  1. Hit the white rock at dawn with green dot spin dr and pro troll flasher on the wire divers at 210' and 180', spoons on the riggers and 7 color leadcore with a spoon down the chute. Jim brought the leadcore rig with a black and orange spoon attached so I ran as it came. First hit comes on the leadcore, quick hit and gone. 5 minutes later bang leadcore again, I grab the rod pull back and nothing, as in nothing but backer. Too bad because that was a hot spoon, and it was all too evident that the knot from the backing to the leadcore failed. Hey Jim what is the name of that spoon? I want one. I ran my 3 color briefly with Rapala GFR but it was really out of temp. So out went the 300' copper with a green revelator and green hammer fly. Wires were quiet with the glows, so I switched to the Italian and a chicken wing on the wire diver out 220'. The Italian went soon after that switch so out came the 11' Italian and green hammer fly on the rigger at 60' too. Those were both good rigs today although we did drop a few fish. Green Spin Dr on a rigger at 55' took a shot too but I dropped that one. We worked all the way to Seneca Point from Cook's Point picking up a nice rainbow along the way on the copper. Kurt and Jim both brought fish to the boat during a double on wire and copper, and Kurt took some good pictures. We ended up with 4 lake trout and one rainbow. As we reeled up for the day, most of the rods were in as Kurt reeled in the port diver rod he hooked the rigger rod resting in the holder of the rigger. Out she popped into the water when I see Kurt jump in the lake to grab the rod as he's holding the diver rod. Man overboard, all I can see is Kurt wrestling the rods, his hat and sunglasses and the rods looking like there all slipping away from his grasp. Now all I can see is the yellow of the Twili Tip, still wondering what happened, Kurt hollers hurry! Jim turns the boat quickly as I retrieved a life jacket to throw, as we circled back I tossed the jacket to Kurt as Jim threw it into neutral. Now Kurt is at the swim platform as he hands me the Twili Tip, I'm thinking the rod is broken and the reel is freespooling to 164 FOW. Luckily the wire rod and reel were intact and Kurt was safely on board as I reeled in the dipsy and flasher fly. It was quite a feat to attempt to rescue the flying rod and reel, jumping off the back of the boat all the while holding a 9'6" Daiwa Heartland rod with a Daiwa SG47LC. We would have posted some pics but Kurt's phone was in his pocket, if it drys out and still works maybe we will see some pics, we sure had a good laugh when it was all said and done.
  2. no gate, there is a hut with a dude to take your cash, $5 ?or you need the NYS Park Sticker, the dude isn't there really early but he will leave a bill on your windshield. Around the end of the month it will be unmanned.
  3. that's pretty cool, makes my sonar look like an etch-a-sketch
  4. We tried this smoker brine this past weekend with our rainbow and lake trout filets, simply sublime. I made a nice sandwich for lunch today, 8" baguette with mayo and thin sliced tomato and smoked trout, awesome.
  5. Good job, were you fishing the north end?
  6. Hi Brett and blueghost1, Saturday was good for us but Monday was bad, not sure what the deal was, hoping to see a blueghost1 report for Monday.
  7. We must have been right next to you guys on the point when you were fighting that one you dropped, it looked like you were handlining the fish from our view, that point was good that day, lots of fish in the area.
  8. Awesome Tom, nice walleye, Hemlock has been giving some nice fish this year.
  9. wire diver, clear disco dipsy, 8" white/glow/chrome echip, noseeum fly
  10. My wife and I fished with Kurt, 33canuck, on the eastside from White Rock to Whiskey Point, running 2 wire divers and 3 riggers with the 300' copper down the chute. The riggers managed a few fish today on mag nk glow frog, running 40', 50', 60'. We missed one right away on a diver as I got the lines set but the wires were the hot set up with green dot spin dr hammer fly running 210', also white crush glow pro troll echip noseeum fly running 220' took best fish today a rainbow just shy of 9lbs. 60' down temp was 48, 2.5-2.75 at the ball, we kept five lake trout and the bow and let a small laker off boatside. Great weather today.
