If you are going to cast , spoons are great with maybe a rattle trap or j 13 rapala or diving plug of some sort .
If you are going to troll , j plugs or deep divers like a diving long a bomber .If you don't have downriggers .
I find the fish like water 12 to 60 ft deep for the most part . Start close and work out .
Best time and most consistent will be starting 1 st week of Sept on . First light and Dusk best but it is hit and miss .
I troll out of my 16 ft Alumacraft and have a blast . Just watch the weather . Safety first .

Albeit being inconsistent year to year , I think there is more Nat reproduction on the south shore tribs than most think .
On the west coast the fish have to swim sometimes hundreds of miles to their spawning grounds . In LO it could be in some cases , hundreds of feet . If the eggs hatch , they have a chance .
I have been saying for years that Jurassic park line .
And there fish now aren't your father's Kings.

HBs Grilled Salmon with sweet pickles , vadalia onion and Hoseradish Sauce on Wegmans 6 seed organic Bread. With a Walnut and dried cranberry tossed spring salad ..
It all stars with an expertly caught fillet of King Salmon( Substitute Coho , or Steelhead) from the pristine waters of Lake Ontario .
Season it with fresh lime juice and pulp, crushed Garlic , Montreal chicken or lemon pepper
Take grilled fillet and place on thick slice of bread , add sweet bread and butter pickles , a generous slice of the sweet onion , and cover with Worbles horseradish sauce .
For the salad , some spring mix , chopped walnuts, Wegmans dried cranberries , sliced onion ,sliced tomatoes , optional blue cheese crumbles . Toss with a balsamic vinegar and Splash of extra virgin or Kens lite Northern Italian dressing
Whether it's a lunch , light supper or on the boat , one bite of this bold and hearty sandwich will have you longing for the next release and bringing of the silver to net so you can savor the robust concert of flavors once again .
Aside from the contaminants in the fish ,this is actually a very health meal . And with all the fish we get , we need to figure out what to do with them .
Also I've seen some of you guys . Some of your guts stick out farther than your Johnson .

Well I been doing it since like 1980 and haven't had one I get into them yet , or at least what I can remember .
If they are not in the water and a good one hits and runs , I dump them both to slow down

Anybody know who that dog is ?
Here are a few pics from past trips .
Dude , you ain't got a clue .
Pre goby we use to go to fair haven and drift the lake .
One morning by noon we boasted over 200 bass . And we had many trips like that for many years . There were 5 of us on the boat and my father had a scorecard . I think I landed 53 . And most were keepers . Up to 18"
I know some of those ADK lakes there like the back of my hand. I know right where to go and where to cast . I have a " milk run " . I might catch 7 to 10 fish off one spot but in Saranac , a lot are small . Do that a few times in a mornings fishing and that's 20 bass.
Just because you can't catch them ,don't think others can't .

40 bass in 3 days is hard to believe. Next time post pictures. Fishing today is not nearly as good in the ADK as it was from what I know, that's why many people stopped going there. Acid rain killed alot of the fish in lakes years ago, from what I know. St. Lawrence had fared better, although the pike and muskies not so much. If you are older and have fished both you will probably know this.
Really ? You caught me , you caught the HB . Sounds like you are calling me a liar . I don't think 40 bass in say 16 hrs fishing is " unbelievable " to someone who goes a lot and knows his way around a fishing rod . And a lot of them were not that big .
If you think the fishing in the ADKs is not as,good as it use to be Maybe you need to brush up on your FUNDAMENTALS .I can't imagine how good it was back then . Wish I was there .
I am going to my Happy spot up there this weekend and hear a lot from other campers there are no fish in the lake .
I have landed many big pike up to 20# and lots of bass up to 6# .
I don't post a lot of pics because I don't take a lot of pics of fish, . I figure most on here have seen a bass or pike before . Unless it's a memorable fish .

