is right for musky, walleye, and smb in my favorite stretch. My Lou app is struggling but Ill try to get a few pics from last night up when I get home. Justin
  10. For walleyes id run any color as long as it was perch...lol...eriedescent and gold clown in fall...for pike I like loud rattling sticks with clip weights...crankbaits and cover water. justin
  11. If the weeds are floating and under is clear id run riggers. The last week on Otisco has been tough with flat lines and core, but with riggers and sticks or harnesses you can at least keep two rods going. I use deep divers mostly and troll much faster than most with the warm water temps and that 25 ft down sounds right to me give or take a little. The weeds will tell you what's possible and go from there. Sk8man is spot on with Oneida. Its a much better lake for eyes unless you want the extra challenge. Otisco, Conesus, Ontario to name a few are notorious for hard to catch big eyes, but there are a few guys that do well. Let us know how you do and good luck! justin
  12. Ditto here had this happen to me and had such a problem till I figured it out that tracy wouldn't touch a dipsey rod as they would not trip and they are a **** to reel in twisting and tangling worse the whole way. As soon as I used the drag no prob and first time I did got my best ll salmon of the day on the way out, and it zeroed me right in. justin
  13. Joe, As you know its more about hard work, constant learning, patience, and a true love of fishing than going to a certain lake. Granted the species must be present to catch it, but I don't know anywhere that big fish just jump in your boat....and the damn carp in the Illinois river? don't count! But a reliable fishing report never hurt... btw the feeling the guy gets biting the peppermint patty is the feeling I get fishing too...even in the rain...but when I get someone else on good fish its indescribable!! Of course watching them release their trophy prematurely to see a carp is absolutely priceless!!! justin
  14. Congratulations Chad! Enjoy...the pics are adorable! Need a family fishing pontoon next...a big musky catching playpen on toons complete with a head, shade, grill, riggers and boards! justin
  15. Unclemike, First and foremost if you want a nice tiger do some research on a proper net, proper tackle, necessary tools, and proper handling for catch and release or trophy. Trust me when i tell you...you need a plan to handle these fish...especially if you want a safe release. To me the ability to be ABLE to catch and release these magnificent fish is the real challenge...not killing it. Im not a real musky hunter, but if you are referring to otisco i can tell you how i do it. First and hardest part, you have to have some idea where the points are and about where the 20 ft breakline is on each point...then you setup a rapala sr9 or tdd9 in perch to run 18 ft down off boards...then troll 3-3.5 running the bait along and over the points primarily on the west side but can be done on the east too. Its all about location...if you troll to close you'll drag, and too far out and you get nothing...i fish this lake a ton, but go into it knowing it might take several trips. I do this running 6 to 9 rods using side imaging so i can fish for walleye and browns and smb covering a wide range of depths at the same time otherwise you are looking at prob avg 1 bite every other trip...patience and fish hard tigers and eyes are catchable. 16. Tracy and I took her girlfriends husband out this afternoon around 4. He is a bass guy and had seen the pic of tracy's big tiger and wanted us to take him out for one. So I set up my musky rods with shorter set backs so I could get them in tighter on the west side points and walleye set ups on the inside, riggers and core down the chute. Halfway down our troll I get in on a point and outside rod starts screaming...get him on it and when I go to clear the core rod 2nd musky rod is screaming harder...get tracy putting pressure on that one...core is cleared get the net and now we have a real nice 36" plus tiger in the net...get it unhooked quick and tell him to hold the net and keep the tigers head down in the water...get up to help Tracy and she cant budge her fish off bottom...I get on the rod and start really leaning it (80 lb braid 50 lb flouro leader extra heavy st croix)...im thinking carp but its hooked in the mouth...I work him in and its a HUGE carp...I start thinking I need another net when I look over to jason and he is trying to peek up to see the carp and dips the net and we have a good release before he gets his pic...so I tell him to net my carp...lol...carp was hooked in the mouth with a tdd11 26 ft down...all said and done we land a carp, a tiger, 1 nice 22" eye, 4 browns, 2smb, and I stopped trolling so he can get a lmb. 6 species caught in 4hrs. 17. I like Oneida shores but it takes me almost an hour to get out to open weed free areas to troll...my toon only goes 8mph, and needs a deep launch, but Ill make it work for me...just want to go with what will work for the group... justin
  18. There are no fleas as of Sunday morning...Ive never had them at Otisco. As for light line Id strongly urge you to use at least 10 lb leader...Im still using 15 lb flouro and its working but I prob should be using 20 trolling as fast as I do. The tiger muskies tear up the 15 but I can usually land em at least with 15. Had a friend that wanted to try 6 and 8 and he was breaking off on the strike...if you aren't trolling you can definitely go lighter but a vicious musky strike will cut you for sure...the 15lb and up gives you a chance to catch both...The big tiger tracy caught was on 15lb leader and I don't think tigers get much bigger than that one. bait taker, I use a diawa 47lc reel and have 3 core setups, but I only really run 1 down the chute...5 colors with a rapala taildancer 9...I only use harnesses if I cant catch on cranks in the summer...spring and fall Ill run both at the same time as I have to go slow anyways...I troll very fast all summer 3+ on gps...last august I caught 5-6 catfish in row 1 morning on rapala tdd11's from 5-10lbs speed trolling...never caught 1 since! justin
  19. Im not sure I understand what is the downside to making them legal. I know they are different from a bow, but can someone explain how the crossbow will negatively impact current archers. And you cant go with they will kill our deer, they arent yours....I cant think of one reason that will negatively impact hunting. I thought promoting hunting and getting more people involed was a good thing. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. There is still time for us to get some more people involved...I know there is a bunch of you that fish oneida regularly...come join us and lets go fishing! You dont have to launch at south shores just come for the weigh in and sign up here ahead of time. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. I would guess droopy sustained an injury to his right side causing the abnormal rack on the left. I read about that a couple years back and right after got buck like that and it had an old opposite side injury. Only one way to find out.... Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Bait taker was that eye caught trolling, jigging, or casting. Im not looking for exact details just curious...ill be back up this afternoon for a few more of my own with a little luck. Every keeper you catch will have that fat btw. Nice job glad you guys got one! Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Got myself a rubber coated musky net and while I haven't had a tiger last couple times out it is awesome with the walleyes....no more tangled mess...this is gonna make the difference I think. justin
  24. Great report Nick! Impressive fish across the board...you're really locked in! Nice to see it taken to the next level. justin
  25. Thank god the bite cooled and I got off the lake and had the boat taken care before the downpour began. I wouldn't have gone up but its hard not too when you get on a pattern. I couldn't be happier with my current setup and I owe to all of you who make posts and share their ideas and setups. Adding lead core and utilizing my riggers changed the game! justin
