  1. Sunday tcon Tom, Dustin and Nick were aboard for great fishing and great weather. We went 5/6 starting at 9:15 ending around 12:45. We had bites on Siggs Rigs flies compliments of Storm aka turp, blue green hypnotist behind green dot spin dr. and green glow behind a mountain dew spin dr. Those were both wire diver set ups out 115' and 165'. Also ran a rigger down 100' with white chrome/ crush glow 8" echip with a atomik mirage fly and picked up a lake trout. Also had 61' rigger with shark and probe fire with a Mag NK spook 40' back. The pic shows Tom's nice bow of the wire with that Siggs fly. Thanks again Storm. Another thanks to Pete Collin for a fly he tied that picked up a 9" rainbow, the 8" blue chrome flasher pulling that that nice tandem hook with atomik hammer color pattern was just too much to resist for that tough little fish. Great rainbow fishery here on Canandaigua Lake.
  2. nice catch Tom, and good looking spoon, I can't ever get bit on Mags on Canandaigua
  3. Full moon can make for poor morning bite, fish on Canandaigua Lake turned on after 10:00 am Sunday morning, we were still catching them after 1:00 pm, just a thought.
  4. I will start right off saying I had a great crew today, 33canuck and Pete Collin joined me for a spectacular sunrise and a awesome fishing on Canandaigua Lake. We cruised from the south end marina to Point Rochester setting up making a pass through Wegman's cove working to Menteth Point. We circled back after passing Menteth with 9 rod spread. We ran 3 riggers, 2 wire divers, 7 colors and 10 colors on planer boards, and 300' copper. We fished for awhile before getting a program going, but I think we were also waiting for the fish to start feeding again after the full moon. Once they turned on and we were over the fish and we had nonstop action. We went 12/12 and that's not counting 2 smallmouths on our 7 colors. We released most of the fish only keeping 2 lake trout that were bleeding and one rainbow late in the day. We had a great time and I have never put so many fish in the boat. Wires with green revelators and hammer flies took shots out 165' and 210'. Also had shots on mountain dew spinnie and hammer fly at 210' and a nice bow on the white pro troll echip with mirage fly out 115' late in the day around 12:45 pm. 7 color cores with lil cleos were on fire, I even ran 3/4 oz. llil cleo on the 300' copper. We ran the blue and silver lil cleos, blue and glow lil cleos in 2/5 oz. and 3/4 oz. Even had smallmouths hit the brass lil cleo on 7 colors. Best action was over 100' - 125' from Seneca Point to just south of Black Point. Pete had a great fighting rainbow on 7 colors with and inline planer and Kurt and Pete did a great job releasing the board and Pete kept that bow buttoned all the way to the net. Pete released that beauty boat side to fight another day. Some of the fish we released went belly up but kicked down after we watched them and circled back to pick them up just in case. Again an excellent day and we had so much fun. Thanks guys for great time.
  5. nice fishing Brett, we were in that same area today, Sunday, report to follow
  6. Wondering if the marina gas at ports along Lake Ontario provide ethanol free gas? Reason I ask is because Smith Boys and German Bros. marinas on Canandaigua Lake sell ethanol free gas. Last Sunday at Smith Boys it was 4.65 a gallon.
  7. that's a fantastic fish congratulations
  8. awesome story and report, that first pic with Alex holding that king is priceless,
  9. Nice fishing Paul, good numbers for ya out there! Now to PM a question
  10. 33canuck and I ran the 6 rod spread taking full advantage of the 3 rod rule. I am glad we had the full program going since 1 out 6 rods took our only 2 fish. I usually don't get many bites on spoons but the old trusty blue and silver lil cleo brought a nice 10 lb 31" lake trout on board with a rigger parked at 50'. It also took a 13" laker ( I guess measured so I can log my catch for DEC diary) and gently released that fish back behind the boat. The usual suspects were all out there but didn't take a hit. We trolled White Rock to Whiskey Point and across to Cook Point south past Long Point. We saw a woman attempting to swim the width of the lake starting at Whiskey Point. She was escorted by two kayaks and a power boat. We saw her again as we were pulling lines on the west side north of Cook Point near the shamrock boathouse. The wind was blowing pretty good and she must have swam an extra mile at least due to the wind and current blowing north and she still had not made it to the west shore.
