  3. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Brown How'nd ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/17 Time on Water:6:00 am - 1:00 pm Weather/Temp: sunny, hot Wind Speed/Direction: nw Waves: 1-3 Surface Temp: 74 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 18 Total Boated:15 Species Breakdown:kings, steelhead Hot Lure: NBK, Gator spoons, Trolling Speed: 1.5- 2.5 Down Speed: 1.5 -2.5 Boat Depth: 120-160 Lure Depth: riggers 38', 48', divers out 113'-210' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Great reports from Lake Ontario left me with a big wish to fish the salmon on the big lake before putting the boat on Canandaigua Lake for the rest of the summer. After having a baby 2 months ago this would be the first trip of the year for me on my boat. Kurt and Jimmie were stoked and our expectations were far exceeded by the quality of the fish and the numbers of fish caught. We selected Sandy Creek for launching hoping to avoid the crowds at Rochester launches. We shot out to 125 fow and started setting lines, 4 wire divers, and two riggers running at 38' and 48'. Riggers were set with a DW SS Gator and Stinger NBK, wires were Revelator green chrome with Atomik Hammer, Pro troll Echip white crush glow/chrome Atomik Mirage, 42 second Spin Dr Atomik Green Crinkle. Divers were set out 118', 123', 160', 175'. Knowing the diver bite would be hot, we didn't run copper down the chute and chose to run the 4 wire divers. First fish popped the wire with the Pro Troll echip at 118', nice steelie, but when the first rigger fired at 38' with a screamer on we were in for a great time. I was fighting the fish as he was ripping line, out he'd go, back in reel, reel, reel, reel, when out to the starboard side he goes out and around the wires, and then snap. NOOOOO! Now I'm mad I'm running the 4 wires, so we reel one in on each side, but it didn't matter what we had out, divers or riggers, the bite was hot so was the weather. Every rod took fish, revelator attractor/ hammer fly was hot so was the Stinger NBK on the probe rigger running the Shark weight. After breaking a rod trying setting a slider, I reached for a extra rigger rod to put the NBK spoon on and get her back in the water. I thought to myself, do I want to put this hot spoon on the this reel with 15 lb test I use on Canandaigua lake? Sure, no problem, get it wet and I will take the 30 lb test reel from the broken rod and rerig it while the spoon is running. Not a good idea... Wham, screamer on the shark rigger, NBK's got em ripping line again, off he goes with that little reel from Cabelas screaming, Tuna Tom's handy work put to the test, I fight the fish and the reel has no problem, it was the line that gave me fits as I broke off another losing the NBK. Kurt wondered why I had 2 nets, he found out this trip. As we were netting a king, the net missed the fish the but the tournament tie stuck to the net, I yelled SECOND NET!, out comes net # 2 and saved the day to bring a big boy into the boat. After netting another fish the extension pole on the net wasn't pinned to the handle, and out slipped the basket and short handle of the net, I yelled SECOND NET! this time second net netted a king and the net. We fished from 6:00 - 1:00 and had fast action early, boating 6 fish before 7:30, and kept getting into fish up until 12:45, I couldn't believe the bite was still on at 12:30 pm. We ended up 15 for 18, kept a few for the smoker, we did at least 5 shaker kings, and the rest were good size kings and 3 steelies, the biggest king was 17.8 lbs. ====================
  4. Wow, Jason is your Mate? No wonder you guys hammer the fish, you 2 are always posting excellent reports, great report, I like the overhead shot with the spread, all the rods, and the youngster in bare feet, good times!
  5. Way to go Captain Paul, those jigs are hot for you when the trolling bite turns off.
  6. Hey Kurt I had fun and we fished Sunday 7/10, here's a shot of the 4 boards with our 450' copper, (2) 7 color leadcores, and (1) 3 color leadcore. W.W.IV. we were on the east side from just south of the white rock, near the willows, 100'-135' of water to Whiskey Point. We did mark fish out over 230' on our turns, but active fish were in the 100'- 145' of water. The last wire hit was at 10:45 am at Whiskey and that feisty fish was dropped, not bad in my book for that late in the morning.
  7. 20 lb Power Pro vs. 100 lb sailboat Power Pro wins!! we saw him pull that keel up and out popped the planer board too funny, too bad you can hardly see the little sailboat in the picture.