  11. Please don't stay home and fix things at least not this Saturday, Sunday is supposed to rain and you can fix stuff for her then, you can come out with me tomorrow morning check your PM's, ok
  12. Your first paragraph is a double entendre, however not fishing the derby because it is too expensive is definitely ironic.
  13. Hi I wanted to see the atomik video but this is what I got with that link http://www.youtube.com/index?ytsession= ... De7zPv5-Mo
  14. Good thing Dustin was sleeping during the double right as we initially set those port divers, otherwise he would have seen me drop one, "Brown Hound" hmm
  15. Sunday 9/5 Rigged the boat under a beautiful sunrise, had cousin Tommy and his son Ryan and my wife Bonnie aboard. We cruised down to just north of vine valley and set up in 140 FOW. 3 wire dipsies, 3 riggers, and 300 copper. Spoons on the riggers and flasher flies on dipsies and copper. Wire dipsy with white pro troll echip and no seeum fly went first on a 3 setting out 210'. Nice 5 lb lake trout, it was Tommy's first fish ever basically besides little sunfish. Ryan ended boating 1 fish but struggled to keep the fish hooked. We had bites on the rigger with a mag NK watermelon at 60' Saw a little bow fly out the water and spit the hook of a slider with ball at 50'. Copper fired with green revelator and green hammer fly. Basically green flashers and flies after the early white bites. We probably ended up 5 for 9, releasing a small bow and keeping four lakers 2 of which were 5lbs. Monday 9/6 Monday we left the dock at 6:30 and set up at the white rock, tcon and and dustin and fireplug joined me. We ran 4 wire divers, 3 riggers and 300' copper. black dot spin dr and no seeum and white pro troll echip with hammer fly fired right away at 210' and 150', tcon brought his to the net but I dropped mine. Rerigged and finished setting the other rods, the 300' copper took a 3 lb rainbow, on the east side, when circled back to the hot spot between Whiskey Point and white rock. The marks were gone so we ventured west in search mode. We worked all way past Cook's Point and the trawler docked on the west side. We turned back south and went past Cook's Point and Long Point, working SW we checked a dipsy to make sure it was clean after bouncing bottom in the shallows out 210 on a 3, tcon reset and asked "How far out do you want this one?", I said 220', 221' whatever it takes, he closed the lever at 220' and she fired before he had a chance to sit down. We knew it was good one as Todd worked the rod, the bow came out the water 150' back but Todd kept it buttoned. Teamwork prevailed and we netted beauty bow just and ounce or two shy of 7lbs. Only one spoon bite on watermelon NK, the rest were flashers and flies. Wire divers outproduced the copper today.
  16. Check out the Pike and Musky forum, more posts there in regards to musky and pike fishing. viewforum.php?f=7
  17. Hi Ed that recipe sounds great, we will hopefully be trying it this weekend, yum also good call guys on the fish ID, Tim Bromund probably doesn't peruse the FLX discussion but he is the go to guy on the ID of the fish, he recently told Ed he had a Chin-ho, natural cross of king and silver
  18. Hey Brett, I really don't like to pass a rod, more times than not you drop that Pelican Point area is good for the bows
  19. jcritt1, jcritt1, FLXTroutman on 68 do you copy? Yes, there are fish in the lake, over. I think that is a way to communicate with your VHF. I never hear much chatter though, but give me a shout if your're out there, I will talk to you. Mtn dew SD and hammer fly is a favorite of mine, if you only have riggers, run it 5'-10' off the ball, spoon colors vary day to day, mix it up until you get something working. Spoon leads off the ball vary, try from 10'-85', sliders or cheaters add more the mix too, again mix it up until something works. If the mtn dew SD is working try a NK size 28 or Mag in black/ chartreuse cup, similar colors if you know what I mean. White Rock to Whiskey Point on the eastside this time of year should be productive water. I prefer a very early start, lines in the water at sunrise, if you stay on the eastside the hills keep the water "in the dark" longer but once the suns gets up you may have to go deeper, vary your speed, make a turn, changes in boat direction can affect lure speed at the ball.