  11. Hey Tom, I usually catch the majority of my fish the on the usual suspects that I mentioned, I recalled something after I wrote the report however. We couldn't get a good screen going with all the turbulence at the stern into the waves even tuning sonar, so I actually used Moor Sub Troll to locate temps and then set other riggers. As mentioned though temp was high even down 50'. Didn't get bit on shark/probe rigger that day. The shark definitely brings them into the spread though. I prepped the crew for the docking procedure, luckily I don't have neighbor in my dock, so we ended up bumping the west dock and then pushing her and pulling her dock lines to settle her in snugly. Kurt, 33canuck, AKA FLXswimmer, hopped off the boat onto the dock as the stern slipped in but then took a dip when he couldn't hold the boat anymore with hook.
  12. hey huntin trout, the wind started NE blowing 4' waves into the marina, at whiskey wind was N to NW building the waves into the south, the north end was calm by south end standards, would have been good windsurfing, high winds and minimal waves to at least Tichenor Point probably
  13. If I remember correctly the third rod rule is for Lake Ontario only, but I may stand corrected. ok I found it, I strand corrected, (2) one person may operate not more than two lines, with or without rod, EXCEPT THAT ONE PERSON MAY OPERATE UP TO THREE LINES IN FRESHWATER;
  14. We got to south end marina at 6:05 am and the boats were all really rocking. My trusty mate canuck33 joined me and my brother in law and his son. As we were rigging the boat, a small boat was motoring back to the launch. I figured they had gone out in the dark but as day was breaking they saw what they were up against and bagged it. I really wanted to get out figuring the hardest part would be docking. So we got out to the drop off, setting up into the wind. We ran 3 riggers with spoons initially changing colors as we went, 2 diver rods with pro troll 8" white, chrome/ crushglow and ATOMIK Mirage fly and Church Revelator green chrome/ disco with ATOMIK hammer fly. The 300 copper was down the chute pulling that new favorite Spin Dr glow double/ crushglow with ATOMIK Mirage fly. Once the copper fired with a small keeper laker for my bro inlaw, I switched a couple riggers to similar paddles. We had a double on with copper and a diver but Kurt dropped one, and my bro in law dropped one on rigger fish hitting the Spin Dr green dot with Hammer fly. Funny thing with that spin dr drop is the spinnie had made a triangle out the fly leader, and the fish popped off behind the boat a ways. Same thing happened to Kurt last year in heavy following seas on copper rod. I now have figured the fish must be swimming toward the boat using the current and then turns or if it's a laker it rolls and causes the spinnie to swim around the leader. Considering the weather I was in a tshirt most of the time, the waves were pretty intense at times, we took at least a half a dozen waves over the bow with water going over the windshield and the canvas top. The wind certainly was gusty pushing at least steady 2'-4' rollers with the occasional 6'-8' wave. We picked fish trolling into the waves and with them. We worked both east and west sides from White Rock to Whiskey Point and Cook Point to Coy Point. We fished from 6:30 to 11:00 going 5 for 7 getting 3 lakers 19" and one laker 28 1/2 " that went 7 1/2 lbs. and a nice rainbow 24" and 6 lbs. The bow had alot of very small baitfish in stomach contents if you are looking for spoon sizes but I think the attractor fly combos work better for me. With the waves 2.0-2.75 downspeed at idle, into the waves down speed was 1.5 mph to 3 mph depending on down currents which were noticeable to me for the first time this year. At times down temp was 72 * 50' down. I think fish were out of temp due to all the warm water stacking up against the drop off. Riggers at 52, 61, 75 all took fish, wires were out 145' and 165'. Big laker came on copper rod and the big bow came on diver rod at 145' with the Revelator. Click the youtube link to watch video of the waves:
  15. Rick, you are the man when it comes to putting clients on fish, and you have fun doing it! The picture with 5 big guys across the cockpit of your boat holding big kings with your logo at the step is marketing genius!!
