    When I came to fish camp on July 8th I really thought this would be the best chance to catch a 30 lb king that I have had in the last 5 yearss given the slow bite in May, June and part of July due to the massive alewive die off allowing easily obtained forage for the predator species. At around 10 am yesterday we had a wire rod fire with a FF down 70’. The king weighed in at 31.2 lbs with a 26” girth and 40.5” long. My buddy Matt, a Maine lobsterman was on the rod.

    Great report. I have been thinking of trying my luck at jigging kings as well. I am not sure why more people dont do it. Man what a fight that would be.

    It was tough weather for us on Friday but we fished from 6am to 3 pm. Only landed 7 with 2 over 20 lbs. Seems like an ok day but that is quite a few hours in a bag of West wind. 6 spoon bites one flasher fly. Me and my son fished from 5:30-4 went 12/15 with several over 20lbs. We started out in 165-190 then at noon we went out to 550-650. Only one bite on a meat rig not landed the rest on spoons.

    It was tough weather for us today but we fished from 6am to 3 pm. Only landed 7 with 2 over 20 lbs. Seems like an ok day but that is quite a few hours in a bag of West wind. 6 spoon bites one flasher fly.

    I tested a 300 copper with a torpedo weight yesterday. Without the weight it went 55' down at 2.8 mph. With the weight it went 70' down. I attached it to the leader/copper junction on the copper so it would not slide down the leader.

    I was out this morning. 50 degrees was at 70'. Seems like we get one day were they are biting good and two days its not so good. But there are some nice ones around. We boxed by 10:30 and let one 8.5-9 lb go then landed a 25.7 lb. Yesterday I fished solo for a brown and a stealhead.

    I am wondering if we may have caught them last year. Cant catch them twice if they go in the box. Seems to be very inconsistent everywhere.

    Guys have been doing well on Browns here and like me they are also from Maine. One had 15 on Friday. But many have been doing well all the way from here to Sodas Point. I have got three while trolling for salmon the last two times out. 8-12 lbs.

    I herd a rumor that a few may be showing up on the bar. We have been fishing out of Fair Haven and Oswego it seems to be hit and miss depending on the day.

    We went 9/12 on saterday largest was 23 lbs but sunday we only landed 1/4 in 4 hours.

    Yesterday (Thursday) me and a friend went 9/14 before the weather kicked at 12:15 only 3 were over 12.5 lbs largest was 19.1 lbs all others were pulled in without netting and released with the pliers. All released seemed to swim away fine.

    I have been here for a week today fishing solo 1/2 of the time. Just me and the dog. A buddy from Maine came and fished with me the last 2 days. Most days I work for them but I have landed some kings the larges was yesterday weighing in at 26.7 lbs. We got a few 12-18 and 6-8 shakers. I have had meat and flies out but for me spoons have been taking 90% of the hits. 5/9, 3/3, 2/2, and one afternoon I was solo with the dog and went 3/3 in 2.5 hours.

    Thanks for the update. I am patiently waiting for better reports before I head to Wildwood's. I am guessing it should improve by the 15th if its going to. I still wonder if this years fish were caught last year early.

    I hunted Zone 1 2 years ago and my son drew zone 2 for the same week. We were both successful. I killed a very nice bull. we did a solid 3 days of scouting prior to opening morning. We were staying about 72 miles back from the closest paved road. As you might imagine you will need to bring at lest 55 gallons of gas and everything you will need to extract the animal should it drop 1/2 mile back from a road. I also saw a guy from Oswego got drawn.

    Would this be considered a long shaft?

    If there was I would guess it would be almost as much to pay a charter considering all of the messes some would get into running down riggers and a boat they are unfamiliar with.