  8. Way to go Tom, sounds like a good day, lil cleos huh? I gotta few of those... thanks for the report
  9. time to break out the black spray paint on my green and purple R & R s thanks for posting,
  10. nice fishing Brett and good times with the family, that's whopper a brownie congrats
  11. Huntin trout took me and my niece and nephews out from the south end with some dark clouds looming over the Italy Hill around 6:00 pm. We set up around 100' on the west side just in case, with 2 wires and 2 riggers, 350' copper and a 7 color leadcore on an inline planer. Riggers were run from 30'-110', Wire divers were run from around 120' to 367' with best action just at dusk on wires at 121' and 123', and right as we set up after the drop off at 30' rigger and 150' diver. The kids had a blast and they learned by watching the others. We went 3 for 5 dropping a diver fish on the reel, and a another diver at the back of the boat. We made up for it though at dusk with Mckaela bringing in the 8 1/2 lb fish of the the diver set up with that revelator with a hammer and Logan doubled up with a 6 1/2 lb fish on the 42nd spin dr and a mirage. Just as Captain Tom predicted best bite just at dark.
  12. We ran 3 and 7, then 7 and 7 color cores off inline boards with sticks and spoons, even tried a 5" snoopy revelator and atomik crinkle mirage fly on the 7 color too. Diver rods were out 150' and 210', the 150' with a purple walker deeper diver and green revelator with crinkle mirage fly took a 5 lb fish and the copper set up took a 4 lb and 6 lb fish. I cleaned the trout as soon as we got to the house and we had a fish fry with filets to spare. Kurt is holding the green dot spinnie, but you can't see the dots.
  13. The senate and assembly are in session next week 6/13-6/17 and Monday 6/20 then I would expect a recess for the summer.
  14. Hi Brett, congratulations on your 2nd place rainbow. I was only out on Sunday, Paul told me you were calling me Saturday, I heard laker taker hailed many times, new baby at home has limited my outings. Boat is still dry docked waiting on canvas repairs shop.
  15. cool home made rig, what pound test is leader?
  16. Fished with Paul aka Chuck527, Sunday morning was cloudy surface temp around 61, we fished an array of leadcores off of inlines, 3, 5, 6, 7 colors, spoons and sticks were tried, Suttons 44 taking 2 bows off Paul's 6 color was a good set up, bows were 2-3 lbs, released safely. We had riggers running spin drs and flies that took 2 lake trout, one off of a white crush glow spin dr and blue fly, the other off of a gator spinnie. Lakers were 4 and 5 lbs, I had fun running one side of the boat while Paul ran the other side. I tried all my fave spoons off the rigger, then I had to ask for a spin dr and fly cuz my side of the boat was kind of skunky smelling until I went through Paul's flasher and fly boxes. The rigger was down 97' when I finally washed that skunky smell off with some fish blood. I was able to run 3 and 7 colors on the starboard side off online planer boards without tangle, ran stacked rigger rods with spoons and even tried out and down with #0 black dipsy and spoon out 70' then stacked 25' above the ball, no hits but it was fun to experiment. We jigged north of Hawkes Point and Vine Valley after trolling then tried jigging in the north end out from dragon wall. Jigs were quiet for the crew but Paul did get 2 hits before we called it a day.
  17. The Revelator and Hammer Fly is a flasher fly rig used while trolling with dipsies, downriggers, or copper. Unless your boat is rigged for trolling you would be best suited for jigging for lakers. Using your sonar to locate fish then vertical jig with heavy jigs 3/4 oz to 1 1/2 oz tipped with flukes or other plastics, using braid instead of mono ensures better hookups. Without an electric trolling motor to hold steady over fish calm days or early mornings will be best.
  18. Hey Mark if you want to sell your copper setup let me know, I can tell you this "copper swims over nothing" if you are running the copper down the chute and have braid on your diver rods instead of wire your dive curve maybe off, especially if dipsies are on 2-3 setting even out 200-270. In the pic it looks like spoon was on copper, I don't like spoons on copper because those mi stingers are light and have a tendency to be harder to deploy, with spoons you must let copper out really slow and let it settle. I would put either of those flasher fly rigs on your copper, it will deploy easier, the swimming of the flasher plus its weight will improve the settling of the copper line behind the boat. Also be careful on turns, that dipsy probably hung up the copper when that diver rod was on the inside of a turn, keep the copper on board for days when the riggers are quiet and the flasher fly presentations on the diver rods are working then just run the same colors on the copper down the chute.
