  1. I use Charter Lakes. Thankfully haven't needed it, but they are very nice to deal with.... John
  2. Have to come off the I-95, but Charleston, SC area is beautiful!!
  3. I have a Yamaha 225 4 stroke. Love it, and I think it is every bit as good on gas as the i/o I owned. Haven't gone kicker yet, but think about that. The Yamaha replaced a 2 stroke Evinrude 225 that blew 2 cylinders at 485 hrs, despite meticulous maintenance, and using all the extra ring free kind of stuff. Apparent issue with that motor...don't get me started. The 4 stroke is quieter,no fumes and I think better on gas than the two stoke. Oil/filter change is easy now that I master that. ** I love the look of twin outboards, but, as I traveled around with a friend looking this fall...good question came up....what if you had used twins and blew one up? You couldn't replace it with new, because they might not match, so you'd be looking at a replacement powerhead, not always the best situation either. Marina told me on the Evinrude that I'd be fixing junk w junk, on that particular motor, and the warranty company said they wouldn't touch a repower. Speaking from experience, I could have replaced a blown inboard 5x for what my Yamaha cost......
  4. Yeah, saw that Cisco mount on the net. Got a friend that has his boat rigged up with their holders, and they seem really nice. Just not sure if the Cisco will give me as much flexibility as the RAM, and if the HDS-7 doesn't interfere with the Furuno, I'm going to need that flex to get it mounted. Otherwise, Furuno goes and I have no issue.
  5. Thanks Gambler. Saw that last night nosing around. Found 1 place cheaper, but with shipping it ended up being more.... John
  6. Have a friend that's outfitting a boat. Anyone have a good place to get an X-4? John
  7. Thanks guys! I've got a Furuno now, wanted to add the HDS7. RAM looks like it will work, but now from what I've been reading, I'm worried about interference. John
  8. Bought an new HDS and am looking at options for mounting. Focusing on a RAM mount. Anyone use these and do you like them? John
  9. Awesome Capt. Paul. I periodically have people ask about that on my trips. Would it be possible for you to get me some information about your services and replicas to have available? Thanks. John
  10. Afterschool: We stay on Kiawah Island, which is about 25 miles south of Charleston proper. Factoring in stops, and not killing ourselves, its about 14 hrs from Dunkirk to Kiawah. If you've never been to Charleston, its simply old school, south. Beautiful city, lots to do, lots of great places to eat. Kiawah is big$$ if you're buying, but to stay is not too bad, and very laid back. Opposite of Mrytle. If you're really thinking about it.... I recommend Affinity Charters. Capt. John Ward. He's on the web. Super nice guy. I think this year will be the 7th year I fish with him..... Happy to tell you more about the area too. PM me and I'll give you my cell. John
  11. Heading to fish just south of Charleston, SC. in February and early April. John
  12. Gotta agree with Gambler on this one...hey, as long as we talking about dream boats.... I'd have to say a 31 Open for here, but I'd also have to have a 24' bay boat for South Carolina. If I can afford both, its a good chance I wouldn't have to work, so I could split my time! For now, the 23' Seaswirl will do, but I did see a couple of 27 Opens that are tweaking my curiousity........
  13. Mower.... Said moment...for a second.....you repowered? Not interested in a 23 Seawirl w/ 225 Yamaha by any chance? John
  14. Starting to think about upgrading to a color unit. In looking at the Lowrance HDS17, and going with a shoot thru transducer, the pics on the internet shows a wire coming off the transducer that is the temp sensor wire. Any one have experience with this unit? I'm looking at the shoot thru to avoid more holes in the boat, but it looks like I then need to do something to mount this temp wire. John
  15. Captain: Sorry to hear about that. Just turns my stomach. I was just in Erie today, and walked along the main pier looking at charter row. Wish Dunkirk was up to speed. Any chance you could post what else was taken from the other boats? You never know...someone on this board may come across something..... Hope they catch the bastar*s. John
  16. Awesome off Dunkirk Saturday. Would have like a few less of the smaller ones, but with the air bladder messed up, not much you can do. 60 fow. Live minnows. John
  17. Mark, have you looked at the forecast? Awful. Hoping to squeeze another week out of Mother Nature, but it looks unfishable til Monday, at best......
  18. We fished out of Dunkirk Sunday and had a bunch of fish until the waves kicked up. Some nice jacks, but a lot of the 8-9" variety. 65 fow pretty much straight out of Dunkirk. Heard reports previous 3-4 days of real good catches. Sounds like its pretty good everywhere!

    Brocton Shoal

That area is generally really good for walleye in late June-early July. You do get that mixed bag, but also your fair share of junkers, especially if you run worms.....

    Brocton Shoal

Brocton Shoal is "roughly" halfway between Dunkirk and Barcelona. If you are launching at Barcelona, head east. You'll see two water towers on shore, shoal area is out in front of those. John
  21. On my boat windows, I have a couple of plastic zipper where the handle that you grab to operate the zippers have cracked and broken from the sun. These are YKK brand. Emailed them, and they don't sell directly to consumer, and forwarded my info to someone else. Yet to get a reply to that. So, does anyone know where I can get just that replacement handle? John
  22. Boat is next to me in Dunkirk. Awesome rig for someone looking to move up! John
  23. Walteye: We haven't run worms the last 6 times out or so. Seem to prefer the chatters and spoons. Haven't tried the green, but we did get the red to go. Hoping it lays out for tomorrow and Sunday..... John
  24. For the first time in several years, we're still getting some good fish out of Dunkirk. Had a trip Saturday where we only boated 6, but the group consisted of 4 kids and 1 adult and the kids had a tough time with the 10 color. We dropped 7 fish for sure that were walleye. Sunday, slow, but steady. Got 8 plus 2 lakers and 2 steelhead. Bonus was that one of the last ones was 10lbs! 3' chattersticks in blk/silver or red/black off the 160 divers and 10 color (with 2 oz) and a Yeck Buffalo Bill on a 68 ft rigger. North-South troll in 82-95 fow.
