  1. Don't fish temp! Fish marks on your FF. This weekend we caught kings in 39-40 degree water in Canada, and and last week we caught them at the Oak in 60+ degree water. In my opinion too many people worry about temp. For years we started at 60 degrees and worked deeper into the colder water with our spreads, but the more and more we fish Summer temps the more I realize it doesn't matter as much. Use that probe to repeat speeds they are liking that day.
  2. Great report! Sitting at work anxious to get out tomorrow!
  3. Friday practice - We only have one day to practice, and we feel there is always a check on the Toronto drop, so that's where we spent our day of practice probing and putting together a program. Water was cold with the surface between 60-62, and once you got down to 50' you were in the 40's. Our Humminbird ONIX was showing us a great picture of bait and fish, and we picked away at them throughout the day, but nothing over 20lbs. Our 400' A-TOM-MIK copper was good with Familiar bite meat, our 70' diver on a 2 setting was good pulling a Dreamweaver Magnum Ghost. We had a Marvs Fatty/A-TOM-MIK #41 going on one of our Cannon downriggers, and meat on our deepest. We heard the fishing had been tough, but we had 6 for our box and a few extra, so we felt comfortable. Saturday - We set lines at 6:30, but we had no picture to work. Our water had moved! Sticking to the theory I've come up with (there's always a check on that piece of structure) we ground it out. Our Stealth Core 10 color lead was good for us pulling a Dreamweaver Magnum Sea Sick Waddler. It took our largest fish of the day. We grabbed a nice one on a 70' diver pulling a FLT Mahi Mahi mag. The rest of our fish were taken on Familiar bite meat fished off our Cannon downriggers. We boxed 9 fish, but 4 were 20"-8lbs. Our other 5 were solid. We also lost 3 fish throughout the day. One of which would have definitely been the one we needed. Weigh in.....the tourney organizers seen us walking over with a Grizzly cooler and struggling. Knowing how tough fishing was out there they asked us to go to the back of the line to create some drama. Toward the end we knew it would come down to Team Vision Quest and Team Yankee Troller for the $40,000 first place prize. We went first. Our biggest 3 for the calcutta went 70lbs, and out 6 weighed in at 105 and change. Pete and team weigh in shortly after and his 3 calcutta fish weigh considerably less than ours. We're thinking we might have a shot! However, Pete and team didn't have the 8lb fish in their cooler like we did, and weighed in a box of 109 and change. 2nd place isn't so bad, but it's tough to swallow being brides maids for the two largest tourneys on Lake Ontario this season. Congrats to the VQ team, and to all the tourney organizers for a great event.
  4. Our team took 2nd place at the Summer Tightline in Canada today! http://t.co/Dn2sHAmL8v

