  3. Nope. I have an old 1974 caravelle. Faded gold/yellow color. Has a Bimini top which is sometimes unfolded and sometimes not. Has a 70 hp Johnson and a 9.9 Evinrude kicker. Has wide brown stripe down side. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  8. Sounds like Steelheads, or maybe cohos if they were jumping. Maybe the king's moved east? The lady got the 32 loc leader at the bar yesterday though I guess. But no good place to launch there it says on the website. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Gee wiz Joe, way to hurt my pride! LOL. I guess I need more Salmon Schooling. We just could not get a King. One of the 3 we lost was another Coho. The other two were nice Steelheads. If you don't mind sharing, can you tell me where you found the Kings, for my education, so next time I will know something to try. One time I did try real deep 150 feet , but I didn't keep it there for very long. The rest of the time my riggers were one at 50-65 and one at 80- 90. Most of the fish were caught on a 30 lb mono chinook diver, with a BassPro Holgraph thing, trailed by a spoon. The weeds did not bother that as much as the SD's, which were constantly weeded up until I removed them. We fished from 15 out to I'd say 330. Most action was deeper, on steelheads. Thanks, Garry.
  10. Status update on Fort Niagara Launch(s)- July 22. I may got o Fort Niagara Sunday July 23rd, instead of my usual Olcott, since Olcott was slow Friday, and from the Reports today (22nd) seems to be still slow. Has anyone been there lately? Last time, (Months ago) the water was over the docks, and one dock was closed. Thanks.
  11. Sounds like us yesterday (21st). Slow at times, very little bait, hardly any fish hooks on screen. Deeper was better for us. 290-330. Deep water Steelhead made out day. Kings were absent. Going out again Sunday, so I will be watching your reports. Thanks.
  12. Ok, well I am going to ty wrap a pinch pad on, and hope for the best, and we will only net head first, as we have always done. The tail first, and letting the fish slide back into the net, has not been successful. Thanks for all the tips.
  13. Today it worked fine. I think rough water must make a big difference. Today was calm. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Thanks I would also like to see the pinch pad gizmo. Also, Sk8man, I always thought you were supposed to net them from the head first....maybe my buddy is onto something, but needs to improve his aim!.
  15. I just took off all my braid because the fleas were so bad Sunday. Do they get on wire? I thought they did.
  16. Netting Techniques- lost 3 today -bad technique We usually net the fish head first, as we are always told. But today, my buddy said, we need to try a new technique- net them from behind. His reasoning was because when you are trolling along at 2.5 mph, the minute you plunge the net into the water, the net floats right back with the current and creates a difficult situation, as you have no "basket" just a wad of net. I had to agree, and I have experienced this many times. You don't dare stop the boat or you have one hell of a line tangle/ planer board tangle. So, we tried this method, and it worked good....one time. He put the net behind the fish, the basket gaped open as we planned, and I just let the fish slip back into the net. The next two times, we lost both fish. He didn't get the net into the water deep enough, it seems, so when I let the fish back, it slipped right under the rim of the net. The spoon snagged the net, and there rest is a sad fish story. It seems they should make a net that will hold its shape gaping wide Open, even when the current (from foward motion) is pushing it. I never had so much trouble as we did today. Of course, we will be going back to the head first method, but the problem of the wadded up net still is present. I wonder if others have this issue, and if you have any advice or ideas. Tough to lose nice fish at the boat.
  17. Olcott Friday, 7/21/17 0600-1230 Went east of Harbor to around the smokestack. WE COULD NOT FIND THE KINGS. Started in 120 FOW trolled N/ NE. Got 8 lb Coho in 195 FOW,. Then had several hours of nothi ng all the way to 330 FOW. Circled back all the way to 100 FOW. Lost a steelhead and Coho on the way due to bad netting technique. then went quite a while with nothing again, trolling NW to 350 FOW. Caught a few steelhead out there and a couple small ones. Ended up with 3 steelhead in the box,(one was an 8 pounder) and one Coho. Threw 3 back, and lost 3. Here is the thing: there was so many weeds in the lake, the Spin Doctors/paddles were constantly getting weeded up. I'm certain we dragged weeds for much of the time without knowing it, and I was trying to check lines often which is difficult with mono line and chinook divers.....because you cannot trip the release with mono line- there is too much stretch. I went to mono after being out Sunday and there were so many fleas, had no choice. Finally I got smart and went to just a spoon on each line, no spin doctor, and I think that saved us. They stayed much cleaner. My setup was one Downrigger 50-65 feet, One Downrigger at 70-100. One #4 chinook diver on third hole, 200 feet back, One #4 chinook diver on third hole, 250 feet back. Used SD with Flies, and SD with Spoons, and as stated above due to weeds, switched to clean spoons for much of the day. The down water temp seemed warm (50-55) around the smokestack area all the way out to 250 FOW, even 80 feet down. Surface was about 70. Seemed to find cooler water as we went WEST back toward Olcott, then we found 44-45 degree, at about 80 down. I kept the speed at the ball between 2.4 and 2.7 all day. Hopefully Sunday will better, I can't g out Saturday. Maybe 15 rigs parked in the lot at 0600.
  18. Thanks guys I will try that. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Thanks. We're going Friday morning. We'll start in 200 fow I guess. I'm not sure. Probably go east too. There's usually a gang of boats straight out and slightly west. I try to avoid the crowds. Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. All I know is the 18 lb king I got Sunday wrecked the treble hook that was on the spoon, Unbelievable. I just replaced it with what I had, but I need to pay attention because I never knew they could demolish your hooks like that.
  21. seems the fish are widely spread out, as far as depths, they are all over the place.
  22. I will also say as a new Fish Hawk Owner, it does jump around more than I thought it would. The Fishfinder (Lowarance elite 4 Chirp) knocks the Fish Hawk probe reading out if I set it to Medium Chirp, which is my preferred setting, because it shows a bigger hook, and I can see the downrigger balls. In high chirp, I get small hooks, and no downrigger balls show up. So, I moved the FF transducer to the other side, and I think it made it worse. Now my FF transducer is on the same side of the boat that my DownRigger with the Fish Hawk Probe is on. It is nice not to worry about cables (unless it breaks) but it does fluctuate and has interference problems that are difficult to eliminate with the limited area you can mount a transducer. I am actually thinking about moving the FF transducer to the front of the boat, somehow. Bracket?
  23. Check my post in the "This old Boat Forum" It says Raymarine in the title. I have a steering wheel too. I put pictures on there. I simply disconnect my Steering when I run the autopilot. It drives my main outboard and my kicker. The ST 1000 is made for sailboats but I adapted it to work with my outboard. It has always been a battle fishing by myself. No More. It is so easy now. $363 Total from Hodges Marine.
  24. Yes, it seems to be double what they say. 1 to 3 means 2 to 6. 2 feet or less means 4 feet or less. Only when they say 1 foot or less, I am sure it will be a good day.