  16. 15 lb Canandaigua Lake Trout off 300' copper Spin Dr Glow Crushglow/Crushglow ATOMIK Mirage Fly
  17. August 15, 2011 Monday morning 8/15 we were met with heavy clouds, after Sunday's storm and the full moon the fish were very inactive from 6:30 - 11:30 we fished the white rock area to Whiskey Point anywhere from 100-220 fow. There were marks everywhere swimming in the riggers, 35'-70' but no action. I tried very hard running 8 rod spread of 3 wire divers, 300' copper, and 4 rigger rods. We got one lake trout 14" on the Pro Troll 8" white crush glow/chrome and mirage fly off the probe rigger running the shark. A very bold little fish destined to be fruitful quarry in years to come. August 18, 2011 Thursday morning I set the boat up before my dad, brother and nephew arrived hoping for an even earlier start. We were set up at 6:00 am running 3 riggers strictly with spoons, I had some old hardware I found and wanted to give it a try. Some Sutton spoons mixed in with other no name spoons, running through the colors, hammered, silver, 50/50, nada. The weather was much nicer than Monday but it made no difference. These fish had lockjaw, I worked in 2 wire divers with spoons, working the 65-100 fow near the drop off up to Walton Point. We just could not get these fish to go so I said we had to move. We pulled the rods and ran down to Point Rochester setting up in 180 fow. 300' copper and 3 riggers, 2 wire divers, and 7 color lead core on an inline board. The weeds that plagued us near the drop off were non existent in this new clean water. I had my favorite colors out for attractors, but I had to switch the rigger flashers until we got a hit on the probe rigger again, running an 11" Hot Spot Green Italian with a glow squid, at 57' down. Trever did a great job reeling in the fish as far as he could until he asked for my help to finish the job. We continued moving in and out from 140' - 240' when the copper rod fired. I asked my brother to clear the center rigger while dad steered the boat. Trever was ready to help with the billy club, and when the fish hit the net my brother was hoisting up the net over the transom as the net pole is bending under the strain of the fish. My brother is in awe looking at how big the fish is and I am stunned. We had worked so hard and finally the pay off. The fish tipped the Rapala scale at 15 lbs. My best on Canandaigua so far. The move was a good idea, the inactive fish and the weeds in the first area we fished were still there, but we were over active fish even if we only picked up two for the box. We did land one more small 14" laker on the pro troll white chrome/ glow with a mirage fly on the rigger at 61' down. August 19, 2011 Friday morning we started a little later since the bite seemed to be better later anyway. We ran to Menteth Point and fished to Point Rochester. We fished 6:30 to 10:30 landing one 14" brown trout on a Sutton 22 run off the 7 color lead core on an inline board. And the wire diver set at 145' running my favorite pro troll echip 8" flasher white chrome/crush glow with the ATOMIK Mirage fly was the hot set up again picking up an 8 1/2 lb. lake trout. We had good times despite the tough fishing. We stayed at a cottage for the week, inside the cottage there was a cool old map of Canandaigua Lake. I snapped a few pictures hoping they would come out okay. I think they look good and the map was dated 1937, the depth markings are accurate even showing the deep hole of 274'. 18. Yes I was out with 33canuck from the north end Saturday morning. Hoping to get out as many times as I can this week. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  19. early bite is best on Canandaigua, glad you got into when you did, we trolled south from dropoff to Wegman's cove only picking up one on diver rod livewire spinnie and mirage fly, we did drop one on a silver and blue Danny Special on our 7 color leadcore
  20. way to go Paul, I see you moved the tite locs to your rod holder board, gotta be better for the wire rods, we took a good shot on 7 color with an inline today but dropped him
  21. hmm, I walked those docks this morning they are way longer than 20'
  22. I use the Scotty retriever for my probe rigger, no problems, instead of the cannon pulley style it is more like a short piece of 3/4 diameter plastic pipe for lack of a better comparison
  23. I saw an article in the Daily Messenger announcing the closure of the north end boat launch the day after Labor Day. The ramps will be demolished and rebuilt with the closure until January 1, 2012.
  24. Hey Tom, nice fishing, that white on white attractor combo is my go to with the weather conditions in the picture.
  25. sounds good, I have to start leaving the skin on my fish and marinate longer, thanks woody
