  1. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Throbbin Rod ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):June 18 Time on Water:4 hours Weather/Temp:75/ sunny Wind Speed/Direction:sw2-3 Waves: 0 Surface Temp: Location:Oak Orchard LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): 26-26.5 X 13-14 =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 14 Total Boated:9 Species Breakdown: 5 Steelhead, 1 Coho, 3 Kings Hot Lure: Orange lures Trolling Speed: 2.4 knts Down Speed: 2.2 - 2.4 knts Boat Depth: 300ish Lure Depth: 60 and up ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished late Friday from about 4- 8PM with Patty. We got word from Joe Toomey ( Irish Thunder) we might want to peek around 25-27N a bit west of port. Good suggestion! We set up two riggers ( 45 & 60)with free sliders and a wire rod out 210 and a, new to me, 500 copper out 300. Every rod took fish - 2 copper, 1 wire, the rest rigger bite. Spoons that worked were all orange - Getter Dun, Mixed Veggie, Orange Crush, and a silver spoon with orange tape on half and yellow tape on the other half with black dots on both. 42 Second Spinnie with a Atommik crazy **** took a nice king. One skip, 9# Coho, 2 teenagers, couple steels and fish of the day were 29 & 31" steelhead. Grilled up some chicken for a nice dinner on the boat.
  2. We were going to sign up this weekend. Too bad.... perhaps too many of us waited too long to register. Bruce
  3. Lot's of great fisherman, volunteers and sponsors! I can appreciate those that would like to see the results sooner. I am involved in Alpine Ski Racing and we run into the same thing. I understand what goes into an event from planning to awards. We have chosen to post ASAP "Unofficial Results" (and use for awards) that most often are the same as those posted later as "Official Results". We state that awards are indeed based on these unofficial results. We also often post online these "Unofficial Results".This allows folks to see results, awards and still get on the road home (or if looking online on with other activities) as many come from a great distance. This seems to keep most happy and people understand if things do happen to change the results including awards. No one seems to mind. Just a thought. This was my first time fishing one of these and was a great experience. I was lucky enough to fish with Dave and Josh and Joel on Tracker. I would certainly like to participate in the future. Give the organizers a bit of slack..... Bruce
  4. Nice fish! Did not put 2&2 together until Rich Kolmetz said a buddy of his had just returned from the Cape with good reports on the stripers. Met you at a game of his a couple years back. We were "attacking" MCC with the potato gun from the restaurant parking lot after the game. Bruce
  5. I have purchased a few flies from Tom at A-Tom-Mik in the past and have been very pleased with the quality and the results they have provided. I have decided that I should add a Copper setup to the crowded cuddy of our Trophy. An email to long time advisor (and friend) Joe Toomey of Irish Thunder set me up with some great thoughts. He made his suggestions and observations and told me to get in touch with Tom. An evening email on Monday of this week to Tom elicited an almost immediate response.... call me. Numbers quickly punched despite the hour and 20 minutes later "we" decided on a 500 setup on a Tekota 800. Oh and better try a couple of your Torpedos. Tom said "I have selfishly been fishing a lot recently and am a bit back logged with orders so it will take me 5 days or so to put this together". No worries... no rush on my part. Thursday 2 Torpedos arrive! Friday (today) Copper setup with rod are waiting on the porch. I did have to go inside for a beer though.... This is great service!!!! Thanks Tom! Tom supports many of us with great service and advice and as such I can proudly recommend him as a "prime" source for our family. Bruce
  6. Hudson was loaded with boats as we drove to and from Boston Fiday and Saturday. Was wishing.....
  7. Good luck to all! Wish I was going to be out but road trip to Boston for my son's Ski Team Banquet. Be safe! Bruce
  8. Make sure hose from tank to motor are a good seal at both ends..... also in my haste in the past i have forgotten to vent the tank. Good luck!
  9. Anyone know if the docks are in at the County Launch at the north end of the Bay? Thanks in advance, Bruce
  10. Set out this morning to fish Seneca for the first time in many years. Went to my old favorite - Roy's for bait and easy launch. Fished in front of Roy's and a bit south, Glass Factory and across the lake at Reeders Creek. Tried 20- 45 fow with Oak Leaf grubs and minnows. Not a tap in 4 hours. I can not get over how clear the lake is these days! See the bottom in 35- 40 feet of water. No apparent shortage of Zebras, bottom just coated in many spots. Nice day on the lake. Hope to get back soon. Saw some guys that said they had sat on a school all day with little or no action on the east side. Did manage to get the boat to idle well at trolling speed as I may want to use it out of Ibay and the Oak until I get the bigger boat in at the Oak. Bruce
  11. Those landlocks are down deep or along the shore? You doing anything on stickbaits? If so any particular size or colors? May try to sneak out late afternoon... Thanks, Bruce
  12. These are great rod "holders". Ran them for years no problem but bought a couple more two years ago and they both broke, replaced under warranty and those broke as well. The clamps on the newer ones seem to be a cheaper alloy and break or crack. I would not recommend using dipsey rods in them or for that matter a large net. Took losing two setups and almost a third before braindead self said WTF! If you do choose to use them for dipseys put a bunji to your reel. BTW West paid to replace the rods, reels, line as well as the dipseys and hardware. Great customer service!!!!
  13. Yankee - here is a thought for your next adventure now that you have the kayak thing down.... http://playak.com/index.php?option=com_ ... deoid=3044 you need to play it on the 360 (on the bottom bar) setting unless you have a wicked fast comp and connection...