  5. I screwed up and booked a double, so i had to drop Craig off with that charter for weigh in and I ran back to the Oak to pick up trip #2. Wont happen next year! I enjoy hanging out and chatting with everyone.
  6. If I was a fun fisherman not involved in tourneys or charters I'd have 0 copper set-ups, and all I'd run were light line rigs. They definitely produce but they take a lot of fun out of the battle. Meat and flies are always a great Salmon producer, and many times will produce larger fish. What I try to tell people is keep it simple. When experimenting with meat rigs use a rig closest to a flasher/fly combo you do well with or have confidence in.
  7. Awesome story, and thanks for not getting in the Calcutta! Don't forget to e-mail that pic to me bud.
  8. Tim - no disrespect bud, but there are a lot of guys out there looking for that info. We're using Rhys Davis meat heads for the most part. The flasher ranges from an 8" Dreamweaver Spin Doctor to the big meat paddles. We fish a lot of big dollar events, and I know that my competition creeps on these posts. I give up quite a bit of info in my reports, but some things need to stay on the Yankee.
  9. I'm calling BS! You whip those huge Musky baits around allllllllllllll day long. Your arms should be in shape!
  10. Most guys from the Oak hang on 10 and you can catch the Sandy guys on 72. Fishing has been good some days and poor others. Don't leave fish and bait if you're seeing it. Mid day bite (11-2) has been good for a few weeks.
  11. 7/25 Morning – Morning of the Sandy Creek Shootout we broke the pier heads at 5:15 with the intentions of heading West. A last minute decision to go East between my brother and I found ourselves down off the lighthouse in 130’ of water at 5:40 with a boat load of clients. We set lines and the chaos began. We couldn’t get an 8 rod spread down, and the bite went like this until 9am. We ran one 400’ and two 500’ A-TOM-MIK coppers pulling Familiar Bite meat. Our divers pulled a Wonderbread Smartfish/A-TOM-MIK Glow Blue Hammer fly, and a Hammertime Chip/A-TOM-MIK Hypnotist fly our 200-250’ on 2 settings. Our deep Cannon downrigger pulled Familiar Bite meat down 90-120, we had a rigger set at 80-90’ down with flasher fly combos, and a high rigger down 60-80’ with Dreamweaver Sea Sicks MUPPED. We found we had to troll NE/SW to deal with the current. 130’ to 225’ seemed to be the loops we were working, but 175’-200’ was where most waypoints laid on our Humminbird ONIX. We went to weigh in knowing it would be close. We've come up a little short a few times already at this event, and it happened again! Congrats to the winners, and thanks goes out to the organizers! 7/25 Evening – Nicholas from Norway joined us again this year. We headed out and it was a slow go. First bite came on a 500 A-TOM-MIK copper pulling Familiar Bite meat. We would sit and rot for most of the evening until 7pm. Watching our Humminbird ONIX units I see a few fish shoot off the bottom in 145’ off the ladders. Deep rigger pulling meat fires, and Nicholas is into a good one. We get it 40 yards from the boat and it finds our 500 copper and we have a mess on our hands. As we are slowly working it in the 500’ A-TOM-MIK copper fires with a Salmon. We net the first one, and Nicholas is into the second. He pulls a double alone with a 17 and a 19lb Salmon. Both took Familiar Bite meat. 7/26 Morning – Nicholas joined us for a morning outing looking to crack the 20lb mark. He’s got 3 at 19lbs between last season and this season, so the quest continued. The fishing was slow. We went 5/6 from 5:30 to noon. He landed a two small Salmon, a Brown Trout, a Steelbow, and a Lake Trout. As it’s been the last few weeks the noon bite kicked into gear, and between 12 and 1:30 we went 3 for 4 on some nice Salmon. They came on deep Cannon downriggers pulling Familiar Bite meat, and 400 and 500 foot A-TOM-MIK copper pulling Familiar Bite meat. 7/26 Evening – Wasn’t looking forward to an afternoon boat ride with these clients. The Povio’s fish with us every year, and they’ve had some stellar catches throughout the years. It started slow. We worked out to the 25/26N line and our South trolls seemed to be best. We actually did quite good for an afternoon charter. Stinger Black Tuxedos and Frost Bites on Cannon downriggers 55-80’ down. Divers out 250’ pulling a UV Hammertime Dreamweaver Spin Doctor/A-TOM-MIK Hammer Lime Live, and our 500 A-TOM-MIK copper pulling familiar Bite meat.

  16. Off Braddock's point. Temp is down past 70'. Doubled up on a wire out 200' and a 500 copper.

  17. Nice report bud! My ol' man started my addiction at the age of 5. From 16-25 I got into Bass tourneys heavily, but came right back to Lady O.
  18. Hahahahahaha.....perfect! They would have taken a beating there too!
  19. Maybe we'll give everyone a trophy so everyone feels like they did a great job! Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. This is nonsense and a cop out! What happened to wanting to fish against stiff competition and the thrill of beating a tough team? Anyone can win at any time! This thread has turned into a BS thread and I feel bad for Tony. You're beating a guy down for be successful! Getting beat in a tourney teaches you more than winning one. it shows you what you should have been doing to beat the competition. It's the best way to get better at fishing this lake hands down.
  21. Stay in the AM division Tony! I don't want to fish against you! Nice job this year buddy!
  22. It'll will be changed next year. No over lap if possible.