  20. Hit the south end drop off around 8:55 am, first hit at 9:00 am, only had one wire and 1 rigger set before the rigger set at 52 fired with a barely legal brown, I released her at the back of the boat in the water, at 9:10 starboard wire fires, but as soon as I grabbed the rod nobody home. Finally get 3 riggers with spoons and sliders set at 52, 62, 70. 2 starboard wire dipsies, 1 port wire dipsy and 1 300' copper. The dipsies were set at 150' on 1, and 150' on a 1 and 270 on a 3. We encountered way too many weeds and junk to make it easy out there from white rock to past Whiskey Point.. Constantly cleaning lines on the riggers but luckily the wires were staying clean. My wife and I had a couple youngsters out who we met at a picnic and their mom dropped them off before she went to work hence the late start. They had lots of questions and it was fun explaining to them what I was doing. They had just asked "have you ever broke a rod?" when the port dipsy with mtn dew spin dr and hammer fly fired, I grabbed the rod and was hooked up when I leaned back on the rod just to make sure the fish was buttoned and CRACK. Holy cow I just broke a rod! Worried about losing the dipsy and flasher/ fly I thought about trying to bring in the fish on a 2' stump and 2 line guides but my frugality won out over trying to keep the fish hooked and I pointed the rod straight back and reeled in slowly and didn't lose any gear but lost the fish. So now I switched another wire to mtn dew spinny and hammer fly, circled back to the same area and worked it again. The screen was not lit up but were seeing the hooks up and down the riggers but just couldn't get them to bite. By 10:30 we crossed over to the west side to work Seneca Point to Black Point, worked 160-270, (almost saw the elusive 274' deepest hole) as we worked east again. As the sun was cooking us I asked the boys if they wanted to start reeling the rigger rods at around 1:00 pm, I told them they can come out another time just as the starboard dipsy at 150' starts bouncing. Fish on they yelled, my wife woke up from her slumbers in the cuddy and took the helm, Chris started to reel in the copper to clear the back of the boat, mind you these two boys both broke there arms in their first football game of the season on Sunday. They were troopers, helping clear the lines and getting the net ready. As the fish got to the back of the boat, my wife went to scoop the fish, swing and a miss, Luke was driving now and Bonnie took another swing and a miss, now I am getting worried. The rainbow was getting to be under the swim platform, so I gave Bonnie the rod and I took the net, I told Luke to speed up and now the fish was out from the platform and I scooped up a beautiful silver sided girth laden rainbow, I hadn't weighed many fish this year but this one was weigh worthy, tipped the scale at 6 1/2 lbs. It sure looked bigger but was super exciting for all of us especially given the time of day. At the point the fish hit were a mile north of Vine Valley about a 1/2 mile from Long Point on the east side.
  21. we were out Monday late start, 9:00 am first fish then 9:15 second fish, we worked hard, report to follow, the early bite is best I just need a crew to get up early
  22. Hi jerrysz, have not been out in a few weeks, boat was in for repairs, picking her Saturday and hope to be out Sunday
  23. I just heard this morning, Thursday 8/26/10 , there was a blue green algae bloom in the bay which closed swimming due to health risks. Not sure about fishing during this time, could possibly be oxygen starved if the algae is blooming and eating all the O2.
  24. Hey Polarbear are you using the baby docs with the scorpion off riggers or wire? I have used the baby doc in orange with hammer fly off wire and copper on Canandaigua Lake but no takers, I always figured a bow or brown might gobble it up but not yet. I will give it a try with the scorpion spoons next time. How long of a leader from doctor to spoon? Would it be as Yankee Troller stated 3 times the length of the spinny? I know that is the general rule for flasher fly combo but not sure about spoon behind an attractor.
  25. Many jigging guys recommend braid like Fireline, Spiderwire or Power Pro so you have no stretch and feel the bites better.