  14. These look awfully nice.... what speed do they run at and are they up to big salmon hit? If so sure would give them a shot for our LO salmon and steelhead. If they are heavy enough I sure think they would entice a few strikes.... let me know.
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Throbbin Rod ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):11-22 Time on Water:8:00-11AM Weather/Temp:overcast/45 Wind Speed/Direction:0 Waves: glass Surface Temp: 46 Location:5-100 FOW LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 0 Total Boated:0 Species Breakdown:N/A Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Marked no fish, no bait and same temp from 5 FOW - 100 FOW - lots of ducks and geese nice to get out - strange to see all the docks empty and no one around - will fish perch or finger lakes if I get a chance to get out again. Happy Thanksgiving to all.....
  16. Very interesting! we have had no zebras since we moved the boat to the Oak. Had lots when in I-Bay.
  17. yup.... had to go to 28.5 and deeper to find fish on Saturday but I bet they are finding there way back inside
  18. Mark, Same up at the Oak today but once we got to 28.5 temps were much better. Found some good fish 29- 30 line. We took 8 or 9 quality steel and 4 or five kings the largest 20#. Two wire bites.... out 200 and 210...one steelhead and one king and missed one. Spoons that were working in order of popularity with the fish were Stinger Dirty White Boy, R&R Spook and a silver Stinger with black down one side and a purple "tag". Riggers at 60- 70 with a number of fish on cheated up 8 sliders. We ad 43- 48 degree water inside and had 70 on top out deep with 47 down 70ish. Sounds like a blow day Sunday.... I'll call you and let you know how our grass is growing! Bruce
  19. There is definitely an interest on our boat of a reasonable way to target fish at those depths. Do you need a Lake Ontario tester? We would be happy to do so and with the LOC starting any trick that will put fish on board would be welcome!

Thanks to Irish Thunder for getting us to a fishy location. Fished Sunday and started @ 9w-24.5 and worked out to 11w-30n. Had steady action all the way ending at a nice pocket of fish at the northwest end of troll. Largest was 25#King and 10# Steelhead.
  22. Although an old book written about the Finger Lakes called ( to the best of my recollection) Fishing the Finger Lakes for Fabulous Trout and Salmon written by a guy named Earl Holdren is a warehouse of information applicable to most bodies of water containing trout and salmon. A good read and adjust to your specific body of water. Lots of stuff about thermocline and how fish relate to it as structure, light and color considerations as well with specifics about the Finger Lakes. I learned a lot from this old book. Tough to find but well worth seeking out.
  23. Fishing Report Throbbin Rod ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):Sunday 8-9-2009 Time on Water: 7-12 Weather/Temp:68 Wind Speed/Direction:south- 0 Waves: 0 Surface Temp: 68 Location: varied LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): varied =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown:1 King Hot Lure: ???? Trolling Speed: Down Speed:2.4. 2.7 then 2.2 Boat Depth: all over Lure Depth: 60-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took my younger sister out for her first LO trip. Started east of port in 90 and worked out through that recently, for us, productive 150 -170 area. Just one 10-12# king for her. Got a suggestion to move deeper and west of port and motored over there. Set up and went though a big pod of bait and took a nice alewive. Proceeded to get out a Twinkie rig and put it behind a white 8" e-dip flasher. It was down no more than 2 minutes and took off. Dropped that fish (and all the rest). No more real bait and remembered we had some Gulp Saltwater bait in a rectangular sheet. Cut it to resemble the old RhyDavis strips and it took three more rips including one that took out 200 and then shot to the depths rather than Canada, good fish, we dropped that one too after working it back into within 70 feet of the boat. Never saw it.... Got a very nice courtesy call from Joe Toomey of Irish Thunder regarding a strong thunderstorm headed from Toronto and a second call saying time to boogey... thanks! A good steelie as we were pulling rods took a mag Stinger Diehard which we proceeded to loose while at the back of the boat. Drop city for the day for us but a nice visit with my sister. She really enjoyed it and loved the look and dare I say ambiance of the Oak.
  24. Fishing Report Throbbin Rod - Oak Orchard ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8-8-2009 Time on Water:6:15- 1:00PM Weather/Temp: 75 and Hazy Wind Speed/Direction:South 5mph Waves: negligable Surface Temp: 72 Location: 150- 400 Just east of port LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 14 Total Boated:12 Species Breakdown:8 Steelhead, 4 kings Hot Lure: DW M&M and NK Glow Frog white cup Trolling Speed: varied Down Speed:2.25 - 2.5 Boat Depth: 90 - 400 Lure Depth: 70- 90 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished Friday night for a couple hours with Patty in 150 - 170 just east of port. Boated 11-4 Steelhead and a 10# King and another King around 5# or so. DW M&M and Gators did the trick. Saturday set up in 90 FOW just a tad east of port. Worked out to 400 FOW. Best was 170- 260 range. Port rigger at 70 with glow frog and M&M up 8 feet accounted for all but 4 fish. The other four were on wire out 210 and 240 on 2.5 setting with 42 second spin doctor/atommik crazy **** and Gator spin doctor with atommik green crinkle fly. Temp was 52- 55 down 70. Fleas minimal and only in deeper water. The steelhead were, all but one, 5-9#. Kings were 2 skippers, one around 12 and one tipped scales at just about 25# - 70 foot rigger glow frog of course. Good day on the lake, again!
  25. All of our days up there have been good with one exception early in July. Pretty much same hadware plus Gator and Geterdun spoons in the mix many days. That same area has held fish most days and times of day. All but two fish this season we have been able to release.... a good feeling.