Back at it this morning first light
Ran out to 330 headed north .
Did not take long till mature hits
Got rods back out ,again another .
Crazy current pushes us off our spot fast. Was hard to get speed right and keep it consistent .
2 more hit and weather rolls in and we high tail it which kind of sucks .
Painted hot spot I call Mr Jeremy Fisher and my Gary D rig took all shots 35 ft down .

Go on coastal watch and get the satellite surface temp map if that's what you are looking for
I did this morning before I went out because I heard lake flipped and made my decision to go off shore .

My opinion this time of year . Don’t worry about temp . Fish the marks. Sometimes less is better. I run all them junk lines in July . Once I target the mature kings, this time of year . I run 2 riggers and 2 dipseys only . I run mostly FF. Big kings go where they want . Sometimes less rods are better .
Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile appI totally agree with this
I would run 4 flashers with meat or fly at first .
One on each rigger one high one lower like 20 ft apart and one on each dipsey to start .
If kings are around and hitting flashers
That will be plenty .
Find fish and stay on them

Im not up there till sept 10th
The start of the " off the mouth " king fishery .
First light / just before dark best .
Start close and work your way out .
Look for fish on the bottom or just off an hr after first light till an hr before dark .
And I Like J Plugs , an underutilized lure IMO .

Nope

Just cured some skein . Thought it would be tighter than it was .

Lake flipped
You want kings , go find stable water
Went out to 300 and headed north
Nothing for our efforts but one small salmon and 2 knock offs
Hit 520 and got a,double of matures
Wound up 6 fish . 5 salmon and a steelhead and about 5 more hits
Dare I say , Gary D rig and spoon bite .
Got 50deg 70 ft down out there
Radar said storms so we headed back in and it was the smart call
Was,pretty choppy 11 miles out.

The mountains care calling and I must go
Headed back up next weekend to my Happy place up there . Boys weekend
Good food and whiskey
And yes it sure do put things in perspective .
You should go , as all should , even for a short trip .
-
Three islands in front of thousand island park .
Good for pike
Some base also .
Haven't been there in years .
My buddy got a 50" musky there .
-
I use a 5/8 or 3/4 spade bit
No flotation
I tie them off on my mid ship cleat and they Run on side of my boat 2/3 to 3/4 back from my bow . I had them so they were in front of my side riggers
You want them so you can grab rope easily to put in or out . And wAke from boat Will kind of push them away from side a little .

35 to 75 + for j plugs
Shallow ,farther back
Deeper can be closer
Mid day doldrums , run it back 125 ft
Look for them mid day on bottom at 50 to 90 ft
Run weights 7 to 10 ft off bottom to account for dive of plugs .
I run my flashers 25 to 35 but no bites on calm seas bright day I have run them back 80 ft to get a hit . Works sometimes .

I'm sure glad we have Tommy at Sandy .

I figured out that my line woes were more bite offs than break offs . Some of them were ahead of the head . I think they were swallowing the whole thing .
Solved that with 50# braid through head allbrighted Just ahead of the baithead ton 25 # .
Never had a break off from diver to lure .
I use 30 or 40 big game we for that .
I'm still not a fan of Flouro .
-
You need 2
Green glow j plug
Silver red head j plug
Your choice of #3 or # 4
And I agree
One flasher / fly

Maybe someday
-
Got to love that flourocarbon !
-
If you can get one manual downrigger and mount it where you can deploy and get at it safely and easily it will be a big addition .
Get a few J plugs and come up to LO 3 rd week in Sept to middle of Oct for shallow kings .
There are a lot of nice flat mornings you can fish .
Go to the Oak and bring bass tackle if it's rough .
Two rods out , are all you need .
I will apologize in advance for giving you your first taste of crack .

It amazes,me the amount of stupidity I read on here
Sitting at the Lumberjack eating breakfast on the way out . 4 days off the grid boys weekend .
Probably landed 30 pike biggest 37 "
40 bass most keepers to 21 ""
More pics to follow after my friends send them to me of their phones and camara .
The less people I see up here the better .
